When the door slammed shut in my face, Tasha was snarling and scratching desperately at it, until finally I collapsed naked onto the floor, all my rage and energy spent. Exhaustion penetrated my bones. making me unable to move. I cried silent tears, weeping out of frustration.
‘I’m sorry, Raine. Shouldn’t have shifted. It was too much. Tasha sighed. She too was spent.
My concern was for the life I carried inside of me. I tried to focus on that, but I found myself falling into the dark, deep down into the comforting abyss.
“Amaris?” Strong arms held me against a hard, muscled chest. Was I dreaming? Had he finally come to my rescue?
But I opened my eyes to darkness so black, not even my werewolf sight penetrated it. Cold lips on mine, moving down my jaw towards my neck. Hand spidering over my body, stroking, fondling my folds between my thighs. I gasped appalled at my body’s reaction to the invasive touch. I was wet and throbbing with need. This couldn’t be happening. Struggling against my captive, trying to scream, finding no voice.
“I could

Just give in to me.” His probing fingers increased their pace on my clit while his tongue swirled over the pulsating vein in my neck. My heart rate spiraled out of control.
My body wanted to give into the pleasure, so badly, but… No, no, I won’t give in. Help me, Moon Goddess! This wasn’t right! It wasn’t my mate.
I felt a surge of power from deep within my soul, growing, growing like a ball of light, filling me to the brim with an unknown force. I felt it expanding, bursting out from my fingertips.
The scream that left my lips was primal, raw. “Get out of my head!” My body shot up from the cot and

when I opened my eyes, I was alone in the dark. Panting and rattled to the core, I scanned the room to look for Athan. Was he hiding in the shadows? I still felt his hands on my body, his cold lips on my skin. Grabbing the blankets off the cot to wrap around my naked body, trying to get the chill out of my bones
to no effect. I’ve never felt this cold before. Was he really here with me or did I dream it? It felt real. So
horribly real.
At the foot of the cot, I found a diaphanous pink robe which I gathered was meant for me to wear. It left absolutely nothing to the imagination. I would feel more naked with that piece of clothing on than without it.
But what choice did I have? It felt cold on my skin, not unlike the way his hands felt on my body causing goosebumps to appear on my arms and legs.
At least I was free from the encumberment of the shackle. I poured some water from a pitcher left on the table. My mouth was dry as bone and my hands shook when I brought the glass to my lips.
“Did you enjoy your dream as much as I did?” The suddenness of his voice made me drop the glass and the water spilled over my naked feet.
“Athan!” I hated that my voice sounded so thin.
He laughed, extracting himself from the gloom where he was hiding himself. “I must say, you have some power, little wolf, shoving me out of your head like that.” He came right up to me, caging me between the window and his body. He ran his knuckles down my cheek. “You know it would be much more enjoyable for both of us if only you wouldn’t be so stubborn. I am an accomplished lover, even if I do say so myself.” His breath fanned my face and I shuddered.
I looked away from his intrusive gaze, afraid he might compel me in
afraid he might compel me in my weakened state. “Your arrogance is boundless, Athan.” I tried to move away from him, but he pressed me against the wall, his hand cupping my face, tilting it to look up at him. The grip on my chin was painful and I felt a flicker of fear well up in my stomach.
“That little stunt you and your naughty wolf pulled drained most of your strength, Raine. If I wanted to, I could take what I want from you.” He smiled insidiously, the tips of his fangs protruding over his lips gleamed in the faint light. “Maybe I will…”
I pushed my palms against his chest, feeling the raw strength of his upper body. There was no way I

“Please Athan, you don’t want to do this.” I hated to beg but I felt powerless. I squirmed and struggled but it was like trying to escape from the icy grip of certain death.
“Oh, but I do, little wolf.” He hissed, grabbing a fistful of my hair and pulled my head to the side, exposing my neck. “You can beg and scream all you want. It will make your blood taste all the sweeter.”
His fangs scraped the delicate skin of my neck, prolonging the inevitable. I whimpered, hating myself even more for what his tongue did to my core. His arousal pressed against the thin material of the robe, as he lifted me onto the windowsill. One cold hand on my hip while he forced my legs apart.
My weak attempts to push him away seemed to excite him more, I was crying and pleading for him to stop, calling to Amaris to save me when his teeth sank into my neck. Pain and stars exploded in my
brain.
There was a strange whooshing sound in my ears like that of a strong gust of wind and I thought that this was it, he was draining me of my blood I was about to die. But he lifted his mouth from my neck, and I felt the warm trickle of my life blood flowing from the wound.
Athan uttered a snarling hissing sound, and he pulled me by my hair away from the window. I hung over his arm like a limp doll, eyes closed and barely conscious.
“Let go of her, Leech!” Amaris‘ voice jolted me out of my stupor.
He came! They found me. My eyes fluttered open to see him surrounded by a shimmering halo of light. Ross appeared out of the portal to stand beside him. More wolves followed.
“Amaris…” I struggled to free myself of Athan’s hold, but he yanked me back painfully. My scalp felt like it was being ripped apart. My relief at seeing Amaris was soon shattered by Athan.
“One step closer and I will kill her!” Athan hissed. His sharply tapered fingernail sliced into the wound on my neck. “It will be such a waste, don’t you think?”
“It’s me you want. Let her go!” Amaris snarled at him.
“That’s where you’re mistaken, Amaris.” Athan’s pulled my head back with such force I heard my bones

“Your Majesty, the portal… I don’t know if she can hold it much longer.” Ross said. “We have to hurry.”
“What the do you want, Athan?” Amaris growled, his wolf surfacing. My sight was fading fast.
