Chapter 11 

“Hey girlfriend, how was your first day at work?” It was Jenny. She called her the minute she got home. 

Carla sighed “It was okay. Guess what?” 

Jenny groaned “Oh don’t start, you know I’m not good at this ” 

Carla laughed * All the more reason to get good at it 

“I will but not now, so what’s up?” Jenny asked eagerly. 

Carla took a deep breath” Well, I… I’m going on a date with Liam tonight” She blurted out and put the phone away from her ear a little when Jenny screamed. Oh my poor ear, she thought. It was going to be pretty sore the next morning, she was 

sure. 

“What??!” Jenny screeched. 

“I’m going on a date with Liam tonight Carla repeated in the same words, with the same calm tone. 

“Of course I heard you the first time! I’m just very surprised! How?! How did it get to that?!” Jenny exclaimed. 

Calm down while I explain, will you?” Carla said and sighed. 

Okay shoot” Jenny conceded but her voice was still louder than normal. 

Carla overlooked that and explained everything in a calm tone, not leaving any incident out. 

“Whoa! This is so unexpected! “Jenny exclaimed again when Carla was done explaining it to her. 

“I know right?” Carla said as she waited for Jenny’s I Told You So which came shortly after. 

“I told you, didn’t I?! I warned you to be careful with Liam, didn’t I?!” Jenny shouted over the phone. 

*I had no choice, Jenny, it seemed I was his last hope and it’s not a real thing, just play his girlfriend, that’s all * Carla explained quietly. 

“Well, there’s nothing bad if you become his real girlfriend Jenny mused. 

Jenny! Carla snapped. 

“What? I’m only speculating, that’s all ” Jenny sounded undeterred. 

“Don’t speculate anything! I just agreed to his fake girlfriend because he was in a real tight spot and I was his last hope Carla said in a loud voice. 

Okay okay, I’ve heard you Jenny said in a surrendering tone. 

So what’s up now?” She asked. 

Carla sighed at that “I don’t know honestly,. On one way, I wanna call him and cancel and on the other way, I wanna go ” 

“You’ll go to the dinner, babe. Just be careful not to fall for Liam, I heard he’s pretty irresistible” Jenny said and laughed at little. 

Carla glared at the door” That will never happen 

Don’t be so sure” Jenny said with a tone of mischief. 

Carla rolled her eyes We shall see, won’t we?” 

Of course, the next thing I’d hear is, you’ve decided to get married to Liam because you’re in love with each other ” Jenny mused and laughed. 

* Jennifer Wills” Carla said in a low, threatening voice. 

Sorry! Sorry! Jenny shouted and laughed the more. 

So what time is the dinner and when is he coming to pick you up?” Jenny said in a quite serious voice. 

Carla sighed ” The dinner is half past seven and he’s picking me up at exactly half past six, I have less than three hours to get ready and I haven’t even picked out a dress yet” 

Gotcha, you know what? Jenny asked and took a pause. 

What?” Carla asked warily. 

Jenny laughed Come on, you don’t have to sound so tensed” 

Carla practically rolled her eyes at Jenny’s attempt to put her at ease. With Jenny, one could never be sure. She was very unpredictable and could turn the tables in seconds. 

“Well?” She asked when Jenny didn’t say anything. 

“Okay, just take a shower, okay? I’ll be with you before you know it” Jenny offered with a wide grin. 

“You’re coming over? Why?” Carla asked with a raised eyebrow. 

*To help you get dressed of course!” Jenny exclaimed. 

Carla started to speak” Jenny, I’m… “But she was cut off by Jenny who had anticipated her protest even before she started to speak. 

“You get on in the shower and I’ll be there in minutes, love you!” She said and hung up, leaving Carla speechless. 

Carla sighed, nothing could really stopped Jenny when her mind was set on something. She proceeded to shower and Jenny showed up just exactly fifteen minutes later. 

By the time Jenny was done with her makeover, she failed to recognize the stunning beauty in the mirror staring back at her. Was it really her? She asked herself. Sure, she knew she was beautiful but she doubted it was really her as she looked at the beauty goddess in the mirror. 

Jenny whistled from behind her ” Finally gurl! You look so stunning I almost didn’t recognize you!” 

She gestured for Carla to spin around but was ignored by Carla who just rolled her eyes and stared back in the mirror. 

“I know I’m good at this, right? You’re welcome” Jenny said smugly from behind her as they looked in the mirror together. She flipped her hair backwards and Carla thought she was being dramatic. 

“Oh don’t be full of yourself, I’ve seen better” Carla huffed with a roll of her eyeballs. 

Jenny repeated her action and roll her eyes too” Coming from someone who had never been to a social gathering since I knew her, much more a dinner party of the high class people in the society” 

“It’s not a dinner party, dummy, It’s a small family dinner. I’ve been to a club once just so you know, and even had a one night stand” Carla fired back, her eyes blazing. 

Jenny laughed so much that she almost toppled over the floor. She finally managed to get a hold of herself and looked at Carla, a haughty expression evident on her face.
