Chapter CHAPTER 21

CHAPTER TWENTY ONE

BRINLEY.

(TWO MONTHS LATER)

I haven't seen or talked to Xander since our fight two months ago, as hard as it was. Xander hasn't tried to contact me either, so it's fair to say we're both upset. Xander telling me he didn't love me hurt, hurt like hell. My heart breaks every time I picture his face that day.

My belly has grown round, still not full-blown, but enough to tell that I'm pregnant. And that's what petrifies me because today Knox is driving me to the hospital in the Caputo kingdom, where Katie will give her to her baby today.

Katie went into labor last night, but still no baby. Dr. Jacob told her first-time mothers can be in labor for hours at a time before giving birth. I hope I make it before the baby arrives.

"You know. Xander might be there." Knox mutters.

I glanced at him and sighed, then I stared out the window. I didn't utter a word as I watched the trees pass by.

I knew Xander would be there. He and Kyle we're close, after all. Knots formed in the pit of my stomach at the thought of seeing Xander, and most likely, he would have Julia clinging to his arm. "I know," I finally said to Knox after some time.

"He will notice your pregnant. After all, it's hard to miss," I glared at him, and he took his hands off the steering wheel and put them up in surrender.

"Put your hands on the wheel,” I yelled. Knox smirked, "What's the matter? Scared?" He teased. I rolled my eyes.

"I am, but not of your driving," I say, averting my gaze out the window, not looking over at Knox. "Why are you so afraid to tell him?" He says

I shrug, "What if he doesn't want the baby. Like he doesn't want me," I say, watching my thumbs battle. I'm a ball of nerves, and I'm sure it shows.

"He will. I know my brother. He will want this baby. As he wants you," Knox said, nodding his head. "How do you know? He told me twice that he didn't love me, Knox. I cried on your shoulder all night,"

Knox nods, "I know," He pauses, "But I've talked to him. He asks about you all the time.” He says. As I met Knox's eyes, my eyes were wide, "Please tell me you didn't tell him about the baby," Knox shakes his head, "I would never do that. That's your place, not mine. I'm just saying he asks about you, and I know he loves you, B," Knox glanced over at me.

I breathed a sigh of relief. Xander still doesn't know about the baby. I believe that news should come from me.

"Why does my brother call you 508?" Knox asked, his brow raised as he stared at the road.

"That was my slave number at the palace. He doesn't know my real name. At least I don't think he does." I shrugged.

"Well, if he does know your name, he wouldn't be calling you 508," Knox chuckled. I arched a brow and crossed my arms over my chest.

"What's so funny?”

Knox narrowed his eyes, "My brother doesn't even know his own mate's name. That's funny," I roll my eyes and stare back out the window. Only one hour and thirty minutes to go until we make it to the hospital.

I closed my eyes, letting sleep take over.

"B, wake up. We're here,” Knox says, gently shaking my shoulder.

I groaned but opened my eyes, and, sure enough, we're parked in front of the kingdom's hospital. I rubbed my eyes before opening the door and getting out of the car. The breeze was a little chilly, and I shivered from it.

"Here," Knox says, handing me his jacket. I put it on without thinking twice and zipped it up. It was big enough so that you couldn't see my growing belly.

"Thanks," Knox nodded as we both headed into the hospital. I was unsure where to go, but Knox walked to a lady dressed in yellow scrubs.

"We're looking for labor and delivery?" He told the lady. She smiles at Knox and tells him, "Fourth floor through the double doors.” Knox nods, "Thank you,"

"Uh," The girl says, grabbing Knox's arm, "Do you have a mate?" She asks. Knox again nods, "I do," The girl's smile drops. She was a pretty girl, with Short brown hair, bright blue eyes, and curves you could see through her tight-fitted scrubs. "What a shame. Jeanie loves to play.” She says and walks away.

My mouth drops, which I was not expecting. And by the look on Knox's face, neither was he. "Come on, elevators over here,” He says like that didn't happen.

We stepped into the elevator, and the doors slid closed. I glanced over at Knox and smirked, "Wait until Lucy hears about this," I chuckled. His face turns pale white.

"Please, don't tell her. She'll kill me,” I arched my brow, "It's funny. You didn't do anything wrong,” I told him. He shakes his head, "Please, please.” He begs. I started laughing as the doors opened. I stepped off, looked back at him, and started bursting into fits of laughter.

"You're teasing me, aren't you?" He says seriously. I nod.

He glares at me and walks past me. I follow in suit but still laugh at how mad he is now.

"I hate you," He mutters over his shoulder.

Knox opens the double doors and turns the corner. I follow, and once Knox stops moving, I follow his gaze. Xander was sitting on a chair with Julia in his lap. I stop laughing and glance over at Knox, and he wraps his arm around my shoulder.

"Just focus on Katie," He whispers in my ear. I nod once at him.

"What room is Katie in?" Knox asked Xander, who was glaring daggers at him.

"400. Down this hall to the left," He said, looking away from Knox and me. Knox said nothing as he led me down the hall to Katie's room.

"What was that about?" I asked Knox.

"He thinks we're sleeping together,” Knox sighs, "At least that is what he insinuated through mind- link," He added. I frowned at Knox and stopped walking.

"You can mind- link Xander?" He nods, "We're brothers. Our links never break," He says. I nodded. "I'm sorry. If I've caused trouble between you too," I tell him. He shrugs, "Don’t worry about Xander. He will be fine." He tells me and leads me to Katie's room.

Knox knocked on the door, and seconds later, Kyle opened it. Kyle looked at Knox and raised a brow, and then his gaze fell to our joined hands and me.

"She's been asking for you," Kyle says, walking back into the room. Knox looked at me and shrugged. I let go of his hand and walked through the door.

Katie was sitting up in the hospital bed holding a tiny pink blanket. My smile fell. I missed it. I missed the birth of her baby.

"Don't worry, you only missed it by ten minutes,” Katies says, waving me over to her. I strolled over to the bed and sat on the edge.

"I'm sorry I'm late,” I whispered.

"Here, hold her," Katie says, placing the baby into my arms.

"I'll give you two some privacy. Kyle, can you show me where I can get a drink? Knox asked. Kyle nods, "Yeah." He says, getting up and kissing Katie's forehead before leaving the room.

I glanced down at the baby, and her eyes were closed. She had soft, light brown hair, and her skin was so smooth with hair all over it.

"She's beautiful," I tell Katie.

"Thank you. I named her Annabella, after Kyle's mom," Katie says. I looked at Katie and smiled, "It's beautiful. It suits her." Katie nods, "I think so too,"

The baby started crying, so I handed her back to Katie.

"Kyle told me about the fight between you and Xander," Katie said. I nodded. Of course, Kyle told Katie.

"Well, do you want to know why?" I asked. Katie nods.

I stood up and removed my jacket, and her eyes widened, "Brinley, your pregnant.” She exclaims. I chuckled and nodded.

"I asked Xander over to The DeLuca Kingdom so I could tell him about our baby. But he brought Julia with him," Katie shakes her head, "You should have kicked her ass," I arched my brow, and she frowned.

"What?" She says.

"Katie, she's pregnant. I couldn't hit her,” Her mouth forms an '0".

"So, did you tell Xander?" I shook my head, "I was too upset. He told me he didn't love me," I could feel the tears threatening to fall, but I held them back.

"I'm sorry, Brinley," Katie says. I opened my mouth to say something when the door opened. I turned to face the door, and my eyes widened as I met Xander's gaze and his eyes dropped to my growing stomach. His jaw clenched, and his palms fisted at his sides.

"I'll kill him," He growled as he slung the door open and left the room.
