Chapter 50
CHAPTER FIFTY.
Pete entered the room, the big boss was already seated and waiting for him.
"I'm sorry for keeping you waiting, boss," he said sincerely and bowed respectfully to him. Ever since his last encounter with him, he has been obediently doing what Damian asked of him.
"I thought I asked you to come with your son?" Damian asked in an authoritative voice.
"Yes boss, he is coming" Pete replied as he lowered himself on the sofa opposite the big boss.
"Has Kathleen been suspicious of you these past few days?". "She seems a little suspicious and the Kathleen I know is already planning something in her mind" Pete replied, he wanted to say something when the door opened and his son entered.
"Hey Dad........" he stopped short on seeing the person seated with his dad... the big boss, his boss.
"Delvin is your son?" Damian asked, he was a bit surprised at how fate played tricks. The man who broke his woman's heart four years back is also the son of the man who almost killed his father in law.
"Boss?" Delvin asked more out of shock, he knew he was supposed to meet someone with his dad today but he didn't know it was the big boss.
"Is this the person you work for?" Pete asked his stupefied son " Y...ye...yes" he replied almost stammering, after his last encounter with the couple, he has been living quietly and doing his job waiting for his punishment, not knowing his father was somehow connected to him.
"It seems our fate is intertwined Delvin, you broke Amy's heart and your father almost killed her dad, what do you have to say about it?" Damian was enjoying the look of horror on both father and son's face. Did they think he would let them go so easily? They must be joking,
"I don't understand what you mean boss," Delvin replied with a confused look on his face. He has never been close to his father, they only met on specific occasions and they hardly talked about their lives so what Damian was saying made no sense to him.
"It seems your son knows nothing about what you do, that is by the way. I haven't called you here to settle your family issues, I want you to go to an interview tomorrow and answer all the questions you will be asked correctly, am I understood?".
"Yes boss".
"What's going on dad?" Delvin whispered into his dad's ears. "I have important things to do" Damian said and walked out, leaving the father and son duo to talk to themselves." Dad, what deal do you have with my boss? Do you know my history with him?". "Anything I am doing now is to guarantee your safety Delvin and for the first time in my life, I regret everything I have done".
Delvin was really confused now but his father was not willing to say anything further, he watched him as he walked out of the room with his head bowed in shame. He has never seen his father look this defeated before and his mind began to wonder what everything was all about, but what he didn't know was the big truth that would be revealed sooner or later.
Jennie was pacing up and down the room in a worried manner, she has been trying to reach Ailda for hours now and the call was not connecting and added to her worry, her mum was nowhere to be found since morning. "What the fuck is wrong with everyone" she muttered under her breath in annoyance. "Ma'am" someone called from the door, it was Dolly. Even after losing everything, Dolly kept working for her.
"What is it Dolly?" She asked, uninterested.
"Ma'am, the investigator you hired called and he wants to meet". "Okay then, let's go," Jennie replied, grabbing her purse. They arrived at the hotel in less than thirty and he was already there waiting for them. "You stay and watch so no one disturbs us".
"Okay ma' Dolly replied and stood near the door as she watched Jennie enter into the private room.
"What did you find out?" Jennie asked the moment she entered the room. She could only pray and hope that whatever her mum was hiding would not shatter the already broken family.
"It seems Mrs Kathleen and Pete had a relationship before she married Mr Sabastian" the investigator who's name was Mac replied.
"What?" She quickly collected the file he was holding and went through it. It was detailed information about her mom's relationship with Pete and how she was also involved in the underworld before she married dad".
"Are you sure about This?" Part of her wanted this information to be false, how could her mum be involved with that scoundrel who couldn't even do a job properly, how could she be involved with this man?and were they still together?. Different thoughts were running through her mind and she felt suffocated.
"I still believe there is something which I can't pinpoint but I will find that out" Mac said. "Thank you and please keep me updated" they exchanged pleasantries and Jennie left. To her, Kathleen had a lot of explaining to do.
"Mum!!!!" Jennie yelled the moment she entered the house, anger was visible on her face. "Why are you shouting?" Gwen asked, rushing down from the stairs. She was in her room having her usual nap when she heard Jennie's voice. "Where is mum?" Jennie replied, ignoring her question.
"She is in her room". Soon after Gwen answered the question, Kathleen walked into the parlor. She was surprised as to why Jennie was screaming like that. "What happened Jennie, why were you shouting?" She asked in a concerned tone, her motherly instincts kicked in and she thought her daughter was in danger. "You happened mum" she snapped angrily," can you tell us what your relationship with that scoundrel Pete is?".
"What?" Kathleen's mind went blank, has Jennie found out everything?
"Just tell me the truth mum".
"What is going on here?" Gwen asked, she knew Jennie had been investigating their mum but right now she was still in the dark about what they were talking about. "What is the meaning of this Jennie?" Kathleen snapped angrily. "Cut the crap mum, why didn't you tell us you had an affair with Pete in the past? He was your boyfriend before you married dad, is that what you have been hiding from us?".
"What?" Gwen chipped in.
Part of Kathleen was happy because Jennie didn't find out the most important thing, she would take that secret to her grave.
"We ended a long time ago, Jennie?". "Then why did you still go back to ask him
for help to kill dad? Are you still having an affair with him till this date?".
A slap landed on her face, Kathleen had slapped Jennie out of anger, "you will not speak to me In that tone young lady, I am your mother.
Jennie scoffed," I already told you mum, if anything happens we will all go down together, whatever you have with Pete, you better end it now and focus on the work at hand" saying that she angrily grabbed her purse and left the house, she felt suffocated in the presence of the woman she called her mother.
"Mum" Gwen called but Kathleen stopped her.
"No need to say anything" she said and walked to her room.
