The Alpha King’s Virgin by Charmeleon Chapter 55
Chapter 55
RAINE
The elders requested to see me, concerned about my well–being. They weren’t, of course. They were worried about Amaris and so was I. Sorin and Helen followed them into the office, cramping the space although it was large room.
“Dear Raine, we were so worried about you.” Helen gushed, making her way through the gathering of elders. “Are y
you alright.” Her belly had grown since last I saw her. Was I gone that long?
If I didn’t know better, I would swear she was genuinely concerned the way she hurried over to me and took my hand.
“I am fine, as you can see.” I offered her a smile. But I was far from fine. I needed my mate, and I was tired to the bone.
“It was horrible. Amaris lost his mind when he couldn’t find you.” Helen said, but stopped short when Sorin pulled her back.
“Glad to see you are in good health.” Sorin regarded me with cold blue eyes. “Which is more than I can
say for the king. Where is my brother, Raine?” The accusatory look in his narrowed eyes didn’t escape
- me. How was this my fault?
Elder Mattias stepped forward to speak on my behalf. “Your Highness, the queen has been through an ordeal, maybe we shouldn’t….”
“I am in charge during my brother’s absence, and I have every right to know what happened to him.” Sorin turned to the older man who had no choice but to submit to him. “Amaris wasn’t in his right mind to make any rash and suicidal decisions and look what mess he’s gotten this kingdom into!”
“He couldn’t get to the portal in time, Sorin. He is still in the Vampire Realm.” I met his cold stare, trying my best to not let him see how afraid I was for Amaris.
“Alone? Then we may as well assume he is dead!” Sorin banged his fist on the desk. “I should have Ross executed for this and that witch he brought here.”

“No!” I rose from the chair. I wouldn’t stand for it. Ross was my only chance of getting Amaris back. “Ross followed his king’s orders.” I stepped in front of him, I felt Tasha stirring beneath my skin. “If you have any love for your brother as you claim, you have to send warriors in to find him, Sorin. Amaris won’t give up without a fight. I refuse to believe that he won’t make it.”
“Then you are a fool!” Sorin screamed in my face. “He doesn’t stand a chance against a horde of vampires! Besides, we can’t send warriors into the Vampire Realm without violating the peace treaty.”
“Damn the peace treaty! They’ve already broken it by capturing me, Sorin!” I screamed back at him. He was going to leave his brother to the mercy of the vampires. Maybe he wanted that all along. Our eyes clashed like blades. I wasn’t about to back down.
“Her Majesty has a point.” Elder Jonas interjected. “We have to act now.”
Without breaking our staring contest, Sorin said, “I still have the final say in this, and you should do well to remember that.” He turned on his heel and marched out of the office with Helen following.
A wave of dizziness overcame me and made me sink down into the chair.
“You need to rest, your Majesty. We will speak to Lord Greyson and Beta Ross to arrange a plan of infiltration.” Elder Mattias said, “Do not fear, we will not leave our king unaided.”
I had no strength left to speak so I just nodded, dismissing them. Rhona hurried back into the office to kneel by my side.
“Milady, you’re pale. Come, let me help you to your bed.”
I let Rhona and the others faff over me, bringing me food which I had no appetite for, trying to entertain me with the latest gossip which didn’t interest me, but I let them be. They were doing their best to distract me from worrying over Amaris. Without success because he was all I thought about.
Tried to sleep, but as soon as my eyes closed and I drifted away, I saw Athan’s hawklike face and felt his hands invading my body. There was no peace in sleep for me. I sat up screaming. Rhona was at my side in a flash.

“Milady! What happened?” She mopped my sweaty brow with a damp cloth. “You scared me.”
“Just a bad dream, it’s nothing.” I tried to convince myself. Would I ever be rid of the bad thoughts he planted in my brain? “Is the witch still here at the castle? I would like to see her if it’s possible.”
“Milady, His Highness ordered her to go home.” Rhona looked pained. “But I can try to get her back. She has yet to be compensated for getting you back.” she said, her eyes widening. “Witches can be very dangerous if they’re not paid what’s owed to them.”
Damn Sorin!
“Then you must try, Rhona. I need her to help me.” I was prepared to do anything to get to Amaris.
Rhona agreed. “I will. She is friends with my mother. I will visit her tonight.”
A knock at the door and when Rhona went to open it, Sorin pushed her to the side and stormed into bedroom.
my
“Sorin!” I pulled the covers to my chin.
“Your Highness, you can’t be in here.” Rhona tried to stop him, but he shoved her out of his way.
“Get out, girl!”
She had no choice but to obey.
“This is inappropriate. You can’t just burst in here like this.” I tried my best to sound indignant, but the truth was, I was terrified.
“Really. You’ve been gone for what – a week now? Alone in the Vampire King’s castle with no one to defend your honor.” He sneered and ripped away the covers. “Are you pregnant? The moment I saw you, I noticed your scent has changed.”
I didn’t trust the way he looked at me. I posed a threat to his claim to the throne being pregnant with the rightful heir. There was
no one to help me if he should try to kill me.
“Sorin…” I hated that my voice sounded shaky.

“It’s Athan’s, isn’t it? Tell me, Raine, how you managed to come back unscathed?” His smile was nothing but predatory. “That vampire wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to suck you dry. Unless he had another use for you.”
The humiliation made me cringe back against the headboard. I felt as helpless as I did when I was bullied by the other wolves of my pack. Tears forced their way out of my eyes. My hands gripped the sheets, bracing myself for what he planned to do to me.
He lowered his voice as he loomed over me. “Tell me, did you like it when he you?”
“Your Highness, I suggest you leave the queen’s chambers immediately.” Ross‘ voice lashed out at Sorin.
Sorin turned around to approach Ross with his head held high. He looked down his long nose at Ross. “Well, if it isn’t the queen’s lapdog… Careful, Ross, you look like a jealous lover.” He shouldered past Ross. “We’ll talk more about this later, Raine.”
