The Bride Who Said No: Escaping the Shadows of Yesterday

Chapter 102

Freya snorted of derision, "So, I'm supposed to thank you now. Is that it?"

At that moment, the driver finally noticed the absence of any genuine mirth in Freya's eyes.

A sudden chill ran down the driver's spine, but he quickly reassured himself.

He thought, 'This Ms. Dawson, Freya, isn't anything special. She's just another pawn in Mr. Sutton's grand scheme.'

The driver said, "Ms. Dawson, don't think that getting chummy with Mrs. Sutton will solve all your problems. Mr. Sutton has no tolerance for uppity heiresses! Take Ms. Harwood, for example. She's always so graceful and composed. If you don't step up your game, you can kiss the Mrs. Sutton title goodbye!"

The driver knew Freya cherished her place as Mrs. Sutton the most and that she minded Eloise. After all, hadn't she tried to win over Kieran by mimicking Eloise?

Thinking he had Freya right where he wanted her, the driver was caught off guard when Freya's icy command cut through the air. "Stop the car!"

The word sent the driver slamming on the brakes.

"Ms. Dawson, what are..." Before he could finish, Freya had stormed out of the car.

The driver's face turned pale when he saw Freya getting out of the vehicle. He quickly got out, his expression growing stern. "Ms. Dawson! What on earth are you doing?"

"The Sutton family employs such rude staff. I'll have to get to the bottom of this. Who permitted you to speak those words?" Freya wasn't joking around.

The driver's face turned ashen instantly. Freya used to be so meek and cautious, not even batting an eyelid at far worse remarks. What had changed?

"Ms. Dawson, I was only looking out for your best interest! If it were Ms. Harwood, she'd never mistreat a long-serving employee like this!" The driver emphasized 'long-serving employee'.

Freya knew this driver was one of Audrey's trusted men, having served her for over a decade. Even if Freya were to complain to Audrey, it wouldn't result in serious repercussions for him. Moreover, the driver's words were most likely echoing Audrey's sentiments.

Freya scoffed, "Really? Since you keep bringing up Ms. Harwood, why don't you go chauffeur her? I'm curious what Audrey would think about your praises for Eloise."

The driver's complexion shifted at Freya's words. Everyone knew Audrey disliked Eloise. If Audrey discovered he'd been singing Eloise's praises behind her back, he'd be in hot water!

"Ms. Dawson. Ms. Dawson, I

misspoke earlier. How could Ms.

Harwood compare to you? You're the future lady of the Sutton family!" Shifting gears, the driver turned overly polite, "Mrs. Sutton is waiting you. Let's hop back in the car and talk this through, okay?"

But witnessing the driver's quick about-face, Freya hailed a nearby cab instead.

"I, the ungrateful Ms. Dawson, don't deserve to ride in the Sutton family's car. Since Audrey insists on seeing me, I'll take a taxi there. I wouldn't want to keep her waiting." With that, Freya got into the cab and drove off.

Watching this unfold, the driver turned as white as a sheet. Audrey valued her reputation above all else.
