The Alpha King’s Heart: His Rejected Mate (The Alpha King Series Book 1)

The Alpha King’s Heart: His Rejected Mate: Chapter 27

‘How was your first day,’ Azriel asked as we left the school premises. Teens can be sassy and stubborn but I knew how to handle them.

‘Good, I’m just a little tired,’ I said. ‘ It’s almost dark,’

‘Let’s walk home together,’ I was lost in my thoughts, missing my mate. Ever since we came here, we didn’t spend enough time together but I know he has duties as a king.

‘Why are you being attacked?’ I asked.

‘Shouldn’t you say we?’ He narrowed his gaze on me and I shrugged,

‘I’m not part of the pack yet,’

‘Speaking of that, when will he initiate you into the pack?’ he asked.

‘After the blue moon,’ I said.

‘How are you sure he’syour mate if you haven’t shifted yet? You know you can only know once you’re in wolf form,’

‘He told me so,’

‘And you just believe him?’

‘My wolf told me, I feel the sparks of the bond!’ I snapped and he raised his hands in surrender.

‘Why is the pack being attacked?’

‘Because we are the strongest, and the dark wolves want revenge on Wyatt for killing our dad,’ he said and I froze in my tracks.

I stare at Azriel, he looked nonchalant. ‘ The dark king was our father,’ I did not see that coming at all.

‘How?’

‘Do I tell you how we came to be? He fucked my mother and his mother,’

I felt heat sneak up to my cheeks and I looked away.

‘Not that!’ I grumbled.

‘Before the dark king became an even bigger monster, he was mated to my mother. She died two years after my birth and then he kidnapped and raped Wyatt’s mom and boom, another baby,’ My blood ran cold and I looked up at him but he didn’t seem fazed at all, or maybe he didn’t want to show that it affected him.

‘How did your mother die?’ I asked, at last, he peered down at me and I thought he wouldn’t answer but did.

‘She was killed by the dark king’s enemies who wanted to end his reign of terror and one of them was his cousin, Mila’s mate,’

Mila? I searched my brain for that name but it wasn’t familiar to me.

‘Mila is Wyatt’s mother,’ he said. ‘ Our mothers were caught amid two power-hungry fuckers, one thought he was doing the right thing for his people, but killed an innocent during this while my father was just unadorned evil,’

‘So as revenge for killing his mate, the dark king kidnapped his cousin’s mate and raped her,’ That was just sick! I felt bile rise in my throat.

‘What happened next?’

‘Father planned on killing Mila but kept her in his palace to spite his cousin, he would rape her and when he finally decided to end her life, he discovered she was pregnant, so he spared her life, he couldn’t bring himself to kill his flesh and blood… if only he knew that was the child destined to end his wretched life,’ He chuckled bitterly. I felt the urge to touch him but refrained from doing so.

‘I’m sorry for all you have been through,’

‘I’m over it now. Mila was good to me and made sure to shield Wyatt and I from all the terrible things that were happening, but as we grew older, we saw how evil our father truly was, and how bad he treated her,’ he gritted his teeth, his fists were now clenched and the aura that radiated off him was dark, just like Wyatt when he is angry. It was scary. I took a step back from him.

I had so many questions and I wanted to know more, like why is his young brother king and not him but I didn’t ask further seeing how it changed his mood. Small steps.

‘I’m starving!’ I touched my stomach. He looked at me but didn’t say a word. I looked around where we were and saw a cute diner.

‘Treat me to dinner, boss, I used so much of my energy today,’ His lips curled into a small smile and he nodded.

‘You did run around a lot indeed,’ We crossed the road and entered the diner. It was elegant with lanterns and nice round booths. I noticed them sending nervous glances our way, especially the customers. Azriel only growled at them, making them look away in a hurry. The servers were most benevolent. Our food came and slowly, we ate our fries and chicken. It was so good. After we finished all our food, I stood up.

‘I’m sure Luca is worried and I left the phone at home,’ I said, looking for it in my bag when I couldn’t find it.

‘Who leaves their mobile phone at home?’

‘Me, I’m not a phone person, let’s go,’

he pulled out his wallet and dropped a couple of bills on the table before walking home.
