Chapter 88
Kapri's P.O.V.
*************
"Maverick is sitting with us at lunch now?" Molly asked as she stared at Maverick.
"I'm right here, Mol," Maverick grumbled.
"Yeah, I noticed. Hence the question," She said.
Trevor sat down next to Molly, and kissed her cheek.
"Cut him some slack babe. They explained everything to us on Saturday." He said to her.
Molly crossed her arms, and glared at Maverick.
"Really Molly?" I asked, annoyed.
"Yes really." She said. "He broke your heart. He's been bullying you since elementary school. Now you two are dating? It's weird."
I rolled my eyes.
This is all Molly said all day Saturday. Even though I explained everything. Maverick even explained his side of things. Which was surprising for me. Although, there was clearly still something he was leaving out. The person he was on the phone with when I overheard his conversation.
I tried to ask Maverick about that several times over the last few days. He wouldn't give me a straight answer. All Maverick kept saying was that I didn't need to worry. That he and his dad are handling everything. Whatever the hell that means.
"Speaking of the weekend, how was your guys' date?" Megan asked cheerfully.
I beamed.
"It was amazing. Maverick wasn't a jerk at all. I was so surprised." I gushed.
Maverick pinched my thigh under the table.
"Ow!" I said as I slapped his arm.
Maverick smiled, kissed my cheek, and then slung his arm over my shoulders. Many people in the cafeteria started to whisper around us. I tried not to shrink into Maverick.
It's only Tuesday, and it was like this all day yesterday too. Maverick and I walked into the school hand in hand. He kissed me when he dropped me off at every classroom, and sat with us at lunch.
There were even a couple of girls that tried to flirt with Maverick. I think it was to see if he was actually taking me seriously. I wish I would have taken a picture of their faces when he told them to get lost. It was even better when Savannah flat out asked if we were a couple. Maverick threw his arm around me, kissed the side of my head, and said 'what's it look like to you?'
I've never thought Maverick was cool. Ever. Like ever. Until that moment.
"Our date went smoothly. Thanks for all your help." Maverick told Megan. "Her help?" I asked.
"She got me the reservation at the restaurant." He told me.
"My mom runs the place," Megan said.
"Oh," I said. "Well, they had great food and service. 10 out of 10. Highly recommend." I told her.
Megan snorted.
"So, the two of you went on a date. You're officially a couple. Even the whole school knows now." Megan said. "What's next for you two?"
I chewed on my bottom lip.
"Are you two telling your parents?" Molly asked me.
Brooke snorted. Maverick kicked her under the table.
"Ow! You fu.cking jerk." She complained.
Maverick only glared at her.
Molly raised a brow at me.
"I.. Well.. I.." I trailed off.
"She's too chicken sh,it to tell her mom," Brooke told them.
I put my hand on Maverick's knee just when he was about to kick Brooke again. He stopped, and looked down at me. I glared up at him.
"Do not kick her again you jerk." I stated.
"Why am I always the jerk?" He mumbled.
I rolled my eyes, and looked back at our friends.
"Brooke's right though. I'm too chicken sh,it." I whined. "Mom is going to be so disappointed in me."
Molly shook her head.
"April would never be disappointed in you over this. You're way over thinking it." Megan said.
"No she isn't," Molly chimed in. "April is totally going to freak. Her goodie two shoes daughter sleeping with her husband's son?! She's going to lose her sh.it. Especially if she finds out that you two have been sleeping together. You can kiss sneaking into each other's rooms goodbye." She ranted.
I paled.
I knew it. Telling Mom is a terrible idea. She's going to be so disappointed in me. Mom is going to freak out. I won't be able to sleep next to Maverick anymore. It'll be harder to sneak around. That means.. no more showers together, no more cuddling all night, no
more... se.x.
"I can't do it. I can't." I rushed out.
Maverick grabbed my hands in his, and squeezed them.
"Hey, relax okay? Nothing is happening right away." He told me. "We can wait to tell her."
"Wait for how long?" Molly asked. "Kapri is never going to be able to keep a secret like this from her mom. Do you know how close they are?"
Maverick turned his head to give her a look that says 'really bi.tch?'.
"Babe, maybe we should just let them figure it out." Trevor told Molly.
Maverick shook his head, and turned his attention back to me.
"Why don't we wait until school is over? After Dad already has the apartment paid for, and we're registered in school?" He asked.
My jaw dropped.
"That's like.. four months away." I said incredulously.
"It will give you time to grow some balls," he replied.
I scoffed.
"Easy for you to say. Your dad knows," I said.
"Your dad knows already?" Trevor asked.
I tuned them out as Maverick told them about Liam keeping tabs on us.
These past few days have been.. crazy. No one ever talks about what happens in the movies after the girl and guy get together. There are still so many things I'm worried about.
One, my mom. Telling her about Maverick and I. That has me extremely worried. I have no idea how she's going to act.
Part of me hopes that she'll be happy for me. I've never had a boyfriend. Never been interested in dating before. Mom and I were always so opposite in that aspect.
Mom also wouldn't have to worry about me getting hurt, or being treated badly. She knows Maverick. Not that that is necessarily a good thing. His track record is... well it's bad. However, Maverick is different with me. Even Liam thinks so. So maybe Mom won't be as worried.
Although, it is weird that our parents are married. Maybe Mom will think that's too weird. Maverick and I are supposed to be siblings in her eyes.
Oh my god! What will Jasmyn and Jesse think!?
Who am I kidding? I doubt they'll care at all.
Another thing that I'm worried about.. Who was Maverick on the phone with that day? I know that he said not to worry about it. That Liam is handling it, but.. who was it exactly? What did they have on Maverick that kept him away from me? I want to know.
And three, the most important worry I have... My father.
Where is he? Is he long gone? Did he run as far as he could get since being released? Or.. is he near here? Is he waiting for the perfect chance to.. face me, or something?
Mom seemed to think that he might. I mean, she's really scared that he'll find me. Does he really care about me, though? I mean... he raped Mom.. Was he really.. trying to have a kid?
And what about the girl that I saw in the coffee shop? Is she really my sister? Why haven't I seen her since?
I wish that I would have taken her number or something. If she really was my sister.. Then she probably feels the same way I do.. er.. did. I'd like to help her if I can.
She looked like she was about ten years older than me. Maybe she's already dealing with her emotions well, and wanted to help me. And I just blew her off. I feel like such sh.it over that. She was probably just trying to help me, and I totally blew her off. "What are you thinking about baby?" Maverick asked lowly.
I looked up to see our friends all chatting together. Maverick is looking down at me worried. I gave him a small smile.
"Just.. the same things. The person you're hiding from me... My mom.. My.. dad.. And the girl who told me she was my sister." I told him.
"Dad has someone looking into her Kap. Don't worry. We'll find out who she is." He promised me.
"I just.. Where did she go? She had no problem finding me here. Then she was just.. gone. I know that I've pretty much been under house arrest, but.. It's just weird that she hasn't.. I don't know, come to the house or something. I mean, she came all the way here to find me. Why did she leave after one, very short conversation?" I said.
"You're overthinking things babe. She was probably worried about you after he got released. Maybe she feels bad for pretty much telling you the truth, or pushing you to find out I guess." Maverick mumbled. "Maybe she left after that because she thought she was overstepping."
"That just.. doesn't make sense to me. If she was going to leave so easily.. why not just.. write me a letter or something instead of coming out here. She could have found my social media's.. There were other options. I thought she came out here to see me face to face. But then she just leaves?" I ranted.
"Kap," Maverick said as she squeezed my hands. "You've been under a lot of stress lately. You're still freaked out about your s***m donor being out of prison. I'm sure that it's nothing, baby. Dad will find her, and you can ask her then why she left. Don't worry about
it."
I leaned my head on his shoulder.
"Maybe I'm just scared," I admitted.
Maverick kissed the top of my head.
"Don't worry baby," he said. "I'll never let anything happen to you."
