Chapter 166
Dominic
"What are you talking about?" Everyone says to my father-in-law in unison.
"I unknowingly placed a burden on my daughter when I told her how this marriage was going to save my dying company. She only wanted what was best for me so she could make me happy. That's why she agreed to all those conditions. I should be blamed for this as well." My father suddenly chuckles. "Oh, please. Enough with that. Why would we blame-"
"Ah!" Vanessa places a hand on her stomach and everyone goes silent in panic.
Letting go of my mother, I immediately rush to Vanessa as I look down at her stomach. "Hey, what's wrong?"
She twists her face in discomfort. "I'm fine."
"Are you sure?" Everyone asks with concern in unison and she chuckles.
"I'm really fine. It's nothing to worry about."
"I hope so because I can't wait to hold my grandchild!" My mother wipes her tears.
"I was just about to say that," my father-in-law chuckles with a cough.
"I think you need some food," my mother says to her.
As Sophie makes a few meal suggestions, Jake opposes her and they begin to banter.
My lips curve into a smile as I wonder when everything will be completely back to normal. I miss the relationship that I had with them even though it's only been a few days.
Dinner is served and it's a little awkward as I'm aware that I'm not yet fully forgiven.
Even making small talk with everyone is not the same as before.
My mother seems to give in a few times but she withdraws from it a few seconds later, as if she's conflicted, but that's okay. I can still live with that for now.

Vanessa
As I take off my earrings while standing in front of the mirror, I can't stop thinking about my father wanting to take part of the blame for everything that happened.
It makes me smile too when I remember how his words were what led to my father-in-law loosening up just a little bit. At the dining table, he barely spoke but the few times he did, it was still evident that he wouldn't be mad forever.
As I think about my mother-in-law's conflicted actions towards me when she gave me some food but still wouldn't fully speak to me the way she does, it makes me giggle.
The door opens and I spot Dominic, who comes straight to me while looking at my figure from the back in my short nightgown.
"I just spoke to Frank. He has plans with Mia tonight."
"Really? She didn't tell me anything." I furrow my eyebrows.
"They made those plans just now."
"I see."
As a short silence falls between us, he comes closer and wraps his arms around me from behind and kisses my cheek, the warm sensation of his lips making me close my eyes for a second.
"I still can't believe everyone listened to you earlier and loosened up," he says, making me open my eyes and we make eye contact in the mirror.
"I guess I just have that effect on people."
"The same way you have an effect
on me. Thank you for speaking up. I wasn't going to force you into it and I was ready to shoulder all the blame alone The one who will take a i really come around is my
long
father but that's okay. I know I deserve this."
"I know I'm suddenly changing the subject but I'm curious. How did it go with Carmella?"
"You mean Angela."
"Well, she's still Carmella to me." I roll my eyes.
He chuckles. "You should've seen her face when things didn't go her way. She thought she would blackmail me by exposing the truth."
"I definitely would've loved to see her
face but with the state that I'm in it's not right that I'm there. Who knows what would've done to her? I don't need that kind of stress on my body."
"You're right about that. Speaking of your body..." He trails off, nibbling on my ear while pressing his hard cock against my ass.
"Yeah?" I moan softly, our eyes lustfully locked on each other in the mirror.
"The past few days have been a bit rough with everyone, but I promise I'll be gentle with you."
My lips curve into a smile and he catches me.
"It seems like I'm not the only one who wants this." He licks his lips.
Embarrassed, close my eyes but he places his hand at the bottom of my chin to make me face him and we break into a passionate kiss. His movergents are slow and precise, making me melt in his arms and as his breathing gets heavier, so does mine.
After passionately making love while I'm bent over, he runs us a bath and I rest my back against his chest as he runs his fingers through my wet hair.
"Babe, I hope I didn't hurt you," he says with concern.
"Not at all. Hey, there's something I need to ask you. Have you been in touch with Patrick? Has he gone to see Carmella?"
