That Forever: Chapter 17
I’m sitting in another designer shop in full white wedding dress mode with the moms when Chase texts me.
Chase: How’s the great wedding dress hunt going?
Me: How is spring break with the dads?
Chase: Actually really fun.
Me: That’s good. I found a really pretty dress. One I love. At the shop right now actually.
Chase: Does your mom like it? Do you think it’s the one she will choose?
Me: Um, this one would be for me. Like someday. In the future. Like when I get married.
Chase: You mean, like when WE get married?
Me: Yeah.
Chase: You should try it on.
Me: No, I can’t.
Chase: Sure you can.
As I’m texting Chase, I go over to look closer at the dress. I’m standing still, staring at it in awe, when Jennifer comes to stand next to me.
“That dress is gorgeous. Not sure if it’s what your mom is looking for though,” she says.
“It might be what I’m looking for,” I blurt out.
“You should try it on then,” she says, taking the dress off the rack and handing it to the salesperson. “She wants to try this on.”
“Oh, no, I don’t. This is my mom’s thing.”
Mom peeks her head out of the dressing room.
Jennifer holds up the dress. “Gorgeous, right? I think Dani should try it on.”
“I agree,” my mom surprises me by saying.
“But I don’t want to, like, jinx anything. I’m not even engaged.”
“You’re not going to jinx it. In fact, if you and Chase are already talking marriage, you’ll have to try on a lot of dresses at some point to find the one. Nothing wrong with having some fun now. I mean, it’s just a dress,” she says, downplaying it.
But I know it’s not just a dress. It is literally my dress.
