Short chapter, but important!

Kai'ine
She has actively dyed the white, traditional, clothes in the most vibrant colors I have ever seen. She runs around happily in them, proud of her work.
Today was yet another rainbow blast running past me, heading out to train with the twins.
She had mustard-colored trousers, a burgundy shirt and a very pink robe. She called it fashion, I am not so sure.
‘’Shoes!’’ I call after her.
The days were growing colder, and I will not let her loose a few toes to the cold.
An annoyed groan leaves her mouth as she runs back upstairs to get some shoes. She flies out the patio door, now in shoes.
Good.
As they train, I head upstairs to the office. Well, it was books scattered everywhere on the floor. Making the entirety of my office area a complete mess.
Her spot.
This seemed more like her office, rather than mine.
I shake my head as I tiptoe my way around to get to my desk. I have been spending most days at home, since I brought Mai’yri here.
She enjoyed solitary, did not like crowds. I could bring her with me to the Flint Castle in the capitol, but it will only lead to hassle.
For both of us.
Besides, I quite enjoyed the peace and quiet of my own home, too.
My siblings were here with us, too. Zuuri is really smitten by her and she’s growing on Zuki.
Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine Zuki to enjoy the company of a human. By her own free will.
And yet, here we are.
The glassed villa seemed livelier now. Not just a glassed home in the middle of nowhere, with me as the only resident.
The little Viking made a lot of noise, brought life to it. She scattered her things everywhere, and if I touched it, she got really angry.
To her, this was completely organized.
She did not like change. She liked to be her own boss. Got really anxious whenever I pushed her into a corner, and she having to give up her own will to follow mine.
She hated that.
We have been getting along nicely over the last few weeks. She seems to have gotten used to my presence, and I hers. I think I know her habits in and out, by now.
She will, of course, refuse this.
She likes to stay up late and sleep in. She’s rarely bored, always doing something. Always hungry.
That metabolism of hers was insane.
Freakishly cold feet at night. Whenever frustrated, she rubs the spot between her eyebrows. Clever, outspoken and needed music to drown out her own thoughts.
She had loud thoughts.
I cannot read minds, but she was like an open book. I can always see when her brain is thinking too loudly. She freezes up a little, spacing out. Her earlier trauma gives her panic attacks if pushed too far into basic instinctual reactions.
I shake my head, trying to concentrate on work, and not on the human girl training in the back yard.
***
I hear the patio door close. She shuffles a little. Removing her shoes. Her bare feet padding against the marbled floors. She passes me, as she heads for the bathroom. Nose and cheeks red.
Cold.
A loud scream escapes her mouth as she runs back down to the second floor. Looks at me with wide eyes.
Alerted, I walk over to her.
’’You never told me that you have your own, disgusting, type of spiders!’’ she hisses and points to the bedroom. ‘’That thing is the size of a Guinea pig! With hair!’’.
She does not like, what they call, spiders. Noted.
I head up to the bedroom, looking for the mou.
It hisses at me as I near it.
‘’It hisses as well! What the fuck Kaine!’’ she groans as she clings to the doorway.
‘’These are called mou. Not poisonous for me, but quite lethal for you,’’ I explain as I pick it up by one of his twelve haired feet.
It snaps it jaws at me. Trying to bite.
I chuck it out the window.
She gags. ‘’That’s the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen,’’ she say as she scans the room for more.
I chuckle. ‘’They live in solitude,’’
She makes a weird facial expression as she walks into the bathroom, shutting the door.
Shaking my head once again, I head back down to the office.
I nearly leap out of my own skin the second loud vibrations shake through the house.
Mai’yri runs down to the office, hair still wet. ‘’You never told me you have speakers this loud, either!’’ she says happily. Blaring noisy human music through them.
My ears twitch.
’’That shit cray,’’ she shouts to the music. ‘’Come and meet me in the bathroom staaaall,’’ she drawls out as she walks back up to the bathroom. ‘’What’s Louie my killa? What’s drugs my deala?’’.
I close my eyes. Am I going to let her listen to this loud music?
Probably.
Do I enjoy it? Not one bit. By the time she heads back downstairs, another loud sound is blaring. She likes this one better, I note, as she hums to the lyrics more.
’’I wish that I did not know, where all broken lovers go. I wish that my heart was made of stone!’’ she repeats as she dances her way down to the kitchen. ’’Yeah, if I was bulletproof, I’d love you like a jewel, yeah if I was solid like jewel,’’.
I cannot help but laugh. If it only takes a few books, some colorful clothes, food and music to get her this happy, why haven’t I thought of this before?
’’I’d walk straight to the bullet, bleeding like a tulip, blue-eyed and foolish, never mind the bruises. Into the fire, breaking through the wire. Give you all I’ve got, if I had a diamond heart,’’.
This is also one of the first song that is not like deathly angry. The songs that she usually listens to.
By the time I head downstairs, she’s twirling around in the kitchen, making herself dinner. She opens the fridge, and a look of pure joy crosses her eyes, forgetting the song. She pulls out a can of soda and look at it like it is a god.
‘’Where did you get this?’’ she asks.
‘’They have been there since you got here,’’ I answer truthfully. ‘’Humans tend to enjoy fizzy drinks that slowly kills their brain cells,’’ I shrug.
‘’You’re correct,’’ she states as she opens the can. Closing her eyes at the sound of it.
The black fizzy drinks with additives and no sugar. Noted.
Another song blares through the speakers. The last one, I decide.
She cringes slightly.
‘’Don’t judge me for this one,’’ she mutter as she – and I am not joking – full blown gets into this song.
It’s nothing like what she usually listens to. This is way, way worse.
‘’Looked up across the smoke filled room, felt the tension build. This night has only just begun! So here we go!’’.
Oh god.
This is the worst song I have ever heard in my entire life. Human music was never my thing, but this is my least favorite genre of all.
’’Bring out the guns, we love the danger. One, two, three just pull the trigger!’’.
I literally cannot.
She continues to chant this awful music and I just cannot do it. I have to turn it off. I do not even bother trying to mask the use of matter. I inhale and the music stops by the second.
She turns to face me.
‘’I apologize,’’ I say. ’’But that was the worst thing I have ever heard,’’.
A laugh leaves her mouth. ’’So no Tungevaag for you,’’ she laughs. ‘’What do you like, then?’’
‘’Apparently everything that you do not listen to,’’ I answer with a chuckle. ‘’Human music is … weird. There are few tunes I like,’’ I explain as she sits down to eat her dinner.
‘’To be honest, music like the way you know it, is not a big part of our culture. Only special ceremonies have traditional instruments, but nothing more than that,’’.
She looks mortified. ‘’But music is the thing that connects people, other than religion. It’s cultural heritage in every way,’’ she says.
‘’Not to us,’’ I smile.
‘’Weird beings,’’ she says with a shake of her head.
‘’We leave for Zone three tonight,’’ I say after a few moments of comfortable silence. ‘’It will take a few hours, but you can sleep on the ship, if you want,’’.
She looks up from her food. ‘’Do I have to wear white?’’ she asks.
I nod once.
She sighs. ‘’When do we have to leave?’’ she asks as she places the plate in the sink.
‘’Two hours or so,’’ I answer. ‘’Your hair needs to be braided before we leave,’’ I state.
‘’Go and change into regal clothing, I’ll be up in a minute to braid your hair,’’
She looks annoyed but walk away without another word.
I nearly jump out of my own skin, again, as the music starts blaring. An angry song this time.
Such a dramatic girl.
‘’Mai’yri,’’ I call.
We will not take this anymore,
These words will never be ignored,
You want a battle? Here’s a war!
Galaxies. How can this be called music? They are literally screaming.
I turn it off quickly, not being physically able to handle the noise.
She has a mischievous smile on her mouth when I get up the stairs. Seated on the bed, waiting for me.
Yeah, right.
‘’Your taste in music is terrible,’’ I state as I sit down behind her and start braiding her hair. Attaching golden chains with the same blue gemstones that is on her ring.
Same as mine.
When I finish, I tug at her hair gently, so that her head cranes backwards. Our foreheads touch. The inner voice of her thoughts rush through my body, as silent whispers. Her emotions.
I close my eyes in delight. A way of intimacy and at the same time I consume her energy in small bits. Unnoticeable for her.
I release the grasp on her braid, and she pulls away immediately.
‘’Time to go,’’ I say as I get up.
‘’What did you do?’’ she asks accusingly as she gets up.
‘’Leaped through your mind,’’ I shrug.
She frown and open her mouth to say something.
‘’How do you feel?’’ I ask, before she can yell at me.
She look taken back.
‘’Angry,’’ she says as she crosses her arms.
‘’How does your mind feel?’’ I ask, daring her to lie.
‘’Silent,’’ she answers silently after a few seconds of a stare-down.
‘’Exactly,’’ I state as I walk down the stairs.
When she finally decides to come down, probably sulking, I usher her outside and on to the ship. My siblings already there, waiting for us.
