The Daughters of Merlin

Chapter 34: Epilogue

Adrian and Viktor waited til Viktor had turned eighteen, finishing his studies before finally getting married. Zana had volunteered to officiate it, more than proud to do so for her favorite nephew.

Laria was three years old, the same age that her aunt of the same name had been when she died, though Grace knew that her granddaughter would not suffer the same fate. Laria was the flower girl, dressed in a white gown and looking so much like her aunt that it brought the Queen to tears.

Laria was very very close to her grandmother, and was rarely ever not by her side. Laria loved her Grammy very much and Grace loved her even more.

“Grammy, why are you crying?” Laria asked as she walked over to her Grandmother, Grace lifting the toddler up and onto her lap.

“Because I’m happy.” Grace replied, wiping away her tears with one hand.

“You cry when you are happy?” Laria slightly tilted her head to the side as she furrowed her brows, which looked kind of funny but surely adorable on the young girl’s face.

“Sometimes. Here, let’s go check up on Uncle Viktor.” Grace said, balancing the small girl on her hip as the Queen stood up.

“Untle Vitor!” Laria cheered, causing Grace to laugh.

Zana, Valia, Grace, and Virgil lived the rest of their lives in peace and happiness. They watched as the twins grew up, embracing their roles. Tiberius became King of Camelot after Virgil stepped down when he turned fifty. Adrian also took over Zana’s role of being Camelot’s resident mage. Adrian chose to live in the palace however alongside his brother, enabling his parents and aunts to spend the rest of their lives in the cottage in the woods. Grace lived to see Laria grow up into a gorgeous young woman, saw her get married and have children of her own. Laria also inherited Grace’s magic, it having skipped over Tiberius.

Zana and Valia never officially married each other, for Zana feared that making it official might cause Valia to become a target to Zana’s enemies. Valia didn’t really mind not being married though as Zana stayed true to her Potion master as did Valia stay true to Zana.

By all accounts, Grace, Virgil, and Zana agreed that their life had not been easy. But they also agreed that, in the end, it had all been worth it.

The four all passed away peacefully in their sleep, all in the same night.
