The Darwin Chronicles, Book One: The Mountain Ranges
Chapter 28
Amy avoided Emmett for the next few days. She seemed to know that he felt sorry for her, although he tried to hide it. He watched her read a book as they walked. At one point she quickly tore out a page, crumbled it, and tossed it to the side. He sneakily picked it up.
At night he read the torn page, memorizing its contents. He knew how to heal her. It would be risky. It would be dangerous. But he had to try.
