The Crest

Chapter 43: Mysterious Message

"The puma is still hanging around FORC." Fernando said.

"Is it bothering anyone?" Danielle asked.

"Nope, it's just lounging around in the back part of the nursery, near a water tank. The empaths keep feeding it. They've kind of adopted it."

"Okay, let it be, a panther is the least of our worries."

"Sure thing. They've even named it. They call it 'Paws.'"

"Well it looks like FORC has a mascot."

"A dangerous mascot. By the way, we received a message from Crefor reconnaissance,” Fernando said.

“What do they want this time?” Danielle inquired.

“Nothing.”

“Well, that’s a change.”

“They gave us a message translated from Morse Code. They think we might know something about it.”

Danielle paused; she remembered her dream the night before. Things were getting weird.

"Crefor doesn’t know where it came from.” Fernando noted.

“It either came from the enemy, or it came from our own shortwave civilian radio operators, are they that senseless?” she said, back to her confrontational self.

“The Crefor story is intriguing.”

“How so?”

“Here is the message they gave us. It says Timothy. It keeps repeating the word, Timothy.”

“Timothy? And who sent it?”

“Well, they couldn’t find out who sent it. They said it couldn’t be sent from too far away. Shortwave AM radio can travel up to 80 miles in a line-of-sight direct fashion.”

“What are you suggesting?”

“I’m suggesting that something, possibly a tree interfered with a short-wave radio frequency.”

“How can that be, you said plants produce in infrasonic, ultrasonic and audible, and now you’re talking radio?”

“No, I’m not. We don’t know if plants can pick up or give off radio frequencies. That’s a novel idea for us,” Karl said to her.

“Humans can hear from 20 Hz up to 20 kHz so it is not out of our range to hear whatever made this Morse Code.”

“It was faint, they picked it up on recorder in the forest.”

“Could be some lost human, could be an empath, could be a trap.”

“Perhaps, but it might be something we can consider, especially if they pick up other random Morse Codes. The word Timothy is too weird though.”

“Timothy, what do you think it means, they’re looking for a person named Timothy?”

“No clue.”

“Let me know if you get more messages from Crefor but right now we don’t have time for this speculation.”

They heard bombing on the Crest. An attack was taking place. The group went to see where it was coming from.
