The Alpha King's Series

Chapter CHAPTER 32

CHAPTER- THIRTY-TWO

BRINLEY.

"Where have you been?" Julia says, both hands on her hips

“Taking care of your baby,’ I wanted to say, but I didn't; there's no sense in causing Julia to say something that will make me slap the shit out of her.

No matter how bad I want to do that.

"Bane was fussy. We walked around town all day,"

She scoffs, "You should have asked my permission to take him into town,” She says.

"I didn't want to wake you from your beauty sleep,” I say sarcastically.

"Whatever, give me my baby,"

I hand Bane over to his mother, and without uttering another word, I run upstairs to my room. My phone starts ringing when I close the door and glance at the screen.

Kelsy.

"Hey, Kels,"

"Brinley, who was that adorable baby, you sent me a picture of. Unfortunately, I was busy earlier and couldn't phone you," She says, sounding exhausted.

"It was Julia's baby, his name Bane," I tell her as I run my bathwater. My feet are swollen, and my back is killing me. A nice long soak is what I need.

"Why are you taking pictures of her child? Brinley, she is trying to steal your mate," She exclaims. I sigh and tell Kelsy everything Julia told me, and it took a good thirty minutes to do that.

"THAT BASTARD!" Kelsy yells.

"Kelsy, if this is what Xander wants," I pause, already feeling the ache in my chest, "I won't stand in his way," I tell her.

"But-"

I shake my head even though she can't see me.

"No, buts," I cut her off.

Kelsy sighs, "Don't bite my head off. I was only going to tell you to speak to Xander first,” She says. "I don't know,"

I started so many times today to pick up the phone and call him. But I was afraid he'd say all those things Julia had told me were true, and I don't know if I could handle that right now.

"I have to go, Kels; I'm exhausted and hungry,”

"Fine. Take care of yourself and my unborn nephew," She says.

After Kelsy and I said goodnight, I dressed for bed. I was so excited about tomorrow, how much the Nuns need this, and most importantly, the children.

I met Seth at the supply store, and as we gathered up the things he needed, he told me I should find a place for the Nuns and kids to stay. He said it could take a few weeks to finish the job. Seth was such a nice boy he even got his friends to pitch in, though none of them wanted any money for helping. The coats alone to repipe coasted more than Seth had thought, but I didn't mind. It's for a cause that I have always wanted to do

Help people.

I spent most of the day looking at places to rent big enough to accommodate the Nuns and children. Sister Mary Danvers, the head honcho, said she had more nuns and children who wanted to join them, but they didn't have the means to welcome them in.

One day I hope to fix that.

I found a five-bedroom house that wasn't too greatly expensive. Seth and his friends Bryan and Micheal helped us move everyone to their temporary home. That only took about an hour, and the boys went straight to work.

I helped the sisters settle in, unpacking clothes, shoes, toys, and food. I hated to leave them, but Julia texted me that she needed my help.

I swear the nerve of this girl is unreal.

"You needed my help?"

Julia nods, "I do. Xander is back and wants to see me. I need you to take Bane,”

My mouth drops.

This stupid bitch did not call me home to watch her baby, so she could try to seduce my mate. Ugh

"Julia, I can't watch him tonight. I have to see Dr. Jacob," I tell her. It's not a lie. He called me this afternoon and asked if I could come to see him.

"Well, that's going to have to wait.” She shakes her head.

"I'm sorry, Julia, this is important. I can't watch him,”

I walked past her ignoring her colorful language, and headed to my room to change my clothes so I could head over to see Dr. Jacob.

I grabbed leggings and an oversized t-shirt and headed to the bathroom to change, brush my teeth, and wash my face. I was combing my hair when I heard something come from my room. I sat down the brush and walked out of the bathroom; my mouth dropped.

My eyes widened as I stared at Bane lying on my bed.

That stupid bitch.

I could not believe Julia, and I told her I had an appointment and couldn't watch him. But I should have known; Julia doesn't care about anything but herself, including her baby.

I walk over to the bed and lift Bane into my arms.

"I guess you're coming with me," I tell him. His green eyes start to flutter closed. I walk downstairs with Bane in my arms. I stop by the entrance and place him in his stroller before we begin our walk to Dr. Jacobs.

"Ms. James, now I know you've had a ton of ultrasounds. But if it's okay, I'd like to do another one to check the baby's other organs.” Dr. Jacob says. His eyes fell to the stroller beside my seat in the waiting area.

"I'm his Nanny. And I don't mind if you check the baby," I tell him standing from my seat. Dr. Jacob frowns but says nothing as he leads me to the back room.

"Just lay down on the bed there,” He says, pointing to it.

I pushed the stroller beside the bed, climbed onto it, and raised my shirt. I've so many of these things lately I know what to do before the Dr. Can even ask.

Dr. Jacob begins by pressing my stomach, making sure everything feels fine; once he finishes that, he slips on gloves and squirts the warm jelly onto my stomach.

He moves the wand around, stopping to take measurements of what look like white spots to me. "Okay," Dr. Jacob says, taking off his gloves and backing the machine up. He washes his hands and then sits on his stool.

"I've got great news,” He says.

I smiled. He has good news. Maybe Dominic doesn't have a heart condition after all.

Dr. Jacob shakes his head and holds out his hand.

"Before you get too excited. The baby still has Aortic Valve Disease, but the good news is. All his other organs are fine and functioning as they should; now that's said,” He pauses, "I think we will be okay to deliver in two weeks,"

Two weeks? Dominic will no longer be in my tummy but my arms.

"And you're sure he will be okay? I still have two months,"

He nods, "I believe it's safer if he is born. If something happens while he is still in the womb, I won't be able to help him. So, chances look better this way,” He explains.

I nod my head, "Okay."

Dr. Jacob smiles. "I'll have my nurse call you to set everything up. She will go over everything that we will do and what will happen if, for any reason, we would have to do a cesarean,”

Dr. Jacob stands from his seat just as Bane decides to full-blown cry. I was washing the jelly off my stomach with the wet rag Dr. Jacob had given, but I sat it down so I could attend to Bane.

"I got it. Clean yourself up,” Dr. Jacobs says.

"Thanks," I mutter as I rub the wet cloth over my lower stomach.

"Ah," He says as he lifts Bane from his stroller.

"The Desmond baby, I delivered him two months ago," He said as he rocked Bane back and forth. "Yeah, his mother is marrying the Alpha king,"

Dr. Jacob raised a brow.

"Pardon?"

I shrug my shoulders.

"Julia and Xander are getting married. Since I'm in debt to the king, I am a nanny instead of being a slave again,” I tell him as I take Bane from his arms. I placed him back into the stroller, whipped a quick bottle, and put it in his mouth.

"That's not what the King told me," He says, shaking his head.

"Doesn't matter. If you're done with me, can I go? Bane is fussy, and he needs rest,"

He nods, "Of course,”

I kicked up the wheel stoppers on the stroller and was about to leave when the door flew open, and a furious Xander stood in the doorway.

XANDER.

"You will have a daughter someday, Xander. Surely your mate will want more than one pup,” Mark says, his lip tilting the corner of his mouth.

My jaw clenches, but I don't say anything. Instead, I stare into Mark's dull brown eyes.

Mark Mortaga is slightly overweight, with more fat than muscle. I already stare into his empty eyes, knowing he thinks he intimidates me. But he can't be more wrong. Nobody intimates me, no matter their size. Mark is crazy if he thinks I will ever let Brinley have another baby, not when she is having so much trouble with this one.

"I'm afraid not. My mate wants only one,"

Fire flashes in Mark's brown eyes. His fist slams against the table.

"We have a blood oath that clearly states, a firstborn Caputo girl must marry a Mortaga boy. You cannot change the oath,” He yelled. Spit was flying from his mouth as he spoke.

"I am not changing anything,” I told him, shaking my head.

"I am not the Goddess, and she chose for us to have a son, not a daughter,”

His jaw ticks.

"I'll read over every inch of the contract that our ancestors signed in blood. After that, my newborn son will marry into the Caputo's as promised,” He says as he storms out of the meeting room.

He can read over that contract all he wants. I have read that stupid contract more than once, and it's plain in black in white that a Caputo girl must marry a Mortaga boy.

Brinley is having our son. Mark can't change that fact. No matter how much he reads that contract, it won't change the baby's gender.

"How was the meeting?" Kyle asked. I climbed into the car.

"He denied the threats,"

Kyle shook his head.

"I figured he would lie his way out of it," He says, glancing down at his phone with a smile.

Since Kyle held Annabella in his arms, the guy has become a softy.

"Did he say anything else?"

I sigh, rubbing my temples from the throbbing pain shooting through my head.

"He wanted to know when my mate would be having a girl. I told him she would only have one child,"

"How'd take the news?" Kyle asked, lifting his brow.

"Not good,”

I told him and pulled my phone from my coat pocket to check for missed calls or texts. I frowned when I didn't see anything. Then, I glanced over at Kyle.

"How does Katie like having Brinley back?"

"She told me this morning she hasn't seen her. Katie went to your room but found Julia instead,” Kyle tells me.

Was Julia still in my fucking room? Katie should have seen Brinley. It's been a whole day.

Kyle gives my shoulder a tight squeeze.

"Don't worry. I'll call Katie now and see if Brinley is okay,” He dials Katie's number.

When I don't say anything, he adds. "Which I'm sure everything is fine, Xan."

Brinley better be fucking fine, or I will rip heads off. If anybody touches my mate, I do mean anybody. There will be hell to pay.

Kyle hangs up his phone and glances over at me.

"What?"

He sighs, "You're not going to like what's going on,” He says and leans up to mutter something to the driver.
