THE ALPHA KING SAMAEL

Chapter Dissappointment

I was brought in a room reeking of medicine I already started to feel nauseated. “Place him on the bed.” a middle aged woman stared emotionlessly at me. “Hold this, it’ll help with the bleeding” she gave me a wet towel motioning me to hold it above my nose. I let out a low carp feeling a crack on the edge of my nose, the dude broke my nose. “What color is this?” she held a card before my eyes. “ mblanck” I muttered. I know I sounded funny but that was it, my nose just couldn’t allow me to speak correctly. The nurse noted some things down, bandaged my swollen nose then gave me some painkillers.

“You have a minor concussion; the blow really had some weight on. Was it the basketball players?” she asked glancing at me. I wondered if it was that painfully obvious. I only nodded my head. “You are new here, aren’t you?” I nodded back again at her. “It’s best if you stay out of their radar if you at least want to survive this school.” She advised with a smile. I took a while to inspect the woman, nurse. Have I seen her before? “ you are Victoria’s momb?” I widened my eyes. She had to be, they were almost lookalikes only that she was the older version of Victoria. She let out a quiet laughter “ you have good eyes, and I see you’ve met her too.”

“She’s kind” I said

“Is she? It’s getting late, why don’t you be on your way and go get some rest. It’s best if you got home before nightfall” she signed a prescription and handed it over to me. “Don’t ask…. Just leave its six already” I was just about to complain I don’t fear darkness when she cut me off.

The pain in my stomach had already subsided so I could comfortably drive home. The school was deserted except for one or two students I spotted walking out. I didn’t have much trouble riding home only the constant headaches I kept on getting. The constant pounding on my nose also made me breathe with much difficulty, I couldn’t even speak correctly.

“What happened to your nose?” Uncle stark inquired with stern eyes.” I ….uh” I stuttered

“ got banged up by Rodriguez Ferson” Kate replied from the sofa immediately earning a glare from me. “ It wasn’t like dat” I tried explaining

“You got into a fight on your first day?” uncle stark shouted angrily his usual enthusiasm lost in his voice. “ it wasn’t on popas” I felt tears threaten to leave my eyes not because I felt like crying, but because I was exerting much pressure on my nose so as to speak. Uncle stark might have realized that because he heaved a sigh of relief then held my shoulder.

“Surely? The mayor’s son? It had just to be him?” He asked softly. Well I didn’t know it was the mayor’s son until now, right now. I only shrugged. “Go rest “he sighed. Kate winked at me on my way to my room. I just felt like bashing her head on the wall, well not literally I could only entertain the thought. She was my cousin and a detective’s daughter, she was untouchable.

Tonight was the full moon; the moon was already shining bright outside my window. This might be a good night for moon bathing, I perceived. But also a good one to sleep, tomorrow I have school early in the morning. Suddenly, I felt a quick wind breeze brush past my window. I instinctively looked only to find nothing, creepy. I went over and shut my window while scanning the forest a distance away from my window. Something deep inside there made me feel some kind of attraction, nature, the cool breeze. I was suddenly feeling that I wasn’t supposed to be in bed right now, I should be running free appreciating the nature. I was unintentionally opening the window again..

“you are supposed to be resting” a voice startled me up to my awareness. I slowly turned and sauntered over to my bed. “It’s not safe tonight, it’s never safe during full moons” uncle stark leisurely sat on the edge of my bed. “We have loose bears running wild in our forests and some spotted wolves , the full moon kinda gives them some kind of connection to nature. Their desire to run freely is multiplied.” Uncle stark stood up then headed over to the half-closed window. He closed the window firmly then drew the curtains “ it’s best if it remains shut”

Sleep wasn’t coming as I hoped it would, even after drinking a full jug of milk. My thoughts kept drifting outside towards the forests. If it were not for the howls I kept hearing, I would have already sprinted into the forest. The fear of the wolves and bears kept me tucked in my beddings, I didn’t have enough strength to take out one. I wasn’t afraid, I was being cautious. At times I would hear thumping just outside my window, it piqued my interest but I was not yet ready to face a bear.

It reached a point where I heard a growl then the sound of a soft human whimper, I didn’t hesitate to approach my window and draw a small opening in the curtain. All was bright, and clear. No sign of any human or a bear or a wolf, it was almost like any normal full moon night. Only I knew better than what my eyes had to offer. My eyes trailed over to the forest, I spotted a pair of yellow eyes staring back at me. It’s body wasn’t visible, only its eyes. Though it was bright, it was either the animal hid itself perfectly or its skin was real dark. I felt like the right logical decision to make was to quickly go back to bed and hide but I wanted to stare back at it. The animal didn’t back down it only squinted its eyes then lowered them as if in a challenge.

We were in an eye battle for a while before a howl made me panic consequently making me loose focus for a second there. The animal wasn’t there again, its yellow eyes were no more to be seen. I sighed in frustration at the animal thinking I backed down. I lingered at the window for more than an hour but I didn’t spot anything again. I half-heartedly retreated to my bed and forced myself to sleep. I wasn’t well aware it was only a couple of hours till dawn.
