“She marked us. Rage couldn’t shut up about it. Not that I can blame him. I haven’t been able to stop smiling since last night

I admired the shape.

of the howling

ing wolf on my neck, Raine’s mark, I was as much hers as she was mine. Complete, that is how I felt. She was still sleeping, and I couldn’t resist looking at her. Honey blonde hair spread out on our pillows, her sensual mouth slightly open and her eyelidstr fluttering. She was dreaming and I hoped she dreamt of me.

“Your Majesty, sorry for the intrusion. I need to see you urgently: Beta Ross linked. So formal, that means only one thing, trouble.

“On my way.” I dressed hurriedly, leaving Raine to sleep.

Rona stepped out of the kitchen to serve our breakfast just as I closed the bedroom door.

“Do not wake her Majesty, I’ll eat later.” I said in passing and hurried down the hallway to my office where I knew Ross waited.

Not only Ross, but Lord Greyson and Elder Mattias were in my office. They bowed their heads as I passed them to get behind my desk. And to my surprise, my twin stood before the large bookcase, pretending to browse. What the uck was he doing here?

He turned around to smirk at me. “Good morning, your Majesty. I see you had a splendid night.” He was of course, referring to the mark. I had purposefully not buttoned my shirt all the way up.

“Why are you here, Sorin?” I motioned to the others to take a seat.

He sauntered towards me and leaned on my desk, his face too close to mine. “I have every right to be here, brother dear. The safety of the kingdom affects all of us.” His blue eyes glowed in his twisted face. “If you are done f ucking your pretty little Omega, maybe you can do something worthwhile to save us.”

That was when I saw red. Before anyone could react, my fist collided with his face I felt his nose break under my knuckles. I was on him in a flash. Rage pushed for control and with a snarl I held my brother up against the bookcase with one hand, claws drawing blood from his neck. Some books fell from their places at my feet.

“Your Majesty! No!” Elder Mattias screamed trying to grab my arm. I sent him flying over my desk.

“Speak to me like that again, Sorin and I will rip out your tongue.” I fought for control. Rage was all for it to end him.

I dropped him onto the floor, and he lay there gasping and spluttering for breath, Elder Mattias got off the floor, groaning. Ross and Lord Grayson watched us with stoic faces.

“Your Majesty, if we can get done with the drama.” Lord Grayson said dryly. “We have bigger problems.”

Flicking my hair out of my face and trying to get my panting breath under control I regained my composure enough to take a seat behind my

desk.

“Speak.” My gaze flicked to Sorin who stood and wiped the blood off his face with a handkerchief. I scoffed. A handkerchief Bl oody pan sy.

“I have word that there are now four packs that have aligned themselves with the Blood Fang and Crescent Moon packs, Sire. They are mobilizing an army.

“You expect them to attack the castle?” F uck. Just because I chose Raine? That couldn’t be the only reason.

Ross stepped forward. “The writing’s on the wall, your Majesty

“Do you see what you’ve done, Amaris? Your stubbornness will be the death of you. Of all of us.” Sorin ranted, not knowing or caring that i was

at the end of my patience with him. “You had your choice of she wolves of royal blood. You still do. Fix this”

I chose to ignore him although Rage was howling in my head to snap his neck. As much as I wanted to, I couldn’t do that. He was my brother

after all.

“Your Majesty, I suggest we move immediately.” Lord Grayson said, stepping in between Sorin and my desk. “I can have the warriors ready within the hour.”

“You’re suggesting war, Lord Greyson.” I shook my head. “Get the men ready, patrol our boundaries. I refuse to launch a full-scale war. If and when there is a breach, we will deal with it accordingly.” I turned to my Beta. “Beta Ross, make use of your spies to find the instigators. The business of choosing Raine as my queen is just an excuse.”

Beta Ross inclined his head. “Yes, your Majesty.”

“What about the wedding, Sire? Shouldn’t we postpone it?” Elder Mattias looked at me over his folded hands.

Over my dead body. “No, we will proceed as planned.”

“That is most unwise, your Majesty.” Elder Mattias looked as if he was going to burst into tears. “Please, reconsider.”

“Elder Mattias, give thanks to the Moon Goddess that I have respect

pect for you a

you as an advisor. Now get out. I have work to do.

“As it pleases your Majesty.” Elder Mattias said and left with hunched shoulders. Ross and Lord Greyson followed him out.

Sorin looked at me with obvious disdain, a tightlipped, condescending smile on his face.

Thave nothing further to say to you, brother”

“Well done, your Majesty, you’ve just proven to us all that you don’t give a f uck about the kingdom.” He did a ridiculously affected sweeping bow “Enjoy burying yourself in that tight little pus sy, because soon all will see who the real king ought to be”

He was so obvious in baiting me. I laughed. “Meaning yourself, Sorin?” I got up slowly behind the desk. “You fancy the throne, do you? Are you challenging me for the position?” He knew it and I knew it; he was no match for me.

“Oh, brother, I do not have to challenge you. You are handing it to me. Best step down now, if you want to keep your little Omega.” The smug smile on his face begged to be ripped off.

Grabbing him by his lapels I brought his face as close as I could stand it. “Let me make one thing very clear, Sorin. You touch Raine again and I will have your head on a stick and feed your entrails to your pregnant bit ch.”

The fear I saw in his eyes was satisfying. But I had to give it to him, he tried his best to mask it. I shoved him out of my office and slammed the

door

I went to the training grounds needing to let my aggression out. Lord Greyson was there speaking to the warriors. As soon as they saw me, they kneeled.

“I want ten of you to try your best to beat me.” I told my warriors who looked confused

Lord Greyson, who knew me like no other person except Ross, smirked at me. “Do you want them to attack you one on one?”

“No.” I grinned at him, narrowing my gaze at the warriors, “Ten of you, all at once. The best of them, Greyson. Hand to hand combat. No weapons and no turning into your wolves.

“As you command, Sire.” He addressed the wolves. “You heard his Majesty. Who is brave enough to face the king in battle?”

A roar went up from the warriors as ten of the best stood forward. They made a clearing for us. This was what I lived for the adrenaline of facing an enemy and conquering them. It almost came close to sex.

“C’mon boys, I promise I won’t kill you” Or at least I’ll try not to

They were hesitant at first, but I let the first one take the first blow to soften them up. It worked, they came at me with everything they had, punching, kicking, trying to pin me to the ground. I threw them off me, repeatedly. I broke one of the warriors” arms, I wasn’t concerned. His wolf would heal him. Another one got in a lucky shot, numbing my right arm. I grabbed him with the left by his head and used him to wipe the floor with the surviving few.

When all ten of them were down and bleeding, some groaning and moaning, I turned to Lord Greyson. “I hope they are better with weapons.”

“Indeed, Sire.” He tried to hide the smirk, but I saw it.

“Oh! What happened to you, Amaris?” Raine’s concern was touching. She rushed towards me when I entered the salon where she was reading. judging from the book she carelessly threw down.

I went to find her, not bothering to change my ripped clothing. I needed to see her, inhale her scent, hold her close.

“I wanted to see what my warriors were made of.” I grinned at her. She was so flustered and adorable, not knowing where to touch me or if she was allowed to. I helped her by pulling her into my arms. Her hands went to my face where I knew there were some bruises and cuts. They would soon disappear through.

Her eyes flitted to her mark on my neck, and she blushed.

“Pretty, isn’t it?” I felt all my anger and pent-up frustration just melt away

y at having her in my arms.

“You like it?” she had to ask.

“I love it.” I captured her mouth with mine, delving deep into her warm wetness, Tm hungry.”

She pulled her head back. “Oh, I can make you something really quick.”

“No, I’m hungry for you.” I told her.
