Chapter Prowlers
He turned around and stormed out the house, shifting as soon as he reached the porch and howled out before taking off towards the woods. Mik's shoulders tensed as she looked at me.
"That asshole! I trusted him and then I find out that he has some secret little whore?"
She was fuming, in fact in all the years I had known her, I had never seen her this mad before but I also felt she had no reason to be this mad, given her past.
"Mik, you can't really blame the guy."
The look she gave me almost made me piss my pants but I wasn't going to let her scare me.
"You're taking his side? YOU! Ms. I saved myself for my mate. The one who said they would never hurt you or betray you, and they were made especially for you?" She proclaimed throwing her hands in the air.
"All I'm saying is, you can't get mad about something that happened before he met you. Everyone has a past and lets not forget the fun you had after you turned 18 and got your wolf. The word mate had you running from one man to the next..." She only got angrier as I continued talking. "And there's nothing wrong with that."
She huffed and stormed out the house right after Cole. I thought about going after her but I knew if I followed her it would make matters worse, plus they needed to work this out with themselves. Although, I probably shouldn't have agreed with Cole but he wasn't wrong in this situation and she needed to come to terms with it on her own.
Standing in the living room alone, my mind went back to my mate and how I ran out again, without an explanation. I walked out the door and headed back to his pack to try and smooth things over but when I reached the clearing my skin started to crawl.
The hair on my arms stood straight up and my wolf began stalking around in my head. I learned a long time ago to take her emotions seriously and be cautious when it came to our surroundings because it was the most crucial part of survival and she was the best at assessing it.
Hiding behind a tree, I peeked around and noticed three mangy mutts stalking towards the border when all of a sudden, a large grey wolf appeared. Every muscle in my body began to twitch for a fight as I watched Bishop charge towards them.
The wolves, which I quickly realized were prowlers, turned to run away causing my wolf to surge forward and stop them, effectively caging them between us and our savage mate. He growled loudly when he saw me but my mind was preoccupied as one of the wolves came after me.
I lowered my belly to the ground, keeping my tail end in the air, ready to pounce when he got closer taking him by surprise. When I lunged forward, I pushed into his chest with my front shoulder throwing him back into a tree. He yelped out in pain causing the other two to turn their attention towards me.
Bishop took advantage of their distraction and jumped onto the bigger one and bit into his scruff, leaving a large gaping wound. The injured wolf fell to the ground while the other wild animal continued towards me.
Aubrey watch out!
I turned my head to see him closing in on me when Bishop tackled him from the side. He hit a rock and fell to the ground unconscious. I stared as all three wolves lay there perishing when I felt him brush up against me then nudged me towards his pack.
How do you know my wolf's name and how can I hear you in my head, we haven't marked each other yet!
Ever since your last heat, our wolves have been talking. Their bond is strengthening faster than our human bond is. His name is Kolby, by the way.
We finally crossed into his territory and headed back to his pack house, shifting along the way. We found some clothes and changed then made our way to his office. I was still amazed that our wolves could secretly communicate yet Bishop and I weren't able to. Or were we and he had been keeping it from me on purpose?
"So how long have you been knowing this. And when were you going to tell me?"
"I just realized it after you left when Kolby wouldn't quit crying out to your wolf, which by the way just saved your life. You're welcome." He said as he slammed the door.
Flinching from the loud ban, I stepped closer to him and slowly placed my hand on his chest. I felt the anger melting away with every breath he took and stared into his eyes as he returned to a calmer state.
"I'm sorry I left without saying anything but it was urgent and I didn't want to waste time explaining if Mik or Kam were in danger."
He cocked his head and asked, "Kam was here, how could she have been in trouble?"
"What do you mean Kam was here?"
"She arrived while you were talking to Naomi, which is why I was coming back to the office but you ran out of here like a bat out of hell and wouldn't turn around when we tried to stop you."
Before I could ask why, a light knocking came from the other side of the door and in walked Deacon and Kam, hand in hand. For the third time in one day, I was surprised at what I had just seen.
"Hi, Em!" She said sweetly as she released his hand and stepped towards me.
I raised my eyebrow and folded my arms across my chest. "So is this why your phone was going straight to voicemail?"
Deacon rubbed the back of his neck and said, "Uh that was my fault, Em. I made her turn it off so we could get to know one another properly."
Although I was upset that she wasn't reachable, I couldn't help the excitement bubbling inside for her. She found her mate and from the looks of it, he was smitten with her.
"I'm happy for you both, even though I ran back to Chase's pack for nothing."
I pulled her in for a tight hug then let her go back to Deacon. A ping of jealousy hit me hard as I watched them leave like a happy couple. No shouting or complaining, just two adoring people who accepted their newly joined fates.
Turning around I met Bishop's beautiful brown eyes full of sympathy while I yearned for the kind of love that both my best friends were receiving. Everything about us was complicated and was only going to get more complex the closer it got to my confrontation with my father's council.
He took a few steps forward and said, "Red..."
"You don't have to say anything, Bishop. Now can we get back to work, I believe we were discussing punishments within the pack."
I returned to the edge of his desk where I had been situated for the last two days and began flipping through random documents as he strolled past me to his chair.
After flipping mindlessly through the pages, he placed his hand on top, stopping me from turning another as he leaned in placing his lips over mine. I parted them slightly allowing him to slip his tongue delicately against mine. It was slow and soft yet filled with so much love that I felt as if my heart was going to burst.
"You deserve the same kind of love they have and if you let me, I can give you that and more."
Well damn, that didn't take long for those problems to return! Glad the two of them were able to take them down like the amazing power couple they are!
Awwwwwwww! Kam found her mate. KUDOS to you all who guessed it was Deacon.
OMG! He told her he wants to give her the love she deserves!!! SWOON!!!!
