Chapter 9| Curiosity Killed the Cat, or the Wolf
This woman - I shook my head at her. Did she have no self-preservation? If anyone else was in her place... But of course, she just had to be an Omega.
'Should I just put her into one of my cells, just like I did with anyone who disrespected me?'
I took one look at her, and maybe I could let it slip this once. We wouldn't cross paths again after all. If what I suspected was wrong, that is. If it was right, well, for her sake, I hoped it wasn't.
"You are not going anywhere until you answer my questions. Nobody would miss your presence, and no one would question my absence."
The glare she gave me could melt a thousand glaciers.
"I just told you that my best friend would be looking for me." Daniel let out a snort at her words.
"The one that left you after her boyfriend waved her over?"
"It's her future mate, of course she went!" She yelled, making us both flinch. A small smirk appeared on her face. "If you don't let me go, I'll scream this place down. Let's see how long your super-sensitive Lycan ears last. I should've just done this earlier."
"Then I will just have to stop being courteous and tie you up, then gag you," I said, unamused.
"Ooh! Kinky." She wiggled her eyebrows at me. I frowned as Daniel tried hard not to laugh. Why did he always have to pick the weird ones? Ash's golden eyes were shining with mischievousness.
She looked terrified and determined first, determined to get out of our clutches alive. But now, she just looked like she was having fun.
'Is this all just a game to her?'
She was an Omega. Even if what she said about her senses were true, no Omega would be this confident. I thought getting answers from her would satisfy my curiosity, but it only raised more questions.
Her amusement soon faded as she realized I was observing her. Curiosity seeped into her eyes. It was evident she was just as curious about me as I was about her. I was also different from other Lycans after all, but nobody paid enough attention to notice it as they were too busy running away.
"You have stopped trying to run away. You are curious about me? Aren't you?" Her face morphed into one of surprise, then she shrugged.
"I do want to run away. But I guess my curiosity always gets the better of me."
"Curiosity killed the cat," Daniel remarked. She grinned at him.
"Well, I'm a wolf, so I should be fine." I fought back a smile.
I took a step forward towards her.
"How about this? I will answer one of your questions if you tell me why you applied that foul thing on yourself." Daniel's jaw dropped in surprise.
"Alpha-" I raised an eyebrow at him.
"Nevermind," he mumbled. Ash looked me straight in the eyes.
"No, thank you. What's to say you won't kill me after you tell me something?"
"If I wanted to kill you, you would be dead by now. I am not a fan of wasting my time," I replied dryly.
"I would've totally believed that if you weren't participating in this shitshow," she muttered distastefully. So she did believe that it was a waste of time. Why did this realization make me happy?
"Okay, you'll let go of me as soon as I tell why I've applied this foul-smelling concoction on me, right?"
Daniel and I nodded in unison. The crazy female finally got it. She looked at me skeptically.
"Seriously? No strings attached? It just seems..." She trailed off, biting her lips. My hands itched to touch them.
"Too good to be true?" Daniel filled in helpfully. Ash rolled her eyes at him.
"It seems too silly to be true." I winced at her reply. It did seem that way, but I really was curious.
"I give you my word to let you go without any harm."
She looked at me for a moment, then nodded.
"I will tell you. But you'll have to answer me first. And I'm not really curious about your aura. I don't want to know about it."
"You don't?" Daniel asked in disbelief. I barely restrained myself from asking that as well. She shook her head.
"I do want to know how you're so level-headed though. There's something very different about you, and your aura's just part of it, isn't it?" She tilted her head and took a step forward towards me. I don't think she even realized it.
A doubt crept into my mind. Was she really an Omega? But her heart didn't skip a beat when she admitted it, and I didn't hear a lie in her voice.
"Practice makes perfect," I lied smoothly, hoping she took the bait. She smirked.
"You're lying."
Ah, she finally slipped up. I smiled.
"And how can an Omega hear a lie?"
She simply gave me a lazy smile.
"Alpha Zak, you and I both know that no amount of practice could make a Lycan, an Alpha one at that, less volatile. And you... You seem to have an endless amount of patience. So either you're lying, or something is very wrong with you, just like me." She grinned.
Daniel went ashen at this. I myself was not holding up well. I have been an Alpha Superior for six years now. I had received so many threats that I lost count of them at some point. But never had I been this rattled.
'How is she able to know all of this?'
Something was telling me that I should have just left her alone. Curiosity killed the cat, after all. I took a deep breath. There was no point in stalling after this. It was time to reveal the real reason I brought her here. I stared straight into her golden eyes.
"Ashley Diamante, who exactly are you?”
