The Alpha's Mate Is A Spy

Chapter 25: Petty Punishment

* RYAN'S POV*

"Ryan, you're coming with me at the Great Five Pack's meeting. Make sure to get everything prepared by then."

I was sorting out the files on the shelves, that I almost dropped one when he said that. Puzzled, I walked towards Alpha Shaka's desk. "Where's beta Riley?"

"He's out on a mission, so he can't come. You're the only one left in your brothers that I can trust. What is it? you don't want to come?"

"It's not that.." I heaved a sigh, "I'm more curious why you're going to the great five pack's meeting when we're not even one of the five?"

SunDale is neutral as much as I know since I've grown up in this place. I know very well that there weren't many interactions that SunDale allowed with the rest of the world. Nevertheless, we're not isolated either. It's merely that SunDale doesn't have any conflicts nor a significant relationship with other packs.

"I'm curious too." Alpha Shaka taps on the surface of his desk. "The weirdest thing was it was Crescent Moon who requested our presence."

My eyes widened in surprise, "They did?!"

"Anyway, we don't need to be worried about the other packs to disturb us. After all, the meeting was called for due to Crescent Moon's recent offense of mass slaughter. The packs just wanted to see the werewolves who survived the difficult test."

"So? You're saying that it's basically showing off?"

He nods, "Yes,... or it may be because he wants to confirm Venus's identity. Ultimately, we did let Venus reveal some parts of her real background to secure a solid profile in her mission."

I frowned. For me, the latter part was more believable. Crescent Moon didn't need to show off their strength against us- so he's definitely after Venus.

"Can't we take her back? I don't trust that guy won't hurt our Venus. I've heard several rumors about him. They said no one ever saw him with a woman before. Even a famous actress was rejected in his presence. I mean, it's fine to be loyal to your mate, but as an alpha, I'm sure the desire to have sex is on a whole other level. It's normal for alphas to have hookups before they found their mate." Alpha Shaka sighs, "Look kid, you're not the only one worried. I'm also worried that runt may hurt our little girl."

He grabs the portrait on his desk. It was the portrait of Venus when she first hunted a boar. With her small frame, no one would've believed the story. She didn't even know how to smile yet. Her grin was upside down.

I'm really worried.

"... It's been four months alpha, she hasn't even sent a single report back. Is she really okay there?"

"She is. You know Crescent moon, they have a history of traitors, that's why they're more careful than other packs. She's probably trying to avoid suspicion."

"I'm just worried though they're mates, but isn't she hiding her mate presence- Wait... WHAT?!" I gasped when I realized it. "Alpha! The blood pact! won't she get marked at that moment?!"

"It's inevitable."

"What? So you're saying... you let them start the mating process?!"

"Shut up. Venus isn't like that. The oracle said that Venus wouldn't feel the effects of having mates due to her half-identity. On the other hand, I doubt alpha Derek would yield to the temptation so easily. He doesn't even know their mates."

I have a headache. How can he even resist temptation?! he's an alpha, for pete's sake!

I sighed in frustration, "Just what exactly did the oracle say, alpha?"

"She says..." He trails off, "..that Venus and Derek are mates. And she also told me about Venus's inability to feel the effects of having a mate."

"That's all?" I choked. "So you really were planning to send her there?"

"No." he says firmly, "The truth is, I really didn't want to send her to Crescent Moon for a mission. It would be better to let them meet formally. But Venus was too stubborn. She didn't even let me clarify things and went off on her own. Still, when I watched her leave with my own two eyes, I couldn't help but feel that it was destined to happen. Stopping her would just make things difficult for her, and I didn't want that."

* VENUS's POV*

Me? Regret it? Why would I regret something that'll prolong my life? I pondered.

It's been several hours since he warned me not to get too close to him, yet I still find it confusing why he kept on rejecting me at this point. I gazed at his side, his focus fixated, as he talked to one of the werewolves in front of him.

I mean, isn't he feeling the intense arousal between mates?

I really don't get relationships.

"Venus,"

I batted an eyelid, "Yes, Alpha?"

"Go to the main kitchen today. We just ran out of food supply in our place. Tell them to double the amount."

I didn't even notice that it was only us left in his office. I saw the clock hanging just by the door and saw that it was already time for dinner.

So that's why he asked. I cleared my throat. "Double the amount? is there an occasion that I'm not aware of?"

He scoffs, "No, someone likes emptying the supplies before the deadline. I wonder who it is?"

It's definitely me.

"It's me?"

"Who else? Stupid." He puffs annoyingly. He stood up from his seat and walked toward me. Then he lifted his finger before aggressively dabbing me on the forehead. Startled, I almost lost balance. I winced in pain, "Ouch, what was that for?!"

"It's your punishment for disrespecting me."

"You-"

He does it again.

"Stop it! What is it now?!" I hissed and took a step back.

"This time, you almost disrespected me so I did it." he grins evilly, "It's Alpha Derek, not 'you' Got that?"

I felt my patience towards him crumble to pieces. I knew that he was getting back at me for flirting with him earlier, to think that he was too petty to resort to this behavior.

I underestimated him.

I forcefully smiled. The itching sensation to punch him in the face made my hand tremble, but I held it in to avoid trouble.

I'll get him back later!

"Yes, Alpha,"

"Good, now don't even think about wandering for too long. Once you get the supplies, report back immediately to me. okay?"

"Tsk, it's just grabbing some supplies, so what could possibly go wrong?" I murmured under my breath. Though he heard it, he just dismissed it and passed by me. Once his scent totally disappeared from my range, I took a huge sigh of irritation.

"If this weren't a mission, I would've already kicked him in the ass."
