Chapter 84
Chapter 84
Letitia swung the car door open. “Elgin, I know who’s good to me, and I’m sure you ain’t on that list!”
After stepping out, she deliberately slammed the door with a bang.
Like Elgin’s the only one with a temper? What about her?
And at least, she didn’t have to pick up trash or walk to work anymore.
She’s Letitia, top of her class, skilled as all get-out. If it hadn’t been for Elgin meddling, she’d have been killing it in her own field by
now!
So, Letitia stopped a cab and said, “Could you catch up to that Rolls Royce up ahead?”
“You got it. Hold on tight!”
Cabbies are the ultimate city slickers, masters of the roads. A few slick moves and sharp turns, and in less than ten minutes, the taxi was cruising alongside the Rolls Royce.
“How’s that for a ride, kiddo?” The driver was puffing his chest with pride. “Doesn’t matter how pricey the car is, it’s all about driving it like a pro!”
Letitia rolled down the window, looked at the Rolls Royce next to her, and gave the finger.
Inside, Elgin’s eyes narrowed. Just as he rolled down his window, the cab moved, zipping through traffic and vanishing from sight.
Elgin’s face turned dark. Well, well, Letitia’s really stepping up her game, daring to provoke him!
Back at the office, walking into the Jewelry Department, Letitia saw her co-workers buzzing around Vidonia, gossiping –
“Dang, that’s blingy.”
“It looked tacky on paper, but the real deal screams money, honey.”
‘I could cry a river, won’t make enough in a lifetime for that ring.
“Mrs. Ramirez is one lucky lady.”
Vidonia, unimpressed, chimed in, “How’s that pretty? Looks like something a nouveau riche would flaunt.”
“Is the wedding ring done?” Letitia chimed in, “Let me have a look.”
“Not yet, it’s still in France. I just got some photos. But if all goes well, we’ll have the actual piece by early next month.”
Letitia flipped through the pics, chuckled, and kept her thoughts to herself.
“I gotta write the blurb for this wedding ring,” Vidonia grumbled, raking her fingers through her hair. “It’s nearly taking the life out
of me!”
Knowing full well the ring was meant for Shela, Vidonia gave Samson a hard time!
“Just approach it like any other job and keep your cool,” Letitia comforted her, “Can’t wait to get out of this chaos and let those lovebirds say their vows.”
“Lovebirds? More like a bitch couple! Vidonia retorted.
Vidonia’s mouth had no filter, she spoke her mind with zero sugar-coating.
Letitia covered her mouth, “Shh, watch your words.
“I ain’t wrong, though. Elgin’s really got a knack for being a pain, making you design the ring, me promote it, and Shela reap the rewards… Why should she?”
“Forget it, I don’t care about that stuff,” Letitia shrugged. “But there’s something I wanted to ask you about.”
“Go ahead.”
“My mom’s emerald bracelet broke, and I’ve tried everything, but I can’t fix it…
Carefully, Letitia took out the silk-wrapped emerald bracelet from her bag.
“How’d it get this bad? It’ll be hard to restore it,” Vidonia inspected it. “I’ll ask a friend for you.”
“Thanks,” Letitia saw a glimmer of hope again.
But she missed the middle-aged woman at a nearby workstation, fuming at her.
Letitia, that woman, why’s she on a roll in the Jewelry Department?
Chapter 1
Mr. Stewart admires her work, Ms. Bailey’s like a sister to her, and word is Mr. Ramirez is on good terms with her too
But in terms of rank, she’s higher up than Letitia!
Letitia’s just a designer, while her own title’s department manager, just under Vidonia.
After pondering, she walked over, “Designer Sanders.”
“Ms. Odetta, hello, Letitia nodded politely. “What can I do for you?”
Odetta, the manager in the Jewelry Department, a business school hotshot, usually handled market and client relations, quite the capable one, but didn’t cross paths with Letitia much.
Odetta, with a commanding tone, said. This afternoon I’ve got a meeting with a big client. Design’s not my forte, I won’t explain it well. So, you’re coming with me”
“Alright, Letitia agreed
“Two o’clock, don’t be late. And bring plenty of materials, this client’s a big deal!”
Without waiting for a reply, Odetta turned and left
A colleague who witnessed this sympathized with Letitia, Ms. Odetta shouldn’t talk to you like that even Mr. Stewart doesn’t act so high and mighty”
“No worries, she’s probably just swamped with work, and she is my boss, after all”
Letitia didn’t dwell on it and got ready for the meeting
Two o clock on the dot, Letitia was at the Ramirez Group’s entrance.
Turns out, Odetta was already there, looking quite peeved, “You dare make me wait for you?”
“I’m not late, Ms Odetta.
Odetta couldn’t argue, glanced at the papers in Letitia’s hand. That all you brought? If the client’s unhappy and we lose this deal, can you handle that?
This is just the blueprints. The rest is on my flash drive, and all I need is a computer.”
With nothing to nitpick, Odetta huffed and left first, and Letitia followed suit.
En route, Odetta mentioned, “We’re meeting the president of the Thompson Group today. I brought just you to give you a chance to shine, Letitia, you better appreciate it.”
“Understood, Ms Odetta.”
Also, don’t get any fancy ideas, Odetta took a few looks at her, “Mr. Thompson is quite the catch-handsome, successful, and loaded. He’s out of your league, girl.”
“Oh. Letitia casually responded while looking up information on the Thompson Group.
The Thompson Group and the Ramirez Group had been partners for years, with a personal friendship that went back to the Hawley generation.
The Thompson Group owned several processing plants along the coast, including one production line dedicated to high-end processing for Ramirez Group’s jewelry.
Under the leadership of the new president, the Thompson Group was on the rise, quickly becoming the second-largest company in AquaCity.
Letitia gazed at the man on her phone screen-Neil Thompson.
Just from the photo, he was definitely a looker-gentlemanly, with an air of sophistication that suggested he was a well-read charmer.
He had the kind of vibe that felt like a breath of fresh spring air.
Upon arriving at the Thompson Group, Letitia was led by the secretary to meet Neil.
