The Billionaire's Mistake (Anya and Daniel)

Chapter MISTAKE 137

Chapter 137: Threatening the Attorney General

The moment Justin ended the call with Daniel, lie swiftly dialed the office of a prestigious law firm he invested in. If he needed to mobilize legal aid as efficiently as the Mafia, they were the ones to call.

After a couple rings, an associate picked up. "Louis & Associates, how may I assist you?"

"Linda, it's Justin. I need you to assemble a team of your best. We have a situation," Justin instructed.

"Right away, sir. May I have some details on the matter so I can brief the team properly?" Linda asked.

"Family matters. It is an extraction. Agents are coming for Daniel's wife. If you can't extract her, you must not let be moved alone." Justin said.

"illegal warrants?" Linda asked.

"Very likely. They want her alone. No matter the means, don't let them take her," Justin ordered.

Linda's input on the other end indicated she understood the coded language. "I'll have Peter, Jessica, and the rest of the team ready to mobilize immediately." "Alright!"

"Understood, sir. If we can't get to her, how far should we go?" Linda asked.

"There is no limit," Justin said.

Chapratening the Attorney General

Attorney General Marcus Russo strode down the marble-floored hallway of the Justice Department, his polished shoes echoing across the room. It had been a long day of meetings. and political gatherings, and all he wanted now was a stiff drink and the solitude of his office.

As he approached the heavy oak door with his name and title boldly written on it, he loosened his tie slightly.

The handle turned smoothly under his grip, and Marcus pushed the door open, his eyes immediately drawn to the leather armchair facing his desk. It wasn't empty.

Seated there, as casually as if he owned the place, was a figure Marcus had only ever seen in grainy surveillance photos and hushed briefings. Ray Shaw, the aging but still formidable head of one of the country's most powerful crime families.

Marcus froze, his hand still on the doorknob. His mind raced through a dozen scenarios, none of them good. How had Shaw gotten past security? Was this an assassination? A threat?

Before he could call for his guards, Shaw's gravelly voice cut through the tension. "Good evening, Mr. Attorney General. Please close the door. We have matters to discuss."

Marcus's hand instinctively moved towards the panic button concealed beneath his jacket lapel, but Shaw's next words stopped him cold.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you," Rat said, his tone calm but laced with steel. "Not when I have information that could bring down the President himself."

Marcus's eyebrows shot up, his finger pausing. "What did you say?"

Ray leaned forward slightly, his aged face catching the warm light of the desk lamp. "You heard me, Mr. Russo. I have something you're going to want to see. Something that changes everything." Chacer U17 INeatening the Attorney General

The attorney general's mind spun. This had to be a bluff. And yet... the very fact that Ray Shaw was here, in this office, said a lot about the matter.

"Why would I want anything you have to offer, Shaw?" Marcus asked as his brow rose. You're a known criminal. Anything from you cannot be trusted." Marcus hated the Shaw family.

A thin smile crossed Shaw's face. "Because, Mr. Attorney General, you and the President aren't exactly on the best of terms these days, are you?"

"Neither are we," Marcus said, his tone clipped.

It was not well known that he and the president had a bad history, but it was not a secret either.

Ray chuckled, a dry, humorless sound. "Come now, Mr. Russo. We both know that's not true. The president's been blocking your investigations, stonewalling your requests for additional funding. He's been undermining you at every turn." Marcus's jaw clenched. The old man was right; damn him. The last few months had been a constant battle with the president. Even more so than usual.

"Even if this is so," Marcus said carefully, "why should I believe anything you have is worth.

my

time? You're Ray Shaw. You're not exactly known for your honesty."

Shaw's eyes glittered dangerously. "Precisely because I am Ray Shaw. I don't waste my time on small matters, Mr. Attorney General. When I move, it's for something big. And this? This is bigger than you can imagine."

A tense silence fell over the room. Marcus found himself torn between his hatred for the Mafia and the Shaw family and the burning curiosity Ray had ignited. If there was even a shred of truth to what the old criminal was saying.. Chapple / Threatening ita Attorney General

"What exactly do you claim to have?" Marcus asked, his voice low.

Shaw gestured to the chair behind the desk. "Are you sure you won't sit down? You might want a drink for this."

"Just tell me what you have, Shaw," Marcus snapped, his patience wearing thin.

The old man's face grew serious, all traces of amusement vanishing. "Very well. The President of the country is the secret leader of the Twelve Guns."

Marcus felt as if the air had been sucked out of the room. The Twelve Guns were a shadowy criminal organization that had been terrorizing the country for years. The Justice Department had been trying to crack their leadership structure for decades, but every lead had gone cold.

Slowly, almost against his will, Marcus found himself sinking into his chair. "That's... that's impossible," he muttered, but even as the words left his mouth, pieces began to fall into place. The blocked investigations, the oddity in government agencies, the constant interference from the presidential office...

Ray nodded, a grim look in his eyes. "I thought that might get your attention. Now, shall we talk?"

Marcus's mind raced. If this were true, it would be the scandal of the century. The President, a criminal mastermind? It seemed absurd, and yet.

"How do I know you're not lying?" Marcus demanded, his knuckles white as he gripped the arms of his chair. Not out of shock but excitement. Could it be he had finally found something on the president?

Ray reached into his jacket, causing Marcus to tense, but the old man simply withdrew a USB drive. "Everything you need to impeach the president. Bank records, coded communications,

meeting locations. It's all there."

Marcus eyed the drive warily. "And what do you want in exchange for this information, Shaw? You can't say you are doing this out of the goodness of your heart."

Ray's laugh was bitter. "Nothing at all, Mr. Attorney General. What I want is simple: I want the Twelve Guns destroyed. They've been encroaching on my territory for years, and I'm tired of it. You take them down, you take down the President, and my business continues uninterrupted."

"You expect me to just ignore your criminal activities?" Marcus asked incredulously.

Shaw spread his hands. "You talk as though you could find any activity. I expect you to prioritize, Mr. Russo. What's more important? Bringing down my family, or exposing corruption at the highest levels of government?"

Marcus leaned back in his chair, his mind racing. Everything in his training, everything in his moral code, screamed at him to call for his guards to arrest Shaw on the spot. But if what the old man was saying was true...

"Let's say hypothetically that I believe you," Marcus said slowly. "What's to stop me from taking that drive and ignoring you?"

Shaw's smile was cold. "Because, Mr. Attorney General, the president killed your daughter, Helen."

Marcus' face went pale. "You are lying," he said in disbelief.
