Chapter 91
Grayson
POV
We were all crammed into a tiny space, while Knox's fingers danced over the keyboard, a look of frustration on his face. Flair's father was fit to be tied, yanking on his tie and sweating profusely, while lan's face was grim, his fingers at the ready on his cell phone. "I'm following the traffic cameras and nearby CCTV cameras. It looks as though they abandoned the limousine" Knox murmured, keeping his calm while the rest of us glared daggers at him "And then they got into an SUV" he continued, fingers continuing to dance across the keyboard. "Goddamn it Knox how long is this going to take?" I growled.
"As long as it does" he shouted, losing his composure and glaring over his shoulder at me "and this shouldn't have happened in the first place if you hadn't put my sister in bloody danger like this."
"How was I to know that this guy was going to kidnap her?" I demanded, pacing back and forth in the small office that we'd commandeered, simply because it had been the closest one that Knox could set himself up in "It makes no sense. Somebody told him about his ex-wife's pregnancy and we were careful" I hissed "There should have been no trace."
"Well clearly you didn't do a good enough job" snapped lan, looking ready to punch somebody, presumably me "If anything happens to Flair, so help me god" he threatened.
"Enough" Mr Grant interrupted, wiping sweat off his forehead "Blaming Grayson is not going to help Flair right now. Knox, you need to keep hacking the security cameras and the traffic cameras. Find that SUV and where it ended up. lan stop distracting him and let him do his job" he pleaded.
lan growled "We should have had men on Flair protecting her."
"In hindsight yes, but it's too late to blame each other now."
"I've contacted Myles's family" Timothy's voice was low from the doorway and we looked at him, Mr Grant's face pale, while I nodded regretfully "They are devastated at the news. I assured them that we would catch the culprits responsible for his death and that he died protecting his passenger. It was of little comfort to them though."
My driver. I closed my eyes. The man had skipped my mind completely in my desperate need to find Flair. Gods, I was a bastard. I looked at Timothy gratefully.
"Thank you," I said heavily.
Knox shot a glance over his shoulder, his eyes dark and glacial "I hope you didn't promise that we would catch them alive" he said darkly.
Timothy looked a little stunned as Mr Grant and lan nodded in agreement.
"Are you saying that you're..." Timothy began to stammer.
"It's probably best you don't answer that. I would rather not have to say anything under oath" I interrupted quickly.
"As if any of us would be going to court over this" lan said amused "but just in case, we will take your advice."
I tried not to shudder at the deadly look on all the men's faces. They promised retribution for the kidnapping of their younger sister and I did not envy the kidnappers or Mr Ronaldo when they were caught. Something told me they were in for a world of pain when it happened and I couldn't even bring myself to feel sorry for them. My cell phone rang and I glanced at it.
"It's him" I hissed.
"Keep him on the phone, I might be able to triangulate his location," Knox said quickly "Bastard got rid of Flair's cell phone so I couldn't locate it."
I answered the phone.
"Mr Oakes" his voice was calm and composed.
"Where is my wife you son of a b***h" I snarled "I'm going to kill you when I get my hands on you. You have no idea who you are dealing with. It's not too late to let her go and save yourself" I advised him.
"I don't take kindly to threats Mr Oake," he said coldly.
"This isn't a threat" I snapped.
"I'm going to give you a chance to save your wife from a world of hurt. Where is my ex-wife and child? You've had some time to communicate with her, surely she knows the situation by now and how dire it is? Or are you still being foolish enough to believe that I won't harm your wife?"
I gripped the cell phone tighter. Knox was still typing frantically away at his keyboard and whatever equipment he was using. He gestured at me to keep talking. "Don't you dare lay a hand on her" I snarled "This is between you and me." "Have you contacted my wife?" he asked.
Silence. I gritted my teeth. He must have sensed the answer because I heard the sound of a chair scraping and then his voice "Flair, why don't you say hello to your husband" he said smoothly.
"Flair" I burst out "Flair are you okay? Don't touch her, you bastard I'll..."
I trailed off as I heard her voice, a small cry of pain as he hit her, the sound causing all of us to stiffen in shock.
"Did you hear that Grayson?" his voice was a matter of fact "That was just a little slap for posterity's sake, I can do much worse than that and I will. Her hands are tied behind her back so she can't fight back" his voice was amused "she's a very pretty woman by the way. I can see why you married her. My men might even want to have a turn with her."
Ice ran through my veins. lan looked as though he was about to murder somebody and Flair's father looked ill, his body shaking as he ran a hand through his hair, his eyes closing as he listened to the phone call.
"Ronaldo, I'm begging you," I said as Knox's fingers moved even faster, his excitement visible for us to see "Don't hurt her anymore."
"Where is my wife?" he asked, calmly.
I couldn't answer. I heard another slap and another cry, louder this time from Flair, and I gripped the phone so tight my knuckles were turning white. "Where is my wife?"
Another cry. "Bastard" I shouted as Flair began to sob in the background "I'm going to kill you."
Another few slaps and cries. He was breathing heavily when he came back to the phone. I had tears in my eyes. So did lan and her father while Knox was biting his lip so hard it was bleeding as he typed away. I could see that he almost had the location. Then it disappeared. Knox blinked and looked at me in disbelief, but just as quickly began going back to the cameras and bringing them back up rapidly. "Where's my wife?"
"Ronaldo I don't know. She could have moved by now" I cried, and then heard another yell from Flair that had me gritting my teeth and clenching my jaw.
Son of a b***h. I was going to wring his neck when I got my hands on him. I was going to kill him slowly and painfully. I was going to rip his innards out and let him bleed out on the floor. The urge to kill was overwhelming as I was forced to listen to the sounds of my wife being hurt on the phone and the knowledge that I couldn't do anything to help her just yet was slowly killing me inside.
"Your wife is quite banged up," Ronaldo said, as Flair's father looked as though he was about to faint "and I'm not sure how much pain she can take. As for my ex-wife you should phone her and find out her location" he growled "I can see that it might take some time so I'm going to give you another chance. But I also think you might need the incentive to make sure this time you cooperate" he added while I felt my heart beginning to race.
What kind of incentive was he going to offer? "I'm going to call back shortly and if you can't give me any information on Sarah, I'm going to offer Flair to one of my men. I'm going to watch as he takes her and I'll record it so that you get a front-row seat" he said as my heart skipped a beat "I wonder if she'll scream your name for help Grayson?" he mocked "I wonder how it will feel to watch another man r**e your woman while you can't do anything but watch it on video?" Flair's father stumbled and then fell onto the nearest chair. Timothy looked like he was about to puke. lan was growling under his breath and Knox was continuing to type away, his fingers stabbing away at the keys.
"You do that and I swear to god..." I began.
"What happens to Flair is entirely up to you" he interrupted "You have the potential to stop this. If anything more happens to her, it's on you," he said and then the phone went dead.
"Son of a b***h" I roared, while Flair's father closed his eyes and lan punched the wall in anger.
"Knox you better be f*****g close to a location," lan said, breathing heavily.
"I swear, I'm getting there, just give me time," Knox said almost shouting "Christ, it's not as easy as I make it look." My phone dinged. I pressed the message button with shaking fingers. It was a photo of Flair. She was tied to a chair and she had a black eye, her face was pale and her lip was bruised and bloodied. Her hair was disheveled and mussed. Her blouse had been torn open to reveal her lace bra and I could see bruises on her collarbone. She looked terrified. I inhaled sharply. I sensed lan as he glanced over my shoulder, and saw his face whiten even more.
"There are two possible locations within a mile of each other. I can only narrow it down to that. I lost track of the car" Knox said, glancing at all of us.
"I don't care, we go to both" I shouted, "give me those locations now."
We all stood at the ready as Knox began to give the addresses.
