Chapter 789
Chapter 789
A flicker of disdain flashed in Megan's eyes when she heard Mila's righteous accusations against Kari. How could someone who had had an affair have the audacity to blame others? But Megan had made up her mind that Nathan was indeed an excellent choice. She wanted to marry Nathan and knew she had to get along with Mila.
"Ma'am, don't get too upset. Ms. Malone might not understand your good intentions right now. In time, she might."
"They're about to get married. We're running out of time."
Mila felt the greatest indignity of her life. Her son, whom she had raised single-handedly, was not only disobedient but also defied her!
Megan rolled her eyes when she heard this. She had researched Kari, and compared to her peers, Kari was truly outstanding. It was a pity that she did not meet the Jarvis family's standards. Apart from being her love rival, Megan bore no malice towards Kari. But sadly, this marriage could not happen.
Perhaps Nathan's warning had worked. Mila had been unusually quiet the past few days. Kari was taken aback.
"Don't take my mom's words to heart. I have no intention of returning to the Jarvis family. You don't need to interact with them much, either. I'm living my life with you."
He had the right to decide with whom he wanted to spend his life.
Hearing this, Kari was reassured. "Nathan, thank you for understanding me."
Indeed, she could not adapt to the high-society lifestyle Mila was accustomed to. She had attended numerous parties with Brittany, and while she could socialize at evening parties, high-society afternoon teas were a real challenge for her.
Nathan comforted Kari and dropped her off at her studio. Over the past five years, Kari had made a name for herself at the studio as the second-in-command and had her own office.
Megan was sitting inside when she pushed open the door.
"Ms. Campbell, what brings you here?" Kari frowned at the sight of Megan in her office. They were not friendly enough for Megan to just walk into her office.
"Sorry for dropping by unannounced, Ms. Malone. I hope you don't mind," Megan said with an insincere apology,
Kari sat down and poured Megan a cup of coffee.
"Ms. Malone, have you thought about what I mentioned earlier?"
"I'm not planning to break up with Nathan."
Kari shook her head. "You're so excellent, Ms. Campbell. You could find someone better. Why are you so fixated on Nathan?"
Why should Megan, a woman of high society, want to compete with her? Kari could not figure it out.
Megan leaned back in her chair, clearly somewhat troubled. "Ms. Malone, I admire you. I don't want to make things ugly between us.
I'll say this again: if you decide to break up with Nathan, I'll agree to any conditions you propose."
Megan left her business card and glanced at Kari before leaving. "Ms. Malone, I advise you to break up with Nathan sooner rather than later. He's bound to return to H city in under six months, and you'll split up then." Megan's words left Kari in a daze.
Why was she so sure that Nathan would return to H city?
Kari did not tell Nathan about this incident. But three days later, she heard that Megan had left Imperial City and had apparently returned to H City.
Naturally, Kari had researched Megan. She was the only daughter of the Campbell family, raised amid wealth and luxury. In other words, she always got what she wanted.
Kari felt uneasy, and her work suffered as a result.
Brittany noticed Kari's abnormal behavior and intended to talk to her. However, a piece of news interrupted their conversation.
After a meeting, the secretary handed over a tablet. "Ms. Dustin, we've got a problem."
Brittany thought there was another issue at the studio.
