The Crown Of Fire - Book 1 of The Stormrider Chronicles

Chapter Alex XII

They all waited for Seraphina to arrive. She’d brought an entire platoon with her. She must’ve thought that they’d stoop to her level and ambush her. As laughable as that was.

But she was everything Eddie said and more, in terms of appearance. She really was beautiful. And Alex could see how she could be related to Aria.

Omdrus stood just outside of his tent, while the otherworlders and the earthborn stood not too far away from him, with all the other soldiers. Everyone was anxious to see what she wanted. Though, he was pretty sure that Aria already knew.

The mage who called herself Queen stopped not too far away from them, she stared at the wolf, her focus was solely on Omdrus. She paid no mind to Octavia, Eddie, Alex, and Aria.

“I want what’s mine, wolf,” she spat. “A traitor, and my own blood.”

“Yes, you want, Seraphina,” Omdrus spoke calmly. “But you do not need them.”

Seraphina fumed. “By all rights, by the laws that hold this very world together, the otherworlder Edward is a traitor, and it is as the law states, my responsibility to be rid of him. And the Earthborn, Aria Stormrider is of mine own blood, and therefore she is mine to claim.”

“I was there when the laws were written,” the wolf told her. “Aria’s blood belongs to her alone, and therefore, she cannot be taken.”

Alex never noticed it. But Aria had grabbed her bow. And she’d already nocked an arrow and drew. The arrow that she let fly landed in a post next to Seraphina’s head.

“If you want my blood,” Aria stated firmly. “You will have to take it on the battlefield. And if you want to take the boy, you’ll have to kill my soul.”

When Seraphina’s guards unsheathed their weapons, Alex unsheathed his sword. But this only amused the witch.

“Do you think that you can stop this?” she questioned. “Little sister, your army is small compared to mine. Your creatures, they’re useless.” she turned her head to Alex. “And this boy. I’ve been told that he’s been named Alexander. ‘Defending men’, what an awful joke. Soon enough, you’ll be killing your men with this senseless war.”

“Put your sword away, Alexander,” Aria told him. “She’s not worth the blood on your blade.” she paused. “And she’s not yours to execute.”

“And what are you going to do, Aria?” Seraphina questioned. “Is it your plan to kill me and steal my throne? Because somehow you’re better?” Seraphina inched herself closer to Aria. “We both know that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” she paused as she glanced around the smaller girl. “Especially with a past like yours.”

The flame of anger ignited behind Aria’s eyes. She was ready to fight.

“Enough!” Omdrus boomed. “Seraphina, if you would, I would like to speak with you in private.”

Seraphina cast one look around the prophesized ones before following the great wolf into his tent.

One thing was for certain. He knew it in his heart.

Whatever Aria’s past was, she showed no signs of repeating past mistakes.

If no one else would do it, she would.

Aria Stormrider would be the one to kill Seraphina, the false queen.
