Chapter 64 

Liam hadn’t promised he would come pick her up but still, she expected him to do so. “Should I drop you off on my way home? Jenny offered, breaking into Carla’s thoughts. Carla shook her head and smiled “No Jenny, I don’t want to be a bother, I’ll just call a taxi” 

Jenny refused immediately” The great Liam’s wife in a taxi?? I don’t want to imagine what would be on the headline newspaper tomorrow” 

Carla rolled her eyes at that, which made Jenny laughed. 

Come on don’t be stubborn, I’ll take you home. You have to be careful especially now that you’re carrying the unborn heir of L&B company” 

“Whatever “Carla said and rolled her eyes. She was doing that a lot she knew, but couldn’t seem to stop herself. 

A waitress came over to them “A guy is outside, asking for a Mrs Blake She said to Jenny and her eyes kept drifting over to Carla.. 

“Oh that’s you‘ Jenny said to Carla. 

Carla smiled “I think Ben is here “She said and heaved a sigh of relief 

“I knew Liam wouldn’t abandon his beloved wife Jenny teased and laughed. 

“Shut your trap Jenny Carla snapped but ended up joining in the laughter too. 

The waitress lingered around, her gaze occasionally drifting to Carla in awe and admiration. It seemed as though everyone knew her, all thanks to Liam, a public figure, for getting married to her. 

“Do you need something. Eloise? Jenny asked the waitress, raising her eyebrows. 

Eloise looked startled ‘No… No ma’am, I was just checking to see if you needed something” 

“No thanks, you can take your leave Jenny said, smiling tightly. 

“Yes… Yes ma’am “Eloise stammered and left. 

Jenny turned to Carla “Let’s go, shall we?” 

Carla nodded and together, they went outside to see Ben waiting for her. 

“Evening ma’am, the boss asked me to come pick you up “He said and tipped his hat in Jenny’s direction in greeting in which she replied with a warm smile. 

“Is he back from work?” Carla asked, glancing at Ben.. 

He shook his head “No ma’am” with that said, he got the door opened and stood aside while he waited for her to go in.. 

Carla looked at Jenny“We’ll see soon, okay? You can come for a visit too” And she smiled. 

Jenny laughed in reply, humoring her “Sure honey, I’ll stop by sometime and she pulled Carla into a hug. Yeah, she forgot Jenny was a hugger. 

“Bye “Carla said and disentangled herself from the embrace. 

“Bye” Jenny replied and waved until the car was out of sight. 

Carla settled down comfortably in her seat and closed her eyes. 

“Why is he not back yet?” She asked with her eyes still closed 

Ben glanced at her from the rearview mirror, not sure what the best reply would be to a pregnant woman. Yeah he got to find out that his boss’s wife was carrying his child through his boss. Liam had literally threatened to make him lose his job if he so much drive carelessly. He decided to say the truth, even if he wasn’t sure how it would sound to her. 

“I… “He took a deep breath and continued “I have no idea ma’am, he only gave me an order to come pick you up ” 

Carla nodded in understanding “No message from him?” 

He shook his head “No ma’am 

“Okay” She replied 

They got home not long after and she went straight to bed, not bothering to wait up for Liam 

A week later, it was a Saturday morning so the couple were home, Carla still in bed while Liam busied himself with reading newspaper. Carla’s phone rang and his gaze followed the direction the sound came from. The phone was on the dressing table just beside the bed. 

“Carla, you have a call” He called out and Carla tossed and turned but didn’t get up. 

“Bella?” He called out again, louder this time. 

She opened an eye lazily, her gaze not focused on him yet. The shrilling sound of her ringtone seemed to finally get to her because she grimaced and held 

a hand to her head. 

“Oww “She groaned and reached out for her phone. It was Diana 

“Hello?” She said into the speaker, her voice still drowsy 

“Hey sweetheart! How are you?” Diana shouted from the other end. Did the woman never run out of energy? Carla wondered and put the phone a little bit away from her ear to avoid a sore one later. 

Hi Diana, I’m fine and you?” Carla asked politely. Liam looked up at the mention of his mother’s name. He sighed, why should she call so early in the morning? He sighed again. He watched Carla’s face intently, thinking she looked weak and tired. 

*I’m good too baby, hope you don’t mind me calling you so early in morning?” Diana asked. 

Carla shook her head slightly even though she knew Diana couldn’t see her “Not at all Diana, we woke up hours ago “She lied and forced a little laugh up her throat but Liam knew it was forced because the minute her lips stretched into a smile, she winced. 

*You guys woke up hours ago, is there something wrong? It’s way too early if you guys woke up even some hours ago Diana said thoughtfully. 

“Uh… “Carla looked at loss for words. She looked over to Liam for help but he shrugged, as if to say he had no idea what she was talking about. 

“It’s nothing, Diana” She lied but it felt awkward. 

“Um.. Diana, can we see?” She asked anxiously. 

Diana laughed “That’s exactly why I called dear, when will you have time?” 

“How about in the evening?” Carla suggested wide eyed. 

*Today? Like a dinner date??” Diana asked excitedly
