Chapter 839
Chapter 839
"I'm telling you, this was no accident!" Manuel huffed indignantly. "I know you've got an axe to grind with me, but Grace-she's seriously ill..." "Mr. Salter, please watch your words!" Brittany interrupted.
Isaac's focus was entirely on Grace, and he had no time to bicker with Manuel.
However, Brittany was not so reserved.
With a steely gaze, she said, "Grandma took a turn for the worse so quickly; we're all worried sick. Is arguing really going to help?"
Manuel's face flushed with frustration at Brittany's rebuff.
"Exactly, cut the chatter, will you?" Noel chimed in, "Grandma is ill, we're all on edge. Your quarreling is just making things worse. If you can't stand being here, then just leave already." Manuel's face turned an ashen hue as he reluctantly clamped his mouth shut.
Grace's condition had deteriorated so suddenly that the hospital had pooled its best resources, yet the prognosis wasn't looking good.
All through the night, the doors to the operation room swung open and shut.
Brittany lost count of how many critical condition forms they had signed.
When it came to the last one, Isaac refused to sign.
His face was pale, his eyes bloodshot, resembling a wind-up toy that had run out of steam, frozen in place.
Noel, too, refused to sign.
He feared that signing might mean giving up on Grace completely.
Manuel was even more hesitant.
In this tense standoff, Brittany took Isaac's hand, her voice laden with concern. "Zakky, Grandma's in grave danger. You've got to sign. We can't delay her treatment." Isaac looked to Brittany, his eyes a pool of confusion. "But..."
"We can't give up, no matter the outcome." Brittany grasped his hand. "Just sign."
Almost mechanically, Isaac scrawled his last name. As he handed the form to the nurse, his eyes were icy with resolve.
"Whatever it takes, you keep Grace alive!"
The nurse, taken aback by his intensity, promised nervously.

Once the nurse had left, Brittany led Isaac to the stairwell.
No sooner had they entered than Brittany found herself pinned against the wall.
The towering figure pressed close, his hands imprisoning her waist, hot tears soaking through the thin fabric and burning against her fair skin. Brittany was stunned.
It was the first time in years she'd seen Isaac gripped by fear.
Grace was his only true family.
Through all the years, Grace had poured her heart and soul into him, and now with her in critical condition, Isaac's heart was shattered. Instinctively, Brittany wrapped her arms around his waist, her own heart aching. "Grandma will pull through. Don't worry too much." Isaac buried his head in the crook of her neck, his tears falling relentlessly, drenching her skin and sending shivers down her spine. "Grandma will pull through."
It was the only reassurance Brittany could offer over and over again.
Isaac remained silent.
The air heavy with an oppressive silence.
After what seemed like an eternity, Isaac regained his composure, wiped away his tears,
and returned to his usual stoic self. "You haven't slept all night. Maybe..."
Brittany had meetings the next day, and if she didn't sleep tonight, she'd be useless tomorrow.
"I'll get Nathan to come and take you home."
Brittany held on to his hand, "No, I don't want to go."
How could she think of rest with Grace in such a state?
"I'll stay here at the hospital with you."
There was a time and place for everything, and Brittany knew her priorities. "Don't worry, I'll stay with you"
She wouldn't leave the hospital until Grace was out of danger.
Isaac felt a strange sense of relief. "Okay"
Together, they returned to the operation room doors and waited nearly three hours until finally, the doors swung open.
