The Chronicles of Moon

Chapter 71

Just like Alice

Moon heads up to go and change, and while she knows she should be paying more attention to where she is going, she can’t help but be distracted.

Kiara, Bella wasn’t with the other pups was she? Why would she lie about that? Moon ponders as she walks slowly up the last flight of stairs.

Maybe she just didn’t want Colin to know that the others don’t play with her. You already noticed that she always plays on her own. I think she didn’t want to make you or Colin worry. I don’t think she has many friends. Kiara sounds sad, and it only makes Moon feel worse.

Moon had already thought of that. She noticed that none of the other pups greeted, Bella when they dropped her off at school, and while there are always other pups playing around the packhouse, Bella plays alone.

We will have to do something about that. Bella should have friends. Moon says firmly, not wanting to see the girl suffer any more than she already has. Kiara’s mood also seems to lift at the idea, and they continue to the apartment.

I can’t wait to change. I can’t believe Alexis ruined my dress. Moon huffs, irritated again.

I can believe it; we need to find Rachel. If Alexis did this, then Rachel will be planning something as well. Moon nods in agreement, but when she walks through the apartment door, her vision goes dark for only a moment. She shakes her head, blinking to find she is standing alone in the woods.

What the hell is this? Moon stares open mouth and wide-eyed. How did we get here? She tries to reach Colin through the link, but she can’t, now she is panicking.

“Why hello, Moon, isn’t it?” the low deep voice sounds charming and kind, but there is also the hint of something dark lurking in it. “I thought you would never get here. I have been waiting such a long time to meet you.”

Moon turns, looking for the owner of the voice, but she can’t see him anywhere.

“Who’s there? What is this?” She is doing her best to hide her nerves, but she is genuinely panicked now, she can’t shift, and Kiara is quiet in her mind.

“This is nothing more than a dream. But my favor will be repaid after this.” The man that steps out from behind the trees is shorter than Moon thought he would be, his thick brown hair tied back in a ponytail at his neck. He’s young and handsome, but something about him just seems off, and Moon can’t figure it out until a sudden image from one of Gramp’s books flashes in her mind.

“Pan” She all but whispers the name, but the quark of his lip confirms it.

“Well, I must run though I wish I could stay and play as well. We could have lots of fun, but I have other obligations.” He turns to leave smirking to himself.

“Wait!” Moon shouts, and when he actually turns, she’s a little shocked. She didn’t really have anything else to say. She’s just trying to buy some time and figure out what the hell is happening.

He looks at her expectantly, waiting for her to continue saying something, his eyebrows raised in curiosity.

“I’m in a dream? So that means I’m really still up in my apartment? Who did you owe a favor to? I mean, you are the god Pan. Who could you possibly owe anything to?” She tries her best to play into his vanity, which seems to be working.

“Well, you are more clever than I thought you would be. You even recognized me. Though any fool could see that I am no mere mortal creature. And no, you are not in your little apartment anymore. You are here. All of you is here with me. I didn’t just take your mind. You will find out soon enough about who I owed a favor to. I really must run, but I do hope you make it out alive you are an interesting creature. I think I would like to visit you again.”

Oh great, that is the last thing I need. Not to mention he is completely creeping me out by looking at me like that. Moon thinks to herself and waits for Kiara to agree, but she is still silent.

“What did you do to my wolf?” Moon yells out again when he turns to go.

“Oh, she is just napping. She should wake up as soon as I’m gone. I don’t care what happens after I’m gone. Still, I couldn’t have you doing anything crazy like attacking me as that crazy animal, now could I? until next time.” He waves and seems to vanish, leaving Moon truly alone in the woods now, and she starts walking, everything feeling strange and surreal.

“Now I know how Alice must have felt in wonderland.” Moon sighs.

She wanders a bit through the trees, and Kiara is indeed back in her mind, but Moon still can’t link Colin.

What the hell is going on, and who brought me here and why? Moon is frustrated and has no intention of just standing around waiting to find out. She needs to find the way back home.

***

Colin can’t reach Moon, and panic doesn’t even begin to describe the terror he feels running up to their apartment. He can still smell her scent, but she isn’t anywhere to be found.

“MOON!” he shouts as he searches the apartment, but there is no answer. He’s about to turn to leave when he the strange man standing at the door of the apartment stops him in his tracks.

“What would she see in you? I will never understand.” The man leans on the door looking at Colin strangely.

“Who the fuck are you, and where is Moon?” Colin growls, about to charge the man.

“My, don’t we have a temper? She is fine for the moment better off than you are. I wouldn’t recommend taking your anger out on me. I’m simply repaying a debt. I also only wanted to get a look at you. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement.” The man smirks.

“Tell me where she is, or I’ll rip your limbs off,” Colin growls back.

“Oh, I wouldn’t recommend that, and you are about to have bigger problems.” The man says coolly back, looking far too smug. Colin is growling and vibrating in anger as Farrell pushes forward.

“Such a temper.” The man sighs.

Colin, we have a problem. Wolves are attacking the west border and the North. Chris links him, and when Colin looks at the door, the man is gone.

What in the actual fuck is going on here? He takes off outside, linking the pack to get ready for the attack. Everyone scattering. The elderly and pups are quickly taken inside to a safe room while warriors spring into action. They had been prepared for this, but Colin was not prepared for Moon to just vanish without a trace. His head is a mess trying to focus on all the voices of warriors linking him, and the only thing he can focus on is where she could be.

Get your head on straight we won’t be able to find her if we get killed, jackass. Farrell growls.

Since when are you the calm and logical one of us? Colin rages, still trying to get his emotions in check.

Well, one of us needs to be, so stop being an ass and get it together. We will find her. Farrell sounds sure of himself, and Colin remembers that Selene told Colin to trust Farrell. They need to be focused for everyone’s sake now. Only if they had paid a little more attention. They would have seen Sam following the warriors, determined to help his father and his pack this time, and Bella following after Sam.
