Chapter CHAPTER 17
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
BRINLEY.
"I never meant to hurt you. I've tried to think of a different way and keep you here. But I didn't want to cause you any more pain than I already have.” Xander says.
"Why did you lie to me? You told me your name was Thomas. I believed you. And you let me, not once did you tell me you were the Alpha King," He furrowed his brows, "I never lied. My name is Xander Thomas. And being with you, I felt like I could be me and not the king."
"I get it," I said, running my hands through my hair, "You're ashamed of me. That's why no one knew I was your mate,”
Xander took a step forward, and I took a step back. "Don't," I whispered, shaking my head. His forehead creased, but he stopped moving. "I'm sorry," He mutters.
"Goodbye, Xander," I said, walking out the door, not looking back.
"Why are you packing your things?" Julia asked. "The Alpha King sold me. I leave tomorrow," I told her.
I never bothered to tell Julia that Xander was Thomas. Julia walks to her closet, and I don't bother trying to make conversation after packing; I'm meeting Katie before I leave.
"Here, Julia says, handing me her red bikini. "You take it. I know you like it."
"Thanks,"
Julia laid down, and I finished packing and headed toward Katie's room.
I was going to miss the palace, though I'm sure Xander's brother has one. The one thing it doesn't have, Xander. I sighed heavily, walking through Katie's door. She was sitting on the couch with two steaming mugs of hot cocoa.
"Hey," I say, offering a small smile. Katie bites her lip, "So, what happened between you and Kelsy." She says, pausing.
"Do you think I made a mistake in telling her?” Katie shakes her head, "No. I think you did the right thing, and she needed to know how much you protected her.” I nod, taking a sip of my cocoa.
"I'm going to miss you,” I tell her. A sadness crosses her eyes. "I'll miss you too,"
"If Knox lets me, I'll come back for the birth of your baby," Katie nods, rubbing her growing stomach. Werewolves only stay pregnant for about four to six months. However, since Kyle is a beta and Katie is from a Beta bloodline, she will likely have her baby in three more months.
"I hope you don't miss it," I agree.
"So the Alpha King," She started; I rolled my eyes. Of course, I knew this was coming. "I didn't realize until today. My mate Thomas is Xander." Katie arches her brow, "You really didn't know?" I shake my head.
"Well, I knew." She said, pursing her lips.
"How?" She shrugged.
"I smelled his scent in your room. And I smelled your heat was gone, so I put two and two together," My eyes went wide, "You knew Thomas was Xander?" She nods, "Not at first; only when you were in heat did I figure it out,”
"Thanks for telling me,"
"I thought you knew,” I shook my head, "I did not,"
"It doesn't matter,” I mutter. Katie frowns, "Why not?”
"He's making me leave to raise Julia's baby," Katie mouths an '0"
"He didn't want me anyway. He was ashamed of me and kept me a secret. He doesn't like my age.” "He never kept you a secret from Kyle,” I furrow my brows, "What do you mean?"
"He told Kyle you were his mate. Kyle told me."
I nod, "I'll be glad to have time off from doing slave duties,” Katie laughed slightly.
"I love you, Katie," She smiled, "I love you too, Brinley."
The SUV pulled up in front of a beautiful mansion. It was as big as the Caputo palace. And I stepped out of the car, and Kyle got my suitcase.
"Here," He says, handing me a credit card. I frowned, looking at it. "It has no limit. Xander wanted to make sure you had this to get what you need and anything you want,” I nod, sticking the plastic card in the back pocket of my jeans. "He also got you this phone so that we can keep in touch.” I grabbed the brand new I phone 11 pro and also placed it in my back pocket.
"You ready?” I nod, "Thanks, Kyle,"
"I'll be back to get you when Katie has the baby,”
I smiled and nodded at him. Katie must have told him that I wanted to be there for her.
Kyle heads up the pathway that leads inside, the door swings open, and a tall gentleman walks out. He was the total opposite of Xander. He was tall like him. He had short blonde hair, bright blue eyes, and was just as muscular. Xander and his brother shared the same jawline and high cheekbones. Knox had a scar on the left side of his lips.
"Kyle, always a pleasure,” Knox said, shaking his hand.
"This must be Brinley?" I nod, bowing my head in respect of the alpha king. "Nice to meet you, sir," He waved me off, "Call me Knox. I hate being called sir. I'm not that old.” He jokes. I laughed. "Okay, Knox."
"Here, I'll take your bag and show you to your room. Then show you around,” I nod, "That would be great, thanks.”
"I need to head back. If you need anything, don't hesitate to call.” "Thanks, Kyle," I say, hugging him. After we pulled apart, Kyle left.
Knox's place was lovely and huge, and he had a lot of different paintings on the walls, of mountains, the ocean. And one picture stood out to me. It was of a woman's tall, thin, long, curly black hair with blue eyes. She looked a lot like Knox and Xander. So this had to be their mother.
The flooring was the cherry-stained wood, a giant elegant staircase, and white walls with gold trim. Knox had good taste.
I followed him up the stairs and down a long hallway. Finally, he opened the door on the right and gestured for me to go in.
The room was big. The walls were between a yellow and white king-sized bed and an on-suite. "Do you like it?" He asks. I nod, "It's beautiful; thanks again." He nodded, "You don't have to thank me. It was a pleasure to help. Now once you settle in, I'll show you around,” Knox sat my suitcase on the bed and stepped out of the room. I unpacked my things and fell back on the bed, completely exhausted
