Chapter 38
Chapter 38
Elgin bent down and helped Shela to her feet.
Years ago, because of Dr. Sanders’ screw-up, he had already lost a father he respected Now, history seemed to be chillingly repeating itself.
How could Elgin let Shela go through the same ordeal as him? After all, Mark was going to be his father-in-law.
“Letitia, you have to donate blood,” Elgin said, his eyes and brows icy cold, “You don’t have a say in this.”

There it was again. She was always at his beck and call, living like a puppet!
“So, whether it’s my fault or not, I have to donate blood to save him?” Letitia’s voice trembled as she asked, “Is that right?”
“Yes”
“Even if donating blood could seriously harm my health, you’d still insist on it?”
Elgin narrowed his eyes slightly. It’s just drawing blood, and you’ll recover after a couple of days.”
“Yeah, right, Shela chimed in quickly, “It’s not going to kill you or damage your health, Letitia, please save my father!”
Letitia didn’t buy that for a second. From the moment she met Mark, she had fallen into their trap!
Elgin didn’t know she was pregnant, but they were crystal clear about it! How could a pregnant woman donate blood? Besides, Shela would surely bribe the nurse to take a lot of her blood!
“Go now” Elgin ordered sternly, “Nurse, take her.”
Letitia turned and ran.
Elgin stood still, uttering just one sentence, “You know what the consequences of running away are.”
Her legs felt as if they were cemented to the ground, unable to lift. Her mother was in his hands, her father was in jail, and his injury from boiling water had just healed…
That was something Elgin had allowed Shela to do. He had Shela’s back.
‘It’s just a few vials of blood, it won’t cost you your life,” Elgin said. “Cooperate and it’ll be easier on you.”
Letitia closed her eyes in despair, “You’ll never understand.”
“What’s there to understand?” he asked, “Tell me.”
Shela echoed, “Yeah, tell us.”
She knew Letitia wouldn’t dare reveal her pregnancy!
Sure enough, Letitia fell silent.
“The blood donation room is this way,” the nurse approached, “Come with me.”
The nurse seemed to be holding Letitia’s hand, but in reality, she was dragging her along forcefully.
Letitia looked back.
Shela was bowing her head, Elgin was comforting her, his hand on her shoulder.
From Letitia’s angle, she could see the smirk on Shela’s face.
Inside the blood donation room.
Letitia shuddered unconsciously at the sight of the long needle in the nurse’s hand.
She was terrified, had always been scared of injections, let alone blood drawing.
She wanted to run, to scream, but Elgin’s threat forced her to sit in the chair, enduring both physical and emotional
torture
“How much are you going to take? Letitia swallowed hard.
“Oh, as much as is needed.” As the nurse spoke, the needle pierced into her vein.
Red blood flowed continuously from her body into the blood bag.
“That’s enough!” Letitia said, “You can only take that much at a time!”
But the nurse didn’t stop, even holding her arm down, “Don’t move, it’s not my fault if you get hurt.”
“Stop, it’s too much now…” Letitia’s words sounded especially feeble.
The nurse took a full six hundred milliliters, “That should do it.”
Letitia bit her lower lip, feeling cold and weak all over.
A normal person could only donate four hundred at most, but she, a pregnant woman, had six hundred milliliters taken
in one go.
Shela… what a cunning plan!
It probably wouldn’t stop at this one time; there would be a next time, and the time after that! Until her body was too weak to keep the child!
Footsteps came from the doorway Elgin walked in, “Done?”
“Yes, the nurse replied respectfully, “I’ll take it to the emergency room right away.”
Elgin waved his hand dismissively.
He stood in front of Letitia, Mark had a stroke because of you, so you donating the blood is only fair.”
“Do you even know how much blood they took from me?”
Elgin spoke indifferently, “As much as was needed.”
He didn’t care, what mattered was saving a life.
Letitia gave a pale smile, “Heh… after all, Mark is your future father-in-law, his life means more to you than mine
“I have no father anymore, I can’t let Shela lose hers too.”
She couldn’t help but ask, “What the hell does Shela have that she’s so favored by you?”
“Because she’s my woman.”
Because they had slept together, because Shela had solved his problem with her body.
Letitia trembled, asking, “And what about me? What am I?”
“Letitia, you’re here to atone, not to enjoy yourself.”
She looked at Elgin’s handsome face, feeling cold and hopeless.
He lowered his head, saying, “… Your father killed mine, do you also want to kill Shela’s father? I won’t let that happen
“I didn’t hurt him!” Letitia enunciated each word, “I didn’t do anything!”
“I’ve seen the security footage, he just wanted to give you a gift, with a smile. But you?” Elgin asked, “You pushed him away, you were upset, and you even broke the gift.”
“Why would I accept his gift for no reason?”
“Mark had good intentions. You rejected them, pushed him away, broke the gift, leading to his emotional distress and stroke. So, it’s your fault.” Elgin looked at her, “Your blood donation to save him is justified.”
What a way to be justified. It felt like a knife cutting into her.
Mark and Shela had set up this whole scenario, targeting her.
No matter how much she was alerted, she had still failen into their trap. The current situation was totally against
“I was framed,” Letitia’s voice choked up. “The one who framed me knows how wronged I am.

But no one believed her.
She wanted to touch her belly, hoping the child was still safe, but Elgin was right there, and she didn’t dare to make the
gesture:
Letitia slowly stood up. “I’ll go first.”
Elgin looked on impassively.
She didn’t press on the spot where she had donated blood, and drops of fresh blood were visible against her pale skin.
Letitia felt so dizzy it was severe, barely managing to walk to the door, unable to hold on any longer, her vision going
dark.
Just before she fell, a pair of hands caught her, “Letitia!”
She tried hard to open her eyes but ultimately passed out.
Her baby…
Elgin looked at the woman in his arms, his brows deeply furrowed.
She’s super skinny, and her cheeks are totally pale. But… is he actually feeling sorry for her? He shouldn’t be getting all
emotional over her!
“Mr. Ramirez, the blood’s been taken to the ER, Shela hurried over, “Whoa, what’s happened to Letitia? I’ll help her to the
break room.
“Well.” Elgin handed Letitia over to her and took off from the hospital.
When Letitia came to, it was already night time.
