The Alpha King's Series

Chapter CHAPTER 46

CHAPTER-FORTY-SIX

BRINLEY.

I waited and watched as Xander and Charles stepped into the car from afar. Xander was giving Charles a tour of the orphanage today, and as much as I wanted to be there, I had another thing to do, something that I couldn't do if Charles were around the palace today.

I dig through the freshly packed dirt to retrieve Caliana's box. I needed to keep it safe, and the Caputo kingdom was not a safe place to hide it.

I couldn't risk Charles finding that amulet is too powerful for his hands.

Once I got the plastic wrapped box, I ran to Xander's car and started the ignition.

I knew one place that Charles or nobody would think to look for it, a place where it would be safe until I could put it in Caliana’s hands.

The Deluca Kingdom

Knox and Lucy were visiting her parents for the weekend so now was the perfect time to hide this thing.

As I pulled up into the Deluca Kingdom, I knew where I was hiding the box. It was my favorite place in the Kingdom, and no one ever used it.

The library.

When I was staying here with Knox and Lucy, I found a secret compartment on the floor by the window just a few feet away from the bookshelves. I placed a rug over it, and no one knew about it because there were hidden letters between Knox's father and Xander and Knox's mother.

I only found it by accident.

I pulled back the rug, took my knife, and pulled back the piece of the hardwood flooring. I placed the box inside and put the floor back down, and pulled the rug back over to cover it back up.

I sure hope this place stay's hidden.

Xander and Charles still hadn't returned by the time I got home, and I didn't want Charles to think I was afraid of him. So, I prepared lunch and texted Xander.

Me; Hey, I got lunch ready.

Xander replied immediately.

Xander; Sounds excellent. We will be back in twenty.

After I was finished with lunch, I went upstairs to grab Dominic so that he could eat his lunch with me, and I didn't feel comfortable with Charles being around. Goddess only knows what he would try and put through my son's mind.

I sat Dominic in his chair and placed a bow! of spaghetti in front of him.

I made Chicken parmesan pennies for Xander and Charles and me.

I placed the two plates on the table, sitting Charles across from me, and Xander sat beside Dominic on my left.

"Something smells great,” Xander says, coming into the dining room, Followed by Charles "Brinley," Charles says, taking his seat.

"You'll love this uncle. Brinley makes the best pennies,” Xander tells him.

"It smells delicious,” Charles nods.

“Its,”

"Thank you,” I mutter, taking a bite of my sandwich.

"I must say, Brinley. The orphanage is magnificent,”

"Thank you. The children deserved it,"

"I agree," Charles says, sipping his lemonade.

"What do you have planned for the day? You could join uncle and me,” Xander says.

"Yes, I'd love to hear what you got planned for the kingdom's future,” Charles says.

"No, thanks." I shake my head.

"It's my mama's day off, and she wants me to visit so she can see Dominic,"

Charles's gaze falls on Dominic eating his food.

"Cute kid," He mutters.

Xander smiles, looking over at Dominic.

"Just like his dad," Xander says to Charles, smirking.

"If you will excuse me, I must be on my way. Delores is waiting,"

"Eat," Dominic shouts as I lift him from his chair.

"Granny is making cookies," I tell him.

"Cookie?"

I nod.

Dominic smiles brightly at that.

"Here you go," Delores says to Dominic, handing him a cookie.

"Delores, do you still have my father's book of relatives?"

"Of course," Delores nods.

"I'd never part with it. You and Kelsy might want it one day,”

"May I take a look at it?"

"Yes, I'll go get it," She says, leaving the table and her bedroom.

"Where are Kevin and the kids?"

Delores walks back into the kitchen and hands me the book.

"At the park playing baseball. Gabby wants to do tryouts this year,”

I can't help but smile, watching how happy Delores is.

"I think that's great,”

Delores nods.

"What did you need the book for?"

I sigh.

"To see if I'm related to a Jasmine James,"

Delores frowns in deep thought.

She purses her lips.

"I've heard the name before. Owen mentioned that she got caught in the war that happened in this Kingdom years ago,”

I flip open a brown leather book full of pictures and names; Delores moves beside me as we search together.

"There," Delores points to the picture. She looks at it, then back at me.

"You look just like her. You could be her twin,"

I nod.

"She's beautiful," I mutter.

"Jasmine Fae James. 1910-1935,"

I pull out my phone and take a quick picture.

"Thanks, Delores."

"No, problem,"

I sat most of the day with Delores looking through my family history.

Dominic got cranky, so I brought him home, fed, bathed him, and put him in his room to play with his toys before bedtime.

There is still so much I didn't understand, but it's slowly coming together; Dylan was going to tell Harry what Charles did. Charles couldn't let Dylan expose him, so he killed the woman (Jasmine) To make Dylan back off.

Caliana was going to choose Harry and not her other mate. Charles made Harry believe that she did, and Harry killed the boy and then Caliana.

The Amulet that Caliana wore saw Charles as a threat and tried to destroy him, but Charles was far too brilliant. He knew this and stayed clear of her path, and instead, she swallowed half the Kingdom.

I told my suspicions to Mark, and he said that if Charles figures that I'm on to him, he will get rid of me. So Mark warned me to stay clear of Charles until we know more about what he is capable of, but there is only one way to do that.

I need Charles to tell me.

"So, Charles, how old is your son?" I asked.

Xander and Kyle thought it'd be a good idea if we could sit and enjoy a fire on Charles last night and drink some scotch and wine.

"Weston is eleven,”

I nod.

"Is boys at the age hard?"

Charles smirks.

"Weston can be hard to please sometimes. But I bring him to work with me, and watching someone bleed pleases him greatly,”

"You take you're eleven year old with you? When you kill people?”

Charles nods.

"Of course. How else will he learn if he does not see?"

I shrug.

"Weston shot his first victim the other day. The man borrowed a lot of money and couldn't pay it back. He tried to run. Can you believe that?" Charles says to Weston.

Xander just shakes his head.

"You let your son kill someone because he owed you money?"

"Brinley," Xander warns.

"It's okay, Xander. Weston will be taking over for me once I retire. He needs to learn from a young age so he will be the best when the time comes for him to lead,"

I clench my jaw but say nothing.

Charles was even sicker than I had thought.

"I'm calling it a night," I say, getting up from my chair.

"I'll join you," Katie mutters.

"Good night ladies, sweet dreams,” Charles tells us.

Katie and I walk into the back door.

"Goddess, can you believe that guy?" Katie says, shaking her head.

"He's a real tool,"

Katie laughs, nodding her head.

Some clear their throat and Katie glances at the door and sees Charles standing there.

"Katie darling, I am leaving tomorrow, and I would like a minute alone with Brinley,”

Katie nods.

"I'm going to make sure Anna is asleep. good night.” Katie said as she was leaving the kitchen. "What do you want, Charles?"

He smirks.

"I knew if I told you what I did to Caliana, you would do some digging. I saw you bury Caliana's box, and I went to dig it up only to find it was gone,"

He saw me burying the box? But I was careful, or so I thought I was. I'm glad I moved it.

"I don't know what you're talking about,” I deadpan.

Charles's lips form a thin line.

"Don't play games with me, Brinley. I know you have it, and I want that amulet,”

"And if I say no?"

Charles smiles mischievously.

Charles steps closer, and without realizing it, I am taking steps back.

"I'm sure by now you know what I have done. But know this, if it weren't for you to see where the box is hidden, I would have killed you already,”

"Kill me then,"

Charles shakes his head.

"I will make you a deal. Put the box in my room, and I will let you live. If you fail to do so, you will leave me no choice, and I will have to end you,"

Charles grabs my face and squeezes me tightly.

"Do not be a fool, girl; I've killed for away less,”

He drops me to the floor, walks to the door, and stops glancing at me from over his shoulder. "Caliana’s box better be on my desk in my room tonight before I return, or it would be such a shame to wake up and find your baby dead," Charles says, and my eyes widen.

The corner of Charles's lip curved upward as he left me alone.

Charles knows I have the box, and If I don't give it to him, he will kill Dominic, and he is so heartless he would do just that.

I grab my phone and dial the one person I can count on not to tell Xander anything

"Hello?"

"Listen, Charles knows that I have the box, and he wants me to be willing to give it to him. I am going to lay low for a while; if Xander asks if you know where I am, tell him no, and please don't tell him anything until I figure this out,”

"I won't. But where will you?"

"I don't know. It's best if I don't tell you anymore,”

"l understand. Is the box hidden?"

"Yes, no one will ever find it,"

"I have to go before Xander comes and finds me packing.”

"Be careful,” Mark says and ends the call.

I knew one thing was for sure I had to leave the Kingdom with Dominic before Charles hurt him over this. And as much as I hate to, I have to go and leave Xander.

And it's for his safety and the Kingdoms and mine and Dominic's.

I packed some clothes in a suitcase and wrote Xander a letter.

I grab Dominic, walk out the front door, and head to one place before taking off.

"May I ask why you're leaving?" Dr. Jacob says.

I shook my head.

"Xander will come to you first. Please don't tell him I was here and that you gave me the name of a good Dr. That will take care of Dominic,”

Dr. Jacob sighs.

"I won't. But he will need surgery, and the medicine will only last so long,"

I nod.

"I know," I tell him, taking medicine from his hands.

I walk out of the clinic and make one more call.

"Hey, what's up?"

"I need you to help me disappear,”

XANDER.

"Well, I have a long trip back to new york. I better get some sleep,”

"Goodnight, uncle. I will see you tomorrow,"

Charles nods.

Once Charles was gone, I turned to Kyle.

"Did you notice it?"

Kyle nods.

"The tension between was thick. And did you see how he ran inside to get another drink? After Brinley left. When his full glass sat right there in front of him?"

"I did,” I nod.

"My father told me always to watch my back around Charles. He has wanted me to be more like him and run my Kingdom like he runs his pack,"

Kyle raises a brow.

"He thought you were like him,"

I nod.

"I'm nothing like him,"

I snap my fingers.

"Charles told me something interesting today after we toured the orphanage,”

"What was that?"

I narrow my eyes.

"He said we must destroy Caliana before she can destroy Dominic,"

"Do you think this is about her?"

I shake my head.

"I don't know. But something doesn't sound right, and I don't know what he could have done to make Brinley uncomfortable when he is around,”

"Do you think he threatened her?"

"It's possible, but I don't see Brinley backing down from a threat,”

Kyle nods.

"She sure handled Mark well, didn't she,”

I laugh and shake my head.

"I had to make sure she was strong enough to handle these situations,”

"I know," Kyle says.

"I don't trust Charles.”

"Me neither,” Kyle Mutters.

"Let's finish this tomorrow. I want to talk to Brinley,”

I thought Brinley would be in bed by now; I was surprised that she wasn't in our room.

She's probably still with Katie.

I strip off my clothes and walk into the shower. She will probably be back by the time I finish. Wrapping a towel around my waist and headed for the closet.

After I slipped on my sweatpants, I noticed Brinley still wasn't back. I checked the time.

2:00 Am.

I saw a letter on my bedside table through the corner of my eye. So I go and pick it up.

Xander.

My love, I don't know where to begin. This is the hardest thing I will ever do.

I have to leave the palace, and I'm taking Dominic with me, and I know you will try and find me. But I don't want to be found. Just know that I had my reasons to leave and know it's for the sake of the Kingdom. We both know I would have never made a good queen.

I know you will hate me for leaving the way I am, but goodbyes have never been my thing.

I love you, Xander, and I will never forget you; please don't look for me, just let me go.

Brinley.

My palms fist, and I toss the letter and run to Dominic's room.

Empty.

I checked the closet and saw clothes were missing, so I went back into my room and checked Brinley's things.

Half of her clothes were missing.

"Fuck," I mutter.

“Bane, see if you can talk to Sage,’

“Already on it,' He replied.

I opened the mind-link.

'Kyle, we have a problem. Head to my office, and bring Katie' I tell him and end the link.

"I don't understand why would she just up and leave?" Katie says.

Kyle shakes his head.

"I guess there is more to the mystery than we thought,” He mutters.

"Have the tracker found her yet?"

Kyle shakes his head.

I slam my fist down on the desk.

“Bane, can you get through to Sage?"

He shakes his head.

“She has shut down the link,

"Fuck,"

"Bane, can't get through to her to wolf,"

Charles opens the door.

"What's with all the racket? I'm trying to get sleep,”

"I'm sorry, uncle Brinley, left me,”

Charles rose a brow.

"Left you?"

I nod.

His jaw ticks.

"I'm sorry to hear that, nephew," He grits out his palms, fists at his side as he walks back to the door. "I hope you find her,” He says as he walks out.

I narrow my eyes at Kyle.

"Charles acted angrier then surprised,”

Kyle purses his lips.

"Maybe he had something to do with this?" Katie says.

"Why do you say?”

Katie sighs.

"Charles asked to talk to Brinley alone,”

"Why didn't you tell me?" Kyle asks.

Katie shrugged.

"I didn't think anything of it."

"If I find out Charles has anything to do with her leaving, I'll kill him myself,"

A knock came on the door.

"Come in,"

"King," Ryder says as he enters.

"We lost Brinley's scent three hours north,”

"Fuck,"

"I'm sorry, King," Ryder says.

"Don't fucking be sorry, just find her,”

Ryder nods and leaves the room.

"Are you sure it's a good idea for us to go look for her?" Kyle asks.

"She's my mate, and that makes her your queen,”

Kyle nods.

"Isn't that your uncle?" Kyle frowns as he points to the car in the driveway.

"Uncle?"

"Xander, since you woke me up, I decided to head out since you have so much going on,”

"You don't have to,”

"I know. But it's for the best,” Charles says, getting into his car.

Once the car pulls away, Kyle turns to me.

"Do you think he is going to look for her?"

I clench my jaw.

"It sure fucking seemed that way,"

"Xander, we need to find her before he does,"

"I have a feeling it's because of my uncle she left,”

Kyle nods.

"It seems like it,"

"We need to find her now," I growl as I shift.

Kyle and my other trackers shift as we head in the direction Ryder lost her scent.
