Chapter 34-Rose
Henson drummed his fingers against the steering wheel in time with the drums on the radio. His lips curved in a slight smile. He stole a quick glance.
“What’s up, Rosie?” Each time he called me that, my heart would flutter.
When Thatch had said it, it had ignited a fire. But, then again, we had been in the throws of ecstasy.
“Looking at how cute you are.”
“Oh, I’m cute, am I?” He reached over and rubbed my cheek.
“You are. You’re sweet and funny. I enjoy it.”
“I’m glad. I want you to be happy around me.”
I tucked my legs under me and turned in my seat. My dress rode up, and Hen groaned and chuckled.
“Woman, exposing skin like that will result in a car crash. I don’t feel like explaining to our mates, I wrecked because our female decided to flash some thigh.”
“I can’t help it. The fabric is slippery. Do you want me to distract you from this distraction?” I tugged at the hem, but it didn’t stay.
“I want to say no, but I’m seconds from saying fuck it and jumping you.” Hen pushed his hand between my knees.
Laughing, I put my hand on his forearm. “I have questions about this shared egg thing the boys keep bringing up.”
Henson nodded his head. “It’s a weird thing. So ask away.”
“Okay. First, were they born from the same egg? Like legit hatched, not born.”
“Right, dragons prefer to lay eggs. So their mother spent her pregnancy with them in dragon form. Not half-shifted but a full-on dragon. It was a short duration. She laid her clutch after about a month. They were in their egg for close to 8 months. When they did hatch Biggs was born first. Then Thatcher. Thatcher was smaller and weaker, so he received more specialized care. Biggs was healthy, so his brothers took care of him.”
“Their mother didn’t?”
“Nope. She’s never been kind to Biggs. She’s been friends with my parents since I started dating the twins. But she always tried to convince me to only date Thatch. Not sure why.”
I chewed on my lip. That would explain a lot about Biggs’s attitude towards Thatcher now. If she was so against them sharing a mate or boyfriend, how would that make her feel about them both being my mate? They were both my mate. While Thatch and I were close, I couldn’t disregard Biggs.
“So, are twins common?”
“No. And male twins are even more uncommon. Twins usually consist of a female and a male. The female is typically larger, stronger, and is first at everything. The males are usually small and take longer to grow outside the egg.”
“So in their situation, Biggs would be the female, and Thatcher is the male.”
Henson’s lips thinned. “I never thought about it like that. But, you know, that would make many things make sense.”
I rubbed his arm absently. “Like how Biggs has multiple mates? Or his drive to have children?”
“His attitude is so much like his mother’s. How he’s always been so aggressive and dominant. He’s hit milestones sooner than Thatcher did. It makes so much sense. He should have been female.” Henson paled a little.
My brows knit in confusion. How did that affect our bond if he was supposed to be female? “Then does that make me a mate of convenience instead of an actual mate?”
Henson squeezed my thigh. “No. Don’t think that. You are his mate, his real mate. I know what you’re doing to him. You need to seal the bond and know exactly where you stand with him.”
I leaned over and rested my head on his shoulder. “You’re right. Maybe today, if not soon.”
