The Axelridge Series Book 3 Marc's Stolen Heart

Chapter 50 THE END

(Chapter song ‘Top O' The Morning’ by House Of Pain)

GRIFFIN

“Alright, lads! Give ‘em hell!” I yell as I run up the pitch.

I stop and lean on my knees. I’m watching the LA Galaxy player hold the soccer ball and look for a play.

He throws it out and the field breaks into a run.

His teammate drops the ball down his chest and kicks it to another.

He travels up the grass as he tries to defend against us, but us Axelridge Bulldogs, brought our game today.

“MAN-ON!”

The crowd yells as the Galaxy player is surrounded by Bulldogs.

I run into his space and try to kick it out. He tackles it and kicks it away.

“Fecking, nancy!” I growl and chase ball to the next player.

The player stops the ball with is cleat and we surround him.

He eyes us all and tries to run around.

“Don’t think so, lad.” I smirk.

I run up from his right and drop to my hip just as he goes to kick. My toe hits the ball and it flies across the center line toward their goal.

He growls and I get up. “Awe. Be a pretty sport, ya?” I chuckle and run off as my team passes the ball up the pitch.

The Bulldogs enter the attacking zone and the ball is passed to me. I stop the ball and the Galaxy players ready themselves for my attempt on goal.

They run at me and I kick the ball between their legs, deke around them and pick up the ball.

The crowd yells louder as the goalie readies himself.

I come from the left, kick, but hit the ball with my heel, switch feet and kick to the left.

The ball flies and he dives, his white gloves miss the ball and it hits net.

The audience explodes as the scoreboard of my pitch changes from 2-4 to 2-5.

“That’s how it’s done, lads!” I yell as the ball is tossed out.

The Galaxy players shake their heads.

I stand in my forward position and wait for the kick off.

The Galaxy forward kicks the ball and we break.

I stop the ball with my thigh then control it as I run then pass to my midfielder, Avery. He passes it to Mitch, and he runs. A defender moves on him and he kicks it back and around. The defender tries to steal and Mitch traps it.

“OPEN!” I yell as I run.

He fakes the defender out then passes. I catch it and dribble up the pitch.

We cross the line and I line up.

“BRUIT!” I yell.

He runs and I kick. He doesn’t even hesitate. He hops and pulls back for a huge goal kick. The ball hits inside the top of the net and the fans lose it.

We yell and jump at him as he laughs.

The clock stops with 5 seconds on the clock and the score sits at 2-6

I place my hand to the side of my mouth. “JUST BLOW IT UP!”

The rest of my team all yell the same at the ref as he smiles and shakes his head from the sideline.

He blows his whistle signaling the end of the last quarter and we all hoot and holler.

The Axelridge Bulldogs stadium shakes as fans scream and cheer.

I thought it would be at least a year before I heard that sound, but in a mere 6 months, my stadium was repaired and we just won our first game since the quake.

I stop and watch my team say good game to the Galaxy players and I look to sun shining above my head. “This one’s for ya, Ed. Wherever ye be.” I sigh and lower my head.

My brows cinch and my lips shrink as I watch water pool around my cleat.

I follow it and on the other side of the bench, I see a wet patch of grass.

I step over the bench and walk to a large puddle about 2 inches deep and three feet wide. It’s growing.

“Aye…What’s this shite, now.” I turn to the team. “Oi! The pipes be banjaxed! The pitch is flooded!”

Avery looks over at me. “Say what?”

“Move yer arse! The pipes broke!” I yell back.

I place my hands on my hips and walk into the puddle. “Hang on.”

I bend over and see a small bubbling of water in the center. “Bollix.” I grumble. This will shut us down to repair.

The water spurts up a few times then dies down. I kick mud at it try to plug it.

“Griff, what are you doing?” Avery chuckles.

I smile as the water stops bubbling up. “I think I mended it.”

The ground vibrates and I look to the spot. Like someone had a water blaster in the grass, a thin column of water blast me in the face, I fly backwards and hit the ground on my back.

I cough and sputter as I try to get my air back. I feel like I’ve been blown up.

I groan as I sit up and hold the back of my head. I wipe the water off my face and blink my eyes a few times.

I look up and all my team looks like they’re fishing for flies. “Aye. What you on about?” I scowl.

It takes me a second to realize my voice was echoed.

Avery raises a hand and points to my side.

I slowly turn my head and freeze. My face fills with shock and so does my other face.

I raise a hand to my cheek then reach out to the body that’s next to me. I poke his chest and swallow. He feels real and I watch as he looks down and rubs the spot.

“Sweet Mary and Joseph.” We both say.

Messy curly blonde hair, blue eyes and sun-kissed skin, I start to hyperventilate. I’m staring at me!

I look at my team then back to my double.

“This is a problem.” We both say at the same time and my eyes roll back in my head.

I fall to my back and everything goes black.
