Chapter 43
Chapter 43
It was an accident! She didn’t want this to happen either!
Elgin snorted with a hint of frost, “You think I can’t see what’s going on?”
Letitia rolled her eyes in frustration, “Think whatever you want, I’m going to bed.”
No sooner had her words faded than Elgin dipped down and sealed her lips with his. The wispy strands of hair from his forehead fell, tickling her eyes and causing a distracting itch.
This time, Elgin’s kiss was gentle as a feather touch. Not like before, when he was all rough and forceful.
Just as Letitia’s hand lifted in a feeble attempt to push him away, he caught it and hoisted it over her head.
“Should I grant your wish?” Elgin’s voice was a low growl, “So you don’t have to scheme to seduce me”
“I didn’t… mmph.”
Suddenly, Elgin turned rough again, his kiss fierce enough to draw blood from her lips.
Letitia’s brows knitted in pain. The more she resisted, the harder he pressed down on her.
Out of options, Letitia bit him hard, and the taste of blood filled both of their mouths.
As Elgin pulled back, his hands braced beside her ears, he stared into her eyes with an unfathomable depth, not even blinking.
A drop of blood adorned the corner of his mouth, giving him a dangerously enticing look.
Letitia couldn’t fathom his thoughts and kept silent.
Elgin was a ticking bomb one wrong word and she’d be in for a world of hurt.
After what felt like an eternity, Elgin finally spoke, “…Sometimes I really wish you’d succeed in seducing me. But I can’t give you what you want!”
He raised his hand and cleaned the blood on her lips.
Letitia maintained her silence.
This version of Elgin was the most dangerous, looking like he could blow a fuse at any given moment.
He got up to leave, his voice icy, “Get dressed!”
Looking down, Letitia realized that in the scuffle, her neckline had become loose, exposing the soft curves underneath.
She quickly covered up and dashed into the bathroom for cover.
Best not to cross paths with Elgin right now!
Facing her reflection in the mirror, with blood on her lips, her hair a mess, and her cheeks flushed like blooming peach blossoms… anyone could tell what had just happened.
About to turn on the tap, she heard the ringtone of a cellphone outside.
Elgin answered, “Hello?”
Then, he rapped on the door, “Letitia, get to the hospital.”
Something felt off to her, and she asked, “What happened?”
Mark’s condition has suddenly worsened. They need you, be prepared for a blood draw!”
Letitia clenched her teeth.
Worsened? She guessed it was Shela and her father’s plan to bleed her dry!
Three days of blood draws, no one could save the baby in her belly!
Come out! Did you hear me? Elgin’s voice grew louder as there was no response, “Letitia!”
Chapter 43
Unexpectedly, Letitia opened the door swiftly, “Alright, let’s go.”
Her willingness to cooperate took Elgin by surprise.
After a brief pause, he turned, “Follow me!”
Outside the ICU.
Shela was still sobbing, “Mr. Ramirez, if anything happens to my day, what should we do… I’ve been worried sick these past few days, can’t eat, can’t sleep, I’m terrified of losing him.”
“It won’t happen, Elgin consoled her.
She clung to Elgin’s arm, refusing to let go. Elgin frowned but didn’t push her away.
The doctor appeared, “The patient’s condition is still critical, and there’s a shortage in the city’s blood supply, so…”
The implication was clear, they still needed Letitia’s blood to save the day.
Shela feigned concern, “Letitia, I’m counting on you. Even though it’s your fault my dad is like this, he’ll definitely thank you once he’s better.”
Letitia stood firm, unmoved.
“Mr. Ramirez.. Shela quickly sought backup, “Please, say something, help me out here.”
Elgin glanced at Letitia.
He knew what drawing blood for three consecutive days meant.
Yet, he still said, “Letitia, go and have your blood drawn.”
“Okay.” Letitia agreed. Her prompt response was a stark contrast to her earlier reluctance.
Shela was taken aback, You… you agreed?”
“Yeah, I’m willing to help, Letitia replied. “But, before we do that, I have a small request.”
Elgin nodded, “Go ahead.”
“I want to see the director first. I need to see how he’s doing to feel at ease.”
Shela objected, “No way.”
She didn’t understand why Letitia had suddenly made this request, but she knew she couldn’t let anyone see her dad.
What if… they found out the truth? Her dad never had a stroke! This was all a lie!
“Why not?” Letitia pressed. “I just want to take a quick look, and you won’t agree? Is there something you don’t want people to see?”
“Of course not! It’s just that I, I…” Caught off guard by Letitia’s question, Shela was at a loss for words.
“Then let me in. I feel so guilty for causing your father’s stroke with my emotional outburst.”
“Once he’s better, you can…”
“Fine, Elgin cut in, “go ahead, two minutes.”
With Elgin’s permission, Shela had no choice.
Any more resistance would seem too deliberate and arouse suspicion.
So, Shela said, “Then… I’ll go in too!”
“Sure,” Letitia nodded. “Let’s all go in together. After all these days, we should know exactly how your father is doing.” Before Shela could react, Letitia, pulling Elgin along, stepped into the ICU.
Shela, frustrated, hurriedly followed.
in the ICU, Mark lay on the bed, his forehead wrapped in bandages, surrounded by medical equipment. He seemed to be
a grave condition.
Letitia approached the bed squatted down, and took Mark’s hand, I’m really sorry, sit. If only I’d known you were sick, I would’ve accepted your gift. Ah, it’s all my fault”
While feigning regret, she surreptitiously squeezed his hand.
Mark’s hand was warm an unconscious patient shouldn’t have such warmth!
Letitia pinched Mark’s hand hard, and his eyes fluttered.
Bingo! If Mark woke up, there’d be no need for a blood draw. And who knows, maybe she could even expose their scheme!
Just as Letitia was about to squeeze harder, Shela suddenly rushed over, “Stay away from my dad!” She was about to shove Letitia away
Letitia was still gripping Mark’s hand, not letting go for anything
“What’s the big deal? I’m just having a chat with the director, Letitia said. “Don’t freak out on me. The guy’s got tubes all over him; don’t mess things up!”
“Talk is talk, but keep your hands off my dad!”
Shela was pushing hard against Letitia, who was clinging onto Mark’s hand for dear life.
The two were having a silent tug-of-war
