Chapter 23
Chapter 23
Zoey was naturally aware of Mabel’s wicked intentions.
She had only wanted to see her father. No one would have noticed that she had gone there empty- handed.
But now it would be embarrassing for her to go on stage in front of all the guests and show that she hadn’t brought any gifts for him.
As the eldest daughter, she wore such a luxurious, eye–catching evening dress but didn’t even prepare a gift for her father. Wouldn’t that just make her look bad?
“Cyrus, did you really prepare a gift? I’ll talk to the hostess and tell her that we won’t be going on stage, okay?” Zoey asked.
“The gift has long been ready.”
Cyrus took out his phone and sent a message, “Send it to the birthday banquet. Be sure to hand it to Mr. Cyrus Johnson personally.”
“Got it.”
After handing Mira over to Cecilia, Cyrus stretched out his hand and said, “Zoey, let’s go.”
Cecilia advised, “Cyrus, just quit while you’re ahead. There are so many guests here. Please don’t embarrass Zoey.”
“Aunt Ceci, can you please stop lecturing Daddy? He won’t lie to Mommy again,” Mira whispered.
“You’re truly a good daughter. Cecilia was speechless.
Cyrus stood there with an outstretched hand. All eyes were on them. Zoey could only bite the bullet and put her long, beautiful white–gloved hand in Cyrus‘ hand.
She walked onto the stage, her graceful and enchanting figure on full display.
The men were envious of Cyrus. How could this guy have such a beautiful lady as his wife?
Under Mabel’s instructions, the hostess laughed and exclaimed, “Wow! Mr. Clarke’s eldest daughter,
Zoey, is indeed the most beautiful lady in Jorsproburgh. But isn’t it a bit unseemly for you to come up here empty–handed?”
Since she was already in the limelight, Zoey could only lower her head in shame.
On the contrary, Cyrus replied calmly, “My gift is relatively fresh. It will be delivered in ten minutes. Please let the others present their gifts first.”
*Fresh? It can’t be cabbage, right?” the hostess asked sarcastically.
Peals of scornful laughter erupted below the stage.
At the side, Wallace’s old face flushed with shame as he snapped quietly, “Just host this properly. Don’t

make trouble!”
Only then did the hostess stop her ridicule. She proceeded to show off Phoebe’s gifts.
Phoebe had bought Wallace a wheelchair. It was the most expensive smart electric wheelchair in the
world.
“My gift is a wheelchair that will allow Dad to stand up so that he can take care of himself,” Phoebe
introduced as she demonstrated its functions by pressing the remote control.
The wheelchair could automatically lift the patient upright for the convenience of urinating.

“Ms. Clarke, you’re such a thoughtful daughter. Such high–tech imported goods must be very expensive,” the hostess praised.
“It’s only over 200 thousand dollars. It’s nothing compared to my brother’s precious gift. But some people
just won’t be able to afford it in their lifetime,” Phoebe said with a smirk.
Felix was carrying a golden gift box with luxurious and exquisite packaging. Waving it before Cyrus and Zoey, he said mysteriously, “You probably can’t afford such a treasure even in ten lifetimes.”
Zoey was ridiculed so much that she felt ashamed and couldn’t look anyone in the eye. She was just asking for trouble when she came onto the stage.
The prices of these gifts were indeed beyond what Cyrus could afford.
Adding fuel to the fire, the hostess chuckled and said, “How can a son–in–law compare with a son? After
all, you’re the successor of the Clarke family’s business. I can’t wait to find out what treasure is in the box.”
Felix let out a laugh as he opened the box. “This is a rare eight–year–old dried Dragon White Herb. I bought
it for three million dollars through a friend.”
An uproar broke out in the audience. He was indeed a respectable son!
Unexpectedly, Cyrus couldn’t help snickering.
Felix walked up to Cyrus and pointed at his face. He yelled, “What the hell are you laughing at? Has a loser like you ever heard of such a high–end product like the Dragon White Herb?”
Frightened, Zoey quickly nudged Cyrus. “Cyrus, please stop.”
