Chapter 69: Ky’s not forgiving!
When they entered the kitchen, Lydia’s eyes widened, she went to hug Dax, but Damon stopped her. He shook his head and they walked down the corridor to the office. The doctor was waiting there for them, he immediately set about stabilizing her arm in a sling he tied around her, his face set in a grim line, when he saw the swelling on her cheek, a low rumble released from him when he saw the blood on her back. Then he turned to Damon.
“She needs to be brought back immediately.” Damon nodded his head but never said a word as the doctor left the office. Carter dragged Lacey into the office and pushed her into a chair on the far side of the room. Dax stood on the opposite side, she didn’t look directly at Lacey, but she didn’t let her out of her sight either. Stupid bitch! We shouldn’t have left the medical ward! Stupid jealous bitch! This is all our fault! This is her fault! We shouldn’t have left! She attacked us! We’re to blame! We did nothing wrong, we just wanted to talk! We shouldn’t have! And just let her treat us like that! Look where we are now, big trouble! We tried to walk away! The closer Kane got to the house, the more anger she felt coming from him. So much trouble! She attacked us! We growled at her! She growled at us first…..twice! We didn’t stay out of trouble! We didn’t even hit her back! That’s his sister! Her wolf couldn’t even argue with that. Didn’t matter who started it, it wasn’t going to matter that she tried to walk away or that she didn’t hit her back. It didn’t even matter that they were in a fight and Kane was mad at her, that was his sister, his only sister. Lacey was right she came first, and Dax fucked up.
Damon told Carter to wait outside the office for Kane and the others. He could see the look on Carter’s face, he knew what he wanted to ask, he shrugged his shoulders and shook his head. He didn’t have any answers this time, he didn’t know how this was gonna go. The closer Kane got to the house the stronger his anger became.
“You better hope your brother can keep control over his beast. Ky’s not forgiving.” Damon said to Lacey.
“What about her? You heard what she said to me. You heard the growl that came from her, she threatened me. She would have ripped me to shreds if she wasn’t so weak.” Lacey spit back at him.
“Shut up Lacey! I heard what she said, but I also heard what you said. You’re big mouth started this” Damon fired back,
“You can’t tell me to shut up, I’m Beta’s mate and Alpha’s sister. I can say whatever I want. I outrank you Damon.” She snipped in a condescending tone.
“You put your hands on Luna. It doesn’t matter who you are, that’s against pack law” Damon stared back at her.
“I barely touched her. And she’s not Luna yet. We haven’t even done the ceremony, that should tell you something. Maybe Kane’s not so certain about this little imp.” Lacey rolled her eyes, Damon’s eyes got wide
“Are you out of your fucking mind? You stuck up, arrogant fucking princess. Ceremony or not, as soon as an Alpha finds their mate they become Luna and you know that, he marked her. As for barely touching her, you broke her fucking arm!” Damon yelled at her.
“No I didn’t! She’s faking it to get more attention.” Lacey scoffed,
“I heard it snap! What about the swelling on her face? The stitches you ripped in her back? Is she faking that as well?” Lacey’s eyes grew a little wider, she smelled the blood in the air as she took in Dax for the first time. Her cheek was definitely more swollen than it was and she could see her fighting back the pain that was shooting through her arm if she moved it. She licked her lips and her breathing increased, realization setting in at what she had done.
“It was an accident, you were there you saw.” Lacey was starting to get concerned.
“An accident? An accident? You accidentally slapped her? She was trying to get away from you so you “accidentally” snapped her arm to prevent her from leaving. It was no accident, you and I both know it. And I’m going to make sure Kane knows it. Like I said Ky’s not forgiving.” Damon told her his eyes were flashing green.
“Damon you can’t tell him I did it on purpose….Dax say something, you can’t tell him.” Lacey started to beg, panic setting in, she too could feel his anger growing the closer he got to the house.
“You should have thought of that before you intentionally put your hands on Luna.” Damon said to her, a low growl escaping from him.
….grrrRRRrRRrRRRRRrRRrRRRrrrr….
At that time, they heard a deep growl from outside, anger rolling through the house in thick waves. The closer it got the more Lacey panicked. They heard his deep voice outside the office telling Kenneth to question Carter and Johnny to question Marco in separate rooms about the events that happened. Lacey looked from Damon to Dax to the door. As the door opened and Kane was standing there Lacey was at him.
“I can explain, it’s not what it looks like, Dax started it, she came at me first, I defended myself” She began,
“You fucking liar! She didn’t come at you, she went to talk to you, you attacked her.” Damon yelled at Lacey,
“Damon, get out!” Kane ordered,
“Kane, you can’t believe her, she’s lying. Dax never started it” Damon tried to defend Dax.
“GET OUT!” Kane boomed using his Alpha tone on him, forcing Damon to comply with the order.
“If you believe her, then you’re a fool!” Were the last words he spoke before he exited the office slamming the door behind him.
“What the fuck happened?” Kane asked, seething. His teeth clenched and he breathed heavily.
“I was sitting in my spot, minding my own business when she showed up. Asking what was wrong with me? Why I was acting the way I was? Told me not to blame it on being pregnant, but everyone knows pregnancy makes she-wolves crazy. Then she went psychotic and growled at me. Called me spoiled and vapid and jealous. Why would I be jealous of her? I have my own mate who adores me.” Lacey explained, pointing at Dax. She had her back to him, but he could see the sling wrapped around her left side, he could see the blood on her back.
“Turn around and look at me” he growled at her. Her back straightened as her body stiffened, normally she would have ignored him or called him out, but she thought better of it this time. Instead she took a deep breath, swallowing hard she slowly turned around to face him. His eyes widened as he took in her appearance, her left cheek was swollen and her right arm was tightly held to her chest by the sling. She was fighting both her fear, the pain and the sadness gripping at her. Not wanting any of it to show, not wanting to show any sign of weakness. She wasn’t a little mouse, she fucked up and she’d own it.
“Is this true?” He asked,
“Yes! It’s my fault, I shouldn’t have left the medical ward, and I shouldn’t have growled at her.” She tried to stand taller than she felt, keeping her eyes straight forward focused on one spot in front of her. Tried to keep as much emotion out of her voice, her left hand at her side clenched tight in a fist. Her nails dug into her palm to stop from touching her ear, to stop it from shaking. She was sure at this point it was bleeding.
“Did she say anything to you?” Kane asked, his anger was boiling. Lacey’s eyes went wide.
“It doesn’t matter! If I didn’t leave the medical ward then no words would have been exchanged.” She wasn’t even trying to defend herself. Defend yourself, you did nothing wrong!
“This is your chance to explain your side of things. What happened?” He asked her again, the anger in his voice becoming sharper. Kane didn’t miss the small flinch she made or the slight whimper, but she still stood her ground. Why is mate not defending herself? Ky was growing concerned. She is not saying anything! You can’t believe your sister! I only have Lacey’s side! She’s a liar! If you believe Lacey then Damon’s right you’re a fool!
“ANSWER ME!” He yelled, she jumped at the sound whimpering slightly at the jolt of pain it caused. Taking in one sharp shaky breath after another. She clenched her fist at her side tighter though now he could see it trembling. He wished he could just take her in his arms.
“I….I….I sh-should have stayed in the medical ward and left Lacey alone. It’s my fault!” She would not point fingers, she would not shift the blame, she would not throw someone under the bus to save herself. It became clear to him that would be the only answer she would give him, no matter how many times he yelled at her or how angry he was. Why is her face swollen? Who did that to her arm? Did Lacey do that? He could feel Ky getting angry at the thought that Lacey did something to her. She won’t tell me! You don’t know that, ask her! No! But I will ask Damon! Damon won’t lie! He called for two guards through the link. When the knock came to the door, he opened it.
“Take Dax to the medical ward, the doctor is to check her over and then no one other than me enters her room, is that clear?” He gave his orders.
“Yes Alpha!” They bowed and escorted Dax out of the room.
When Lacey thought Kane wasn’t looking, a small victorious smile crossed her face. Kane followed them out and down the corridor to the kitchen, she was hidden behind the first guard, but when Damon saw her his heart dropped.
“Dax!” He called to her, she caught his gaze for a split second, long enough for him to see sadness and something else wash over her, she shook her head and then looked away. Jackie, Seraphine and Lydia watched in horror as the guards marched her out of the kitchen.
“Damon, my office!” Kane turned away, this was breaking his heart. He knew his little mouse, she would never say a word, she would shoulder the burden alone, it was not in her nature to shift the blame. He would have some making up to do after this. If she doesn’t hate us first!
“You’re not having her put in the dungeons are you?” Damon asked, not moving from his spot in the kitchen.
“NOW!” He could feel Damon’s anger growing, but he knew he would obey his Alpha, even if it was to yell at him.
When Damon stepped foot in the office, he almost lost it when he saw Lacey sitting nonchalantly in one of the chairs. He didn’t miss the smug smile she quickly washed off her face when Kane looked in her direction.
“Why the fuck isn’t she in the dungeons?” Damon snapped, glaring at Kane.
“Why should she be in the dungeons?” Kane asked instead,
“She fucking started this. Feisty pants went to talk to her, that was all. Your fucking nutjob of a sister attacked her.” Damon answered, he wasn’t even trying to control his temper. Lacey feigned shock and shook her head.
“So Dax didn’t call her spoiled?” Kane asked,
“She did!” Damon replied,
“She didn’t call her jealous?” Kane questioned,
“Yeah, she did but….” Damon began,
“And that wasn’t her I heard growling on the phone?” Cutting him off with another question.
“It was, but….” Damon was trying to defend her.
“She didn’t start it?” Interrupting him with yet another question. Kane wasn’t letting him finish an answer before he was firing another question at him. It was really starting to piss him off.
“She went to talk to her, ask what the fuck is up with her? Why she’s lying to everyone?” Damon said, gesturing towards Lacey, his anger really starting to show.
“You heard this conversation?” Kane raised his eyebrows.
“Well no, but….” Damon started, his body was rigid, he felt ready to blow his top.
“Then how do you know what Dax said?” Kane looked at him,
“Cause she wouldn’t run away from somebody covering her ears if she started it. She’s not the type to tuck tail and run and you know it.” Damon yelled, anger radiating in his own voice.
“What?” Kane looked at Lacey.
“I may not have been there for the start of it, but I saw the ending. Dax was walking away from her, and Lacey was following after her. Pretty funny for a victim. Did she tell you what she said, or just what Dax did? Did you even ask her what she said to Dax?” Damon asked. Lacey started to shrink back under Kane’s gaze, she shook her head vigorously.
“I am the victim! I was minding my own business when she showed up. Faking concern for me, like she ever actually cared.” Lacey spoke, Kane didn’t miss the quiver in her voice, he could smell the fear coming off of her.
“So she didn’t tell you that she said you would come to your senses and realize how worthless Dax is and get rid of her. Or how Dax should just do us all a favour and leave instead of being selfish and holding onto a family that she’ll never belong to.” The more Damon exposed, the angrier Kane became.
“He’s lying Kane! I would never say something like that, I know what she’s been through, why would I ever say something like that to her. He’s just trying to cover for her. She viciously attacked me.” Lacey said, defending herself. She was borderline hysterical now. Why was Damon doing this to her? He was supposed to love her.
“How about her snapping Dax’s arm, calling her a stupid little bitch who apparently needed reminding of all the things she was told along time ago? Growling at her not once but twice, bringing Camilla to the surface and then smacking her across the face and knocking her to the ground? But right Lacey, you barely touched her. And how could we ever want her as our Luna, she’s weak and will be our downfall. Let me guess she told you none of this.” Damon’s voice oozed disdain and contempt for Lacey.
“She threatened me, I had to defend myself and my baby. She went psychotic, you heard that growl I was terrified, what else was I supposed to do, let her hurt me.” Lacey was on her feet, her heart was racing.
“That growl came after everything you did to her. After you pushed her to that point, not before. You caused it. If you don’t believe me ask Carter and Marco, they witnessed the whole thing” Damon said,
“They’re liars as well. They would do anything to protect her. Poor Lydia, does she know you’re in love with her? And that little slut is probably the only one that could make Carter go straight.” Lacey said, shaking her head. “Kane you have to believe me I did what I had to do.”
“Do you hear yourself? You have no fucking clue what you’re talking about!” Damon snarled, his growl was cut off by another.
It started low but began to build louder and louder. Azure blue flashed in his eyes then disappeared. Another knock to the door.
“Answer that” Kane growled but never took his eyes off Lacey. Damon backed towards the door, never taking his eyes off Kane. When the door was opened four dungeon guards stood there.
“Take her to the dungeons, keep her there until Johnny decides what to do with her.” Kane said, rising to his feet.
“J-J-Johnny?” Lacey asked wide eyed, looking back and forth between Kane and the guards.
“Yes Johnny, your mate, the moron, the one you didn’t want. The one that adored you.” Kane snarled in his reply. “Get her out of here!”
“Yes Alpha!” they bowed, grabbed Lacey by the arms and dragged her from the room.
Damon watched this happen, his mouth dropping open, he listened to Lacey beg and plead to be let go, saying it was a misunderstanding and she was sorry it won’t happen again. She’ll grow up, act like an adult, and take on more responsibility. Kane closed the door to block the sound, Damon just looked at him. He motioned towards one of the chairs, he had some explaining to do.
“After your phone call Johnny told us he felt their bond break this morning. Said he’s been feeling it for a while, he was fighting to keep it together but more recently it was getting too difficult for him to hold on. Lacey has been at him since Sunday dinner to take her side in our fight but he’s refused. Including using their….discussion in the woods against him. He’s told her numerous times he will not go against me, each time making her madder and madder. She called him weak and pathetic and said it’s a good thing she wasn’t in line for the pack because he would be a weak Alpha, but when she broke the art piece he had made for her that was the last straw for him, he let go and stopped fighting. He doesn’t care what happens to her, but the baby is his.” Kane explained as he took his seat across from Damon.
“You knew Dax didn’t do anything?” Damon asked,
“The fact that Lacey didn’t have a mark on her told me Dax didn’t do anything, when she punched Johnny in the throat she bruised him. And unless she has a serious loathing for somebody, she isn’t the type to start something unless she’s defending somebody and she always finishes what she starts. Don’t forget I knew her first.” Kane said,
“So all that was for Lacey?” Damon asked,
“I had to let her think she got a way with it, I knew Dax wouldn’t say anything, she would shoulder the blame and bite back all the pain. She probably thinks she did something to deserve it.” Kane replied, “Kenneth has also been interrogating Carter, while Johnny interrogates Marco. Not one word of their stories have changed and they have told it four times now.” Kane added,
“So you know what Lacey said to her?” Damon asked,
“Just the first part, I didn’t know Lacey told her to leave and to stop clinging to a family that she’ll never belong to. I also didn’t know Lacey did that to her.” Kane said he was a little ashamed.
“Did they tell you about what happened after the scary ass growl ripped from Dax? More specifically what Dax said?” Damon asked, raising his eyebrow. Kane shook his head.
“You should be proud, it was fucking terrifying. Not prepare to die, Ky terrifying, but hit the ground and cover your head terrifying.” Kane gave a crooked smile.
“What did she say?” Kane asked,
“For starters I am not sure it was her talking, she used us, we and our. Told Lacey they didn’t need reminding what was said to them, it runs on a loop in their head. She was telling them things they already knew, and thought.” Damon answered,
“Her wolf came forward?” Kane questioned, his eyes wide.
“Lacey was shocked. It didn’t stay long, just long enough to scare the fuck out of her.” Damon said. “What are you gonna do about her?” He added,
“I don’t know, I doubt she’ll talk to me right now, but I am planning on heading down there soon.” Kane answered,
“Good luck! You’re gonna need it” Damon put emphasis on the last part. He stood up to leave the office then he turned back around to Kane.
“You could have told me, you should have told me what the plan was.” He said to Kane,
“I’m sorry brother, I wanted to, but I needed you angry, almost defiant, mad wouldn’t have been good enough.” Kane replied, Damon nodded.
“Next time tell me, I can still get hella angry” He said, this time Kane nodded and Damon walked out of the office.
