Chapter Seventeen | Secret Mice
Harvey groaned, running his hands down his face in exhaustion as he walked down the hall towards Byron’s office. All he wanted to do was turn back around and rejoin Bella as she slept peacefully in a ball, but he could not do it. Her sighting today sparked up a lot of unknown stress that he tried to push down and ignore.
He was stupid for thinking that she had only seen a deer or maybe a pack member, but as she explained to him what she saw, he came to realise that he had picked up an unknown scent at the time she reacted to the stranger. The biggest problem was, how did he get past the guards? How did he slip by everyone? And how long had he been watching them?
Harvey hated how distracted he had gotten since Bella arrived, but he also does not regret a thing. She had become his world, and he hated knowing that he had stalled his promise to her for as long as he possibly could. He hated knowing that she could come into heat at any given time, and he would have to leave the packhouse while she went through it, and he also hated how badly he wanted to push her up against a wall and take her completely.
Her bold move was one of the biggest shocks of his life, and even though it has been a few days since then, he still thinks about it. Her touch drives every inch of him mad as he has been finding it harder and harder to keep Fernis contained. Shaking his head, he rubbed his temples and tried to shake off his tiredness.
Byron had been doing some research for him all day so that he could be with Bella. Lying to her did not feel right, but seeing her fox and seeing how happy she was made him feel a lot better as his eyes caught sight of the Alpha’s area and entered. The office was not too far away, and he could hear Byron and Jesse bickering like children. The age differences between everyone were the biggest reason for most of the arguing, Jesse and Grace being older seemed to make them think that they were smarter than the rest, but most of the time, they were proven wrong.
Entering without knocking, he closed the doors behind him and threw himself onto one of the chairs in front of the desk, his eyes lazily scanning the two while Jesse groaned. “They are linked! Just look at all of the connections. The answer is literally in our faces!”
“Then give me the answer, your fucking highness!” Byron screamed, his face red with anger as Harvey could practically see the steam coming out of his ears.
“I DO NOT KNOW! THAT IS YOUR JOB TO FIGURE OUT!”
“It is actually Harvey who is the bastard!”
“I am right here.” Harvey chuckled, both of them jumping as they turned their heads to see his legs on the armrest while he used the other to lean against it. “I need to know what you have found, and clearly, you both have found something.”
Byron pulled his lips into a line, sitting down on his chair as Jesse came around from the desk and sat down next to Harvey. “We have found more than what we were actually looking for.”
Harvey frowned, removing his legs from the armrest and sitting up straight so that his arms were on his knees as he leaned forward. “You are going to have to elaborate.”
“We found her family, Harv,” Byron stated, his voice coming off in disbelief as he spoke. “It took a while, but we found her family. I have not contacted them yet as I was waiting for you, but they are in this pack, they are located a little further away from the rest of us as a few werefoxes preferred to be separate from the rest, but that was fine. Her father is deceased, but her mother is still alive. She is an only child, and her real name is not Bella.”
He felt his chest tighten at the news, his head spinning while he listened. “What is her real name if it is not Bella?”
Jesse grinned; his hands claimed together like a villain while he spoke. “Her real name is Isabelle Dean; Bella is just the cut version.”
“We figure that she has no idea that her real name is Isabelle hence why she has never mentioned it, but we do think that she knows more about this guy that she calls her father than she lets on.” Byron continued. “She was taken from her home when she was just two years old. She would have some form of memory of the event because, apparently, that was the night her true father died, trying to protect her.”
Harvey sucked in a breath, running his fingers through his hair as he processed everything. “I think we should pay her mother a visit. See how much of that information is true before I speak to Bella.”
Byron nodded. “I know this is a lot to take in Harv. We do not have to meet her mother straight away.”
He shook his head. “No, I need to know as much about Bella as possible. The more we know about her and the night she was taken, the more we will know about this guy who took her.”
Jesse chuckled, his grey eyes glowing as Harvey intuitively knew that he thought of something disgusting. “He has a daddy fetish.”
“You are disgusting!”
