Taken by my mate; Second Chance

Chapter 36 - Third Try

AMBROSE

A lot of things in our room were broken, and even when the repairs were made it still needed another day until the smell from all the cleaners to get rid of the blood dissipated from the air. We had all been staying in Covyn’s room until it was done. By then Nova was losing it. I couldn’t leave her alone, partly due to her fear but mostly due to mine, so she was with myself, Covyn, or Ellion all day.

She hated the feeling of having a babysitter, reminding us whenever we were in private that she had seen more full moons than we’ve seen sunsets. Unfortunately, her tenure did not act as a significant defence against a wolven’s strength, and despite her accepting this she still argued every time I asked her to go with one of them while I had to work.

When she was with Covyn is his office she read or taunted him, excessively; from what I was told. Nova had figured out some secret or at least got the idea that he had one, and questioned him mercilessly. Not that any of us knew what she was talking about but her and Covyn. She used specific words and emphasis to bother him, but he stubbornly ignored her attempts.

The day our room was safe to return to, Ellion had gone to grab her from Covyn’s office while I finished up sparring for a new visitor’s assessment. I expected them back quickly, but Ellion sent me a quick message that he needed her help with something first. I had a feeling what it was and chuckled to myself as I finished up with my group for the day.

Sure enough, I acted on a hunch as I ran around to the garage only to find my mate waist deep under a car. Daley’s car had been slowly dying, mostly due to laziness. A part that needed replacing was wedged awkwardly in its place and needed a bunch of things removed to do the replacement, unless you had tiny hands.

“Ellion talked you into trying to save this thing, my Angel!” I called by way of greeting.

I caught sight of her legs wiggling in excitement even as her voice remained level. “It’s not hard, we’re almost through,” she assured.

“You know how to fix cars?” I asked, slipping my shoe off and running my foot on the inside of her leg by her ankle.

She giggled and scooted further under the car. “Puleez, I was practically there when cars were invented,” she teased. “Ellion! I’m done with my part under here, and if I get out from under this car I’m going with Ambrose to his room for a shower and you won’t see us until super!”

“Our room,” I replied cheekily. “And he might see me, you on the other hand might be …. tied up with something.”

I heard her adorable little giggle and saw the toes of her shoes flex as her toes curled. “Ellion!”

“I’m here, I’m here,” he returned quickly, running out from the storage room. “Sorry Nova, the part was hidden in a box under a shelf in the back.”

“You left her out here alone?” I barked in return, looking him over as he unwrapped the part and knelt beside Nova to hand it to her.

She pushed the old part out toward him and grabbed the new piece. “All of the doors were closed and set to chime when opened. He probably knew it was you walking in before I sensed you.”

“You’re defending him my love? I only worry about you.” I teased her, crouching down on her other side to rub her thigh soothingly.

The trolley she was laying on slid her farther under the car. “You have no reason to be jealous,” she giggled, “but since you went there, how many women did you fight with today?”

“One?” I returned questionably. “There aren’t many female fighters that come here for training.”

“And did you touch them?”

My eyebrow quirked in confusion. “It wasn’t a verbal assault, we were fighting for her assessment. Kinda hard to spar without contact.”

I heard the click of the wrench and the groaned as her knuckles slammed into the car when it slipped. She didn’t speak for a minute while I heard the wrench work again and then she was sliding tools out into Ellion’s shoe. She followed it out, inching out on the trolley with her heels, and looked at me with a small smear of blood and dirt over her cheek.

“Then you’ve touched another woman more than me today.” She made a high ‘hmph’ sound before smacking me in the chest with a rag and storming off towards the door.

I was stunned, staring after her wondering what I had done, but Ellion was chuckling, “what’s Covyn call her? Firecracker? He’s not wrong.”

“I don’t…” I looked at the rag in my hand that she’d hit me with and realized it wasn’t a rag.

I unfolded the small square length ways and thin bands of elastic sprung out of the next layer over my hand. I was holding her bra, which meant she wasn’t wearing one. The smell from the fabric was all her, cedar and gun powder, mixed with the sweeter notes of her tits. I inhaled the scent deeply, feeling it run through my soul to my cock, the sound loud enough for her to hear it and she started giggling as she ran away.

I barely heard Ellion chuckle something as I took off after her. She had already hit the stairs as I passed through doors, slowing her down significantly, though I still let her maintain her lead. By the time she hit the top she was panting slightly and I took them two at a time, catching her around her abdomen as she tried to open our bedroom door. I spun her around, basking in the sound of her laughter.

I caught sight of Covyn down the hall, looking sadly towards us and I startled, putting her down. She didn’t notice his presence at all and darted into the room. Soon after her sweater flew through the open door and wrapped around my face as she continued to laugh before I heard the shower.

A slight smirk moved over Covyn’s face as Sequoia, in her cat form, pushed passed him to go into his room but he never looked away from me as he chuckled lightly, “third times the charm?”

Sadness entered my own smile now and one side of it dropped entirely. “I would claim her as mine again and again, but the why… It’s hard to think about.”

He nodded in understanding. “She doesn’t seem to care though, so don’t ruin it for her, eh?”

He was right, she had been waiting for our room to be fixed up very impatiently. She would nip at my neck whenever she could, wrapping her arms around me and humming into the skin there afterwards. I could now remember both times she had bit me in the past, and I knew that her also gaining the additional memory brought her a small sadness. The sharp keratin peaks of her beak as a phoenix translated to just the rows of small sharp teeth when her animal came forward in her human form, which had left a unique scar the first time she had marked me.

Back then, Nova hadn’t understood why I wanted to mark her, or why we did it in general, but she had let me. Through the feeling of the mark she had turned her head to quickly mark me in return, forcing us to tell my pack why her mark looked like that. My people were apparently more accepting back then.

I realized Covyn was still waiting for me to say something and I tried to smile. “Yea, her.. incident seems to have affected her the least.”

“She’d do anything to make you happy, if something is holding you back, you need to talk to…”

“Ambrose?!” Nova called from the bathroom, it sounded like she had opened it a crack. “Are you okay?” I felt a slight tug through our connection as she reached out to me with it.

“I’m fine, I’ll be right there,” I called back.

“I’ll be done in the shower and ready for a nap by the time you get here. If you want to shoot the shit with Covyn just say so.”

She didn’t sound like she was nagging me, or even that she was bothered I had kept her waiting. I could tell she was teasing me, and that she would really be okay if I decided to not join her in the shower. Covyn, however, just smirked and went into his room before I heard him yelling about someone being heavy handed with the scotch.
