The Assassin’s Mate

Chapter Fleeing

"Olivia? They thought you were dead, that you and your father were killed."

"I escaped. But I didn't know it was my father who had broken in because if I did I never would have ran." She said as she looked down at her feet.

"But why didn't you go back home? They were so worried about you. HE was worried about you."

"I was afraid they would try to find me and kill everyone else. He is an evil man, Li, and he is extremely powerful."

"Who is he, Olivia?"

"I don't know his name. He always made me call him Majesty. But I still remember what he looks like and I'll never forget his voice. It haunts my dreams at night." I watched as her eyes grew cold and she shuddered at the horrible memories.

After a few moments of silence I asked "Do you remember where his home was?"

She closed her eyes and nodded her head. I knew bringing back these memories would hurt her but if this operation was going to be shutdown we had to start from the top. And fortunately, Olivia knew exactly who we were looking for. But we would need reinforcements for this kind of mission, which is why we needed to get in touch with Romero.

"Olivia, how far is the nearest airport?" I asked her as I began shuffling around her place, grabbing anything that I thought we could pawn for a couple of airplane tickets.

She looked at me with a confused look and said "Probably 20 miles from here. I don't really know I've only ever stayed in this cave for the last 6 months. What are you doing?" She asked as I rummaged through her things.

"We need money for tickets and unless you have some stashed in a rock safe somewhere, we need to pawn some stuff to get it. I know a place we can go. We will be safe and we can get help."

She grabbed my hand stopping me from placing her trinkets in a pillowcase when she said "Well as much as I'd like to redecorate this place, I don't think we will get much money for any of this stuff. Follow me." She walked into the darkness of the cave as I followed closely behind her.

There was a small hole that she crawled through then came right back out with a large duffle bag. She picked it up and walked back to the area where she slept and threw it down on the ground. I eyed her as she opened it and nearly passed out when I saw the large stacks of cash they had laying in it.

"I took this from the house before I left. I figured I could use it to buy food and clothes. Turns out there's way more than I'll ever need." She pulled a stack out then shoved some clothes into it before she handed me a long sleeve shirt and some shorts.

I gladly accepted the garments slipping them on as she grabbed a few snacks and zipped the bag up.

"Ok let's go." She said as she slung the bag over her shoulder and walked out the cave. "We've only got about 3 more hours before daylight so I suggest we get where we need to go by shifting then when we get closer to town we shift back and buy our tickets at the airport."

I nodded annoyingly, she could have said that before I got dressed. I took my clothes off again, placing them in the bag, and immediately my bones started breaking and my beautiful wolf emerged. I stood there shaking my fur out when I noticed her staring at me. I tilted my head at her in confusion.

"You're so beautiful! And big. What are you?" I smirked and trotted off waiting for her to do the same.

She shifted into a smaller brown and gold wolf then walked up besides me. We ran to the Lake Country Airport in Oregon. It took a while and with the daylight slowly peaking over the horizon we had to be quick. Once we made it about 5 miles from town we shifted back and walked the rest of the way. We were dirty and smelt like musk but we needed to get out of here fast. I knew the flight back to Montana would take a few hours so we could definitely sleep on the plane. I should have called Romero before we left but as soon as we got our tickets the plane was boarding.

We sat in our seats and Olivia kept her duffel bag under her feet. She glanced at me nervously then put her safety belt on and waited to take off. I thought about everything she had been through but it gave me so much hope that she would be much happier once she made it home. I thought about Tanner and how much they resembled each other. They had the same beautiful dark hair and chocolate brown eyes and even the same olive toned skin.

I carefully picked up the sleeve of my shirt and looked at the ink on my arm. My heart constricted making me loose my breath. How could this have happened? Surely the Moon Goddess made a mistake. I can't be his mate let alone the queen. I rolled my sleeves down and leaned my head back against the seat and closed my eyes. I felt the plane take off and soon I was drifting off to sleep.

I was shaken awake when the plane landed in Montana. I was nervous to see Romero and hoped he wouldn't be disappointed in me for not completing my mission but the further away I got from him the safer he was. I just hoped Julius doesn't hear about this any time soon, I get the feeling he isn't a very patient man and probably doesn't take too kindly to people who don't follow through with their promises. I still didn't understand the reasoning behind his intentions to kill the King and that never sat well with me. I mean none of the wolves I came into contact with seemed evil like he said but he did have a lot of incriminating evidence against them.

The flight attendant ushered us off the plane and we went straight to the cabs outside. I asked them to drop us off in town then explained to Olivia that we needed to be as discreet as possible.

"Where are we going?" She asked with uncertainty in her eyes.

"My pack." I said as we walked to the Glacier National Park.

Her eyes twinkled nervously but I could tell she felt comfortable and once we made it into the woods we shifted and took off to Rising Wolf Mountain, my home. We finally made it after a 20 minutes run and once we made it across the border we shifted back.

"No one will hurt you here, but I need you to promise me that you will never tell anyone about this place." I said with a stern look flashing my wolfs eyes so she would understand me.

She quickly said "I promise, Li."

Then we walked side by side through the training grounds and I chuckled as she realized how big and strong our pack was and I wondered if she noticed all our similarities.

"No way! You're a Lycan?" Her mouth was damn near touching the ground and in that moment I felt such pride in who I really was, even if I didn't fully know everything yet.
