The Alpha King's Series

Chapter CHAPTER 19

CHAPTER NINETEEN

BRINLEY.

It's been a week since my visit with Dr. Gram. I've been working up the nerve to tell Xander about the baby. But I'm not sure how he will react to the news. There is only one way to find out for sure. I grab my phone from the nightstand with trembling hands. I dial Xander's number. I've tried to call him before, and he never answered. But, of course, he probably won't now, being 3:00 am.

The phone began to ring as my heart hammered against my chest; I took a few deep breaths to calm myself down.

"508," His raspy voice said. The tone in his voice confirmed my thoughts about him being asleep. "Xander, I'm sorry to wake you."

"Why are you up so late?" He says. I sighed.

"Xander, I need to tell you something..." I began, but Xander cut me off. "And it couldnt wait till morning?"

"No."

I instantly picture him running his fingers through his long black hair; I hear him sigh. I bit my lip in remembrance of how good Xander looks.

"Can you come by Knox's kingdom?" I asked.

"I can't. Julia and I are going baby shopping,”

So, he's taking Julia baby shopping? I tried to tell Xander that Julia's baby wasn't his, but he wouldn't listen. I would never stand his way from raising her baby, and I feel he needs to know about our baby.

"Xander, please.”

He sighs, "Fine. I'll come, but I cannot stay long." He says.

"Xander?"

"Mhm,"” He hums softly.

"Do you love me?" The words fell from my mouth before I could stop them. I've told Xander many times that I love him, and not once has he said it back, and I need to know. Does he love? They were mates and were supposed to be together. I fell in love with Xander before knowing he was the Alpha king. Julia only loves what she can possess from his title.

"What's going on that you suddenly want to see me? You've been there almost a month now, and you haven't called or texted until now," He says.

My forehead creased. I've been calling and texting, and he never responds.

"I have. You never answer my calls or texts," I replied.

"I have gotten anything from you," I frowned.

I quickly screenshot my call log and texts and sent them to him. Then, I waited patiently for his response.

"I'm not sure what's going on. I would have answered you, and I've wanted to hear your voice." "Xander. Do you love me?"

"Why are you doing this to me? You know I'm having a baby with Julia. I can't make things more complicated right now," He says.

"Answer the damn question, Xander," I replied, getting angry suddenly.

Mood Swings.

Yesterday, I bit Knox's head off after he told me I was overeating. He just shook his head and called me a drama queen, which earned him a slap.

"I need to raise Mine and Julia's baby," Xander says.

"You didn't answer my question.”

"What would happen if I did answer it?"

"Nothing," I said with a sigh.

"Then, why even bother?" Xander says, sighing

"I love you, Xander."

"You don't think I don't know that? You have made it clear that you love me," I cringed at the harshness of his tone.

"I'm sorry," I whispered, letting silent tears escape my eyes.

"If only I were a little older, you would love me back. You would accept me as your mate. Unfortunately, I can't help that I'm only seventeen, and I can't help that you got stuck with a mate you hate.”

"I don't hate you," He whispers.

"But you don't love me,"

Xander was silent. He knew what I said was true, and he didn't love me. If he did, he wouldn't have gotten rid of me to be with Julia.

"Look, it's late. How about we get some sleep, and we can talk tomorrow when I get there," He says, his voice laced with sleep.

"Okay, goodnight, Xander."

"Goodnight, 508."

"I got a call from my brother this morning,” Knox says, sitting at the table with Lucy and me. I couldn't sleep very well so. So I decided to make breakfast for us all. Lucy looks up at him with a raised brow, "What did he want?" Lucy asks Knox.

"I called him last night,” I told them both.

Lucy's face lit up, and she smiled wide, "Are you going to tell him about the baby?" I nod, "It's only fair he knows,"

"Knox, you can finally tell him that you found your mate,” Lucy says.

Knox nods to Lucy as he continues to eat his breakfast.

Lucy's phone started going off; she glanced at it and frowned.

“Mom?”

Lucy stood from the chair and hung her phone up.

"Knox, It's my brother. His wife is having the baby, and I gotta go." Knox stood up and hugged her. "Call me later. You can meet Xander another time,” She nods, "I love you." She says, kissing his lips. "I love you, too."

Lucy untangled herself from Knox and headed out of the kitchen. Knox glanced over at me and sighed, "Her brother Seth and His wife Beth are having triplets. It's a long surgery,” He explained. I nodded. “I hope all goes well,” Knox narrows his eyes, "With Beth are Xander?" He says, smirking. "Both," I breathed. Knox started laughing.

"Always so serious. Try and sometimes relax,” He says, shaking his head. I purse my lips, "Easy for you to say. You're not the one telling Xander that your pregnant,”

"True. I'd hate to be in your shoes,” Knox smiles, taking a bite of bacon. I shook my head and went back to my own breakfast.

I was preparing lunch when the doorbell ranged, and my stomach was knotted with nerves, and I felt the need to vomit.

Here goes nothing; I've got this.

I chant over in over in my head.

You got this, Brinley.
