The Chronicles of Moon

Chapter 47

Bring On the Day

Colin learned little from Chris. There was still nothing to report. They are questioning all of Jamie’s friends, but they are coming up with little to go on. Colin is frustrated, and it seems they are just being hit with one problem after another.

“Penny, for your thoughts,” Moon says, watching Colin. He had started pacing the room as he thought.

“Is Bells asleep now?” He asks, trying to hide his frustration.

“Yep. Now tell me did Chris find anything?” Moon continues.

“No,” Colin growls.

Moon sighs and looks tired. She was tired at dinner, but now she is exhausted. “I’m sure something will turn up.” Moon tries to reassure Colin.

“I hope so. It just seems we have more problems than answers at the moment, and it isn’t sitting well with me.” Colin says.

Moon yawns and Colin smiles at her. “Looks like you need to be tucked in now. How are you feeling? Today has become more than I intended for your first day here.”

“It has been a day, and I am tired. Kiara is fading again, and I can only hear her a little now.” Moon is clearly worried, and Colin waste no time wrapping his arms around her.

“We will figure that out, too,” Colin assures her. “What book did you read, Bells, anyway?”

“Oh, it’s a book gramps always read to me. The story of the moon goddess.” Moon shrugs and giggles. “I guess he was a little obsessed.” Moon yawns again.

“Well, you need to go to bed now too.” Colin playfully orders. Walking her to her own room, Moon isn’t feeling so sure about it.

“I will expect you for breakfast, so if you were planning on taking off exploring, I would feel better if you didn’t do that for the time being. For obvious reasons.” Colin looks at her seriously, and Moon wonders if he read her mind.

“Fine, I will not go anywhere, and yes, breakfast would be nice.” Moon kisses him quickly and darts into her room. She still likes teasing him, and he doesn’t disappoint her when he growls at the door, making her giggle again.

Moon changes into pajama shorts and a tee shirt that is too big for her. She slips into bed and lies there, trying to hear Kiara. What she hears and feels from her wolf only reflects what Moon is feeling. They hate being in this room alone. After twenty minutes, Moon huffs and throws off the covers.

She tiptoes out of her room and back into the suite. She is trying to be quiet as she walks into Colin’s room. Sneaking up on a wolf is nearly impossible. Colin is lying in his giant bed; the room only has the moonlight coming in from the window.

“Can’t sleep?” Colin’s voice is low and the only sound in the dark room. Moon feels her heart flutter. She doesn’t even answer him, and he pulls the covers back for her. “I promise to be a perfect gentleman.”

Moon smiles, she’s not sure she wants him to be a perfect gentleman, but she is tired and misses having him close to her. She moves to the bed and slips into the covers with him. He instantly pulls her close and cuddles himself around her.

“I hated that you left, and I was never going to be able to sleep.” He murmurs in her ear. Kiara is humming in Moon’s mind; everything about this feels right and like home. This is where she belongs, and she knows it. She can feel Kiara growing just a little bit stronger. Moon cuddles a little closer to him, and soon her eyes grow heavy as sleep finally comes.

Colin lies awake for a long time, holding Moon, his mind still racing with everything that has happened. He just wants to keep them safe. He can’t lose Moon or Bella. He never felt like he was a part of his family, and this is precious to him.

We won’t lose them, not on my watch. Farrell chimes into Colin’s thoughts.

I know, Farrell, but Caleb won’t stop. He’ll want Moon, and so Will Maddox.

How about you just stop worrying for one moment and enjoy the fact that we have a family and our mate is curled up next to us.

Colin huffs, a little amused that Farrell can see past all the problems and enjoy what is right in front of them. Colin closes his eyes and nuzzles his face into the warmth of Moon’s neck and hair.

Mine. Farrell purrs as they both drift off to sleep.

The morning comes all too soon, and Moon is the first one awake as usual. She manages to shift enough to look at the clock on the nightstand, and Colin groans.

“It’s too early.” His voice is low and husky with sleepiness.

“Well, it’s not that early; it’s nearly 5:30.” Moon teases.

“That is too early.” Colin snuggles her close to him, refusing to open his eyes. Moon laughs and kisses his neck.

“Don’t start doing that.” He growls low in her ear, making her shiver and giggle even more.

“Well, I’m getting up,” Moon says, trying to wiggle out of his arms, and he holds her tighter.

“No,” he mutters.

“Well, aren’t we bossy in the morning?” Moon playfully huffs.

“You have no idea.” He smirks.

The giggle at the door has him burying his face into Moon’s hair, “Great, you are both morning people aren’t you?”

“Come on, let me go, and you promised breakfast.” Moon pushes on him as Bella giggles more.

“I did?” Colin pretends not to remember.

“I like pancakes,” Bella says, climbing up on the foot of the bed and starting to bounce.

“Okay, you win. I’m up.” Colin says, letting Moon go. As soon as Moon starts to get up, Colin sits up, grabs Bella, and tickles her, making her squeal.

“You want pancakes, Bells?” He asks, letting her go.

“Yes, please, please, please.” She bounces. Moon holds out her arms, and Bella bounces right into them.

“Fine pancakes it is then, and then you need to get changed for school. Ann brought some clothes for you to pick from.” Colin gets up, stretching.

Bella slips free of Moon and goes to look for the clothes Ann brought with the pajamas.

“Well, let’s see what today brings.” Colin remarks kissing Moon quickly as he walks by her to follow Bella.
