Chapter 15 - Multi-Talented
EVADIENE
I smiled but it was forced and my words didn’t come out as strong as I wanted them to. “No, nothing abnormal.”
“For a human you mean, normal for me would be wolven, but you clearly don’t heal as fast as we do.” Tina took the hand given after Sequoia moved to lay around my shoulders.
I nodded. “That’s true, normal for a human then”
Tina ran a couple of checks over my throat. She told me I should continue to take it easy and try to keep talking to a minimal if I wanted to avoid lasting damages. She then requested Ambrose not lick the salve off my hand and let it absorb in, after he had admitted to tending to it himself. At the end of everything she asked if I had been marked and asked to check on it herself. Ambrose was quite proud when she said it was looking good for less than a day old.
We were on our way back to his room when Covyn called him and asked if he could go to Loading bay one to supervise the grocery delivery while he’s on a call. All of their deliveries came in on one side, so that area could be more easily monitored and kept separate from anyone who would be shifted. The delivery wasn’t due for an hour but it was a long walk so we headed that way immediately.
Along the way I was introduce to a lot of people that I wouldn’t say I would remember well. A lot of them were coming in from training due to the back hall we had chosen to take, so they were either completely naked or wearing shorts that barely classified as a covering. Ambrose seemed to think it was hilarious, and well I recognized that only he could feel my embarrassment, he seemed to forget that I could feel his jealousy and possessiveness.
I could tell he was pretty disappointed to be moving farther away from the bedroom through these interactions, as he wanted me to himself, and I had to agree. I could feel myself starting to crash from a short sleep and long day. This last task and the walk back would be enough to put me to sleep and I looked forward to curling up with Ambrose beside me.
The loading bay looked like any other warehouse and they had racking, fridges and freezers to store all the incoming supplies. It was fairly empty inside, which we both found odd but a quick check in a staff area had everyone signing out for their break shortly before we arrived.
“This is ridiculous, who scheduled this?” Ambrose asked, flipping through the book as we saw the truck had already backed up. “Perfect. Alpha will have someone’s head this time. They’re always forgetting deliveries or not making space, and if that truck sits too long at the door we get the charge.”
“So what’s the problem?” I asked, going over to open the bay door and release the ramp onto the back of the truck.
“All of the forklift operators are off at the same time,” he grumbled, and I felt bad for my frustrated Beta.
“You go yell at them, I’ll take care of things here,” I offered, watching the truck driver exit the vehicle and come towards us before returning to see Ambrose’s face. “Do you trust me? You won’t get charged,” I assured and he cautiously agreed and stalked off to find the missing men.

Ambrose
They were, as expect, outside smoking and eating. When I came out they were thankful it wasn’t the Alpha, but that didn’t last long as I began yelling. This happened with nearly every delivery and it was at the point where we would start docking the manager’s pay for scheduling shit like this all the time. That seemed to perk him up and they all started packing up their crap to get back inside.
When I got back inside I could hear one of the electric, ride on pallet jacks in use and figured Evadiene had convinced the truck driver to offload it himself. However, I was just as surprised as the men I’d gone to retrieve to see Evadiene on the pallet jack, zipping over the loading ramp and into the freezer with a meat. She had nearly emptied the truck already, now dealing with all the perishables that would have been behind a temp wall.
“Evadiene?” I called.
She zipped back onto the truck and removed the last skid, moving it to join the others in the freezer.
“Just a second,” she called in return, moving the jack into a stack of skids and putting it on the truck, before parking the machine and going up to the driver.
“I brought you sixteen skids, and you only returned me twelve,” the old man grumbled and Evadiene took the clipboard from him.
She popped her hip out and eyed him through her eyebrows. “Really? If you’re going to betechnicalabout it you gave me tenusableskids, and then a bunch of broken, cardboard, and trash pallets. Twelve was generous and you know it. Let’s not forget you broke the seal before I got to check it, and your temp wall was off by more than a few degrees. Because I temp gunned the outside and interior of all my perishable stacks I’m going to let it slide, but if you want to bitch about four skids…”
“Twelve is fine,” he said quickly, tapping the paper for her to sign.
“Next time you’re in here I want these pallets numberedproperly, and you better have that temp wall installed correctly. If this place goes down due to food poisoning not only will you be out of a job, but your job will be out of a license,” she threatened. “I’m trusting that it’s all there because your wrap job looks like someone’s grandfather did it, grandma never would have let that fly, but I’m writing subject to inspection because you were rude.” She handed the clipboard back to him and waited for him to take it.
The man sneered at her, “anything else there princess?”
She smirked. “Well since you asked, you have a piss poor attitude for someone who has been getting away with stealing from us. I corrected the time on the dock sheet, and I made sure to wave at our security camera when you finally graced with me with your presence, and look I’ll wave again now that I’m done with it.” She then leaned in real close to him and grinned. “Have a nice day sir, and don’t try to dick around here again.”
The man pouted and stormed off, closed up his truck and pealing away. The guys I had gone to retrieve started cheering and running to her, but I got between them and growled for them to keep their distance. Still they cheered and Evadiene looked confused.
“What?” She asked after about a minute of it.
“That was very impressive,” our lead operator Clyde informed, and she didn’t believe him for a second.
She had to spend the next hour breaking down what she had said to the driver and basically wrote the “how-to-do-your-job” checklist for the men. She wasn’t thrilled that they hadn’t known to check for all of these things, even while admitting that wolven had heartier stomachs and it had never been a problem before.
“Holding them accountable so that everyone else they deliver to isn’t poisonedwould still be good, and I hate to throw off a good thing, but I’d also like to not die if I’m going to start eating here,” she returned to the operator with enough sass that he stopped mouthing off.
She showed them where to check forms, and how to avoid giving them any ground to stand on if they found issues with the shipment right out the gate. Before we left she showed off on the pallet jack, driving in a fast figure eight before turning it to land next to the charging station. I could feel her getting tired and called her lesson portion of the day over, but she still said she would try to come back with me again if the Alpha stuck me on delivery detail.
Unfortunately, with how well that whole task had gone I was sure he would and was already planning on how I would get out of it.
“Thatwasvery impressive Angel,” I cooed, kissing her cheek feverishly.
She giggled and wiggled away. “I’ve had lots of different jobs, and I have a very good memory,” she giggled.
“Tired?” I asked and she nodded. “You want a piggy back or do you want me to carry you.
She giggled again. “Akindmate would ask you to carry her so you could hide that raging boner from seeing her be skilled at something,” she cooed in return.
I nuzzled my nose into her neck. “I can’t help it if my mate just makes everything look so fucking sexy.”
She stopped and waited for me to turn, jumping into my arms and wrapping her legs around me. “I could sleep until tomorrow,” she whispered, watching Sequoia walk behind us. “Come on Coy, I carry you all the time, it’s my turn to be carried.”
I chuckled and stopped again, spreading my legs further apart and crouching down. “Come on Sequoia, around her shoulders.”
The cat obliged, jumping up and finding her place. “Spoiled brat,” Evadiene teased.
I carried them back to our room and dropped Evadiene in the bed, and she giggle as she bounced. I pushed her into the middle and crawled in behind her despite her protests. She was sure I would be bored laying with her while she slept since I wasn’t tired, but I inhaled the scent of her hair.
“Every moment with you is a welcome gift, even the ones when you’re sleeping,” I smiled and nuzzled into her neck. “And maybe sometimesespeciallywhen you’re sleeping.”
“Hey!” She elbowed me but still warmed against my chest.
I felt a small amount of apprehension from her but she fell asleep quickly. I messaged Ellion and told him what was happening. He knew from the beginning with Daley how important this time for us was and would cover on anything happening around the house. The minute I rest my phone down on the bed in front of Evadiene, she grabbed my arm and clutched my hand close to her chest and hummed a sound of comfort and safety.
Despite not being tired, being beside her had my entire body relaxing, and in the middle of the day, pressed against my mate, I fell asleep.
