The Big Bad Wolf Mate

Chapter Introductions

A couple of hours after the girls fell asleep, I crept down the stairs and out the front door. I slipped off the porch in stealth mode and took off into the woods where I had last seen the grey wolf. Picking up his scent was a little difficult with the light sprinkle of rain that had made its way through the area sometime during the night but eventually I caught a whiff of something familiar.

I quickly shifted, letting the wind blow through my golden auburn fur, and stuck my snout into the air inhaling deeply. When I caught a faint smell of that distinguishable scent of spicy oak and birchwood I took off following what was left of it. Soon I was standing in the middle of a clearing where the smell ended. Frustrated, I dropped to the ground and laid my head on my paws trying to figure out what to do next.

I looked up to see the moon high and bright in the sky, lighting the forest floor with a glowing shimmer. There was a single ray of light beaming down, illuminating a path that was leading right through two humongous trees and straight into a thick patch of grass. I stood up and trotted along it, as if it were created specifically for me, when the large grey wolf came into view. I stopped in my tracks and quickly crouched down, trying not to get caught but just as I was about to drop out of view he looked straight at me with a dark, sinister look.

My eyes widened as he slowly began approaching me and the only thing I could think to do was to walk towards him, showing him that I wasn't going to back down or run away with my tail tucked between my legs. He cocked his head to the side then growled as if to scare me off. I smirked but continued on my mission proving that I wasn't scared of him. He stopped and growled again, only this time it was more of a warning but my body wouldn't stop itself, as if my adrenaline was catapulting me straight into danger.

My heart was racing and my body began burning the closer I got to him. My senses heightened to a new level as the sounds around me came alive in a symphony of beautiful melodies. The light from the moon danced around us as if we were on display for the whole world to see, yet at the same time, we were the only two in existence. The atmosphere had suddenly thickened with lust, hunger and need that it was becoming hard to breathe.

We stared into each other's eyes, waiting for the other to make a move, when suddenly he barked loudly once causing my wolf to escape into the recesses of my mind, pushing me forward and caused my body to shift involuntarily. I fell to the ground, naked and confused about what just happened when I heard rustling coming from the tall grass. I scurried back, sitting on the ground with my knees to my chest and my arms wrapped around my legs, hoping to make myself small enough that he would walk right past me but no such luck.

"Come out!"

His voice was as smooth as velvet and the way that command rolled off his tongue made my stomach do flips. I contemplated sinking deeper into the tall weeds but with the aroused scent I was putting off, he wouldn't have any trouble finding me at all. I took a deep breath and puffed out my chest then stood up with my head held high. My eyes settled on the heavily tattooed chest before me and followed all the way down his body before slowly traveling back up to the smirk on his face.

"Like something you see, Red?"

"What makes you think that?"

"There could be a number of reasons." He stalked towards me then began circling me like a vulture ready to tear apart the meal standing in front of him.

"And what are they?" I croaked out, cursing under my breath for letting my voice fail me.

I tried to act as if being in such close proximity to him had no affect on me but it didn't work. Every bone in my body made me want to jump on him and beg him to lay me on the ground and take advantage of me and I couldn't tell if it was the mate bond or my desperation of being near such an incredibly sexy man but either way I was done for.

"Well first of all, your scent is enough to drive even the most loyal mated wolf to his knees. Second of all, you just eye-fucked me and we don't even know each others names. And lastly..." He had made a complete circle around me and was now standing face to face with me. He leaned in close, looked down my body then back up to my face and said "Your body gave it away."

I looked down to see my nipples painfully standing at attention and my chest riddled with goosebumps from his warm breath fanning over my neck. My mouth got the better of me and before I could stop it, the words came pouring off my tongue.

"So what, you're a hot guy. Can't a girl just enjoy the view?"

He chuckled lowly before he ran his fingertips along my collar bone, leaving a prickly trail along its path. My eyes widened as I watched him suck his bottom lip into his mouth and bite down while he closed his eyes. When he opened them they were the darkest grey color I had ever seen and riddled with so many emotions that I suddenly found it hard to breathe. He stepped back and turned around with his fists clenched at his sides.

"I suggest you leave Red. All the tales you've heard about me are true, I am the Big Bad Wolf of your nightmares."

And with his last word he shifted quickly and ran off deep into the forest. I released a breath that I was unaware I was holding in and crumbled to the ground. I couldn't stop the tears from falling and the sobs wracking my body as I laid down on the cold ground shaking. He felt it but he walked away. Is this really what finding your mate felt like? Was Mik right all along?

I laid there for a while before I dried my tears and pulled myself together then got off the ground and walked back through the trees. I dragged my feet until I reached the pack house then collapsed onto the porch. Lying there I tried to replay the whole conversation in my mind, how it could have gone differently, what I could have done to keep him from leaving, what I would have said that could have made him react differently. But the more I thought about it, the more sad I became. I crawled to the swing and pulled myself up then rested my head on the arm, praying he would rethink his reaction and come back to me. If only it worked like that!

Holy shit! How could her mate be so cold?

How do you think her family will react?

Should she go back after him or leave it alone?
