Chapter 687 Time Ticked Away
Everyone laughed at Fannie, eyeing her menacingly as if she just uttered the biggest joke.
"How would I know? Humph! Why are you asking me?" Fannie still held on and refused to admit that she had done something wrong.
The police weren't interested to answer those questions either.
Meanwhile, both Charles and Nancy knew nothing about this. The two were still in a state of cold war, giving each other the silent treatment.
The next morning, Nancy had breakfast just like the usual and headed straight to work.
Charles still sent the children to the kindergarten before going to the office.
Although they were still in a fight, both tried to be civil and casual in front of the children. But once they were left alone, a dead silence fell on them, with neither wanting to talk first.
"Oh, Brandy is still in the hospital. So, our plan failed?" Nadia asked disappointedly.
"At least we warned Brandy. She'd better keep a distance from Daddy while we're here," uttered Bobby, furrowing his brows tightly.
"What do you think?" Nadia thought for a while and asked, "Does Daddy really like Brandy?" "It's hard to say. So, we have to be vigilant and never allow any woman to take him away!" Bobby answered firmly, tightening his knuckles.
"I agree, but what should we do? We already made Mommy and Daddy mad when we sneaked out of the kindergarten yesterday. We can't run out again, or else Daddy will get mad even more." Nadia shook her head and pressed her palm on her chin, trying to think of a solution.
"Well, I won't run away. But we can't just sit here and let other women get close to Daddy! Come on, Nadia. You' re my little sister! How could you be so calm?" With a gloomy expression, Bobby eyed his sister intently.
"I don't know what to do too!" Nadia replied, now slightly frustrated too.
Speechless, Bobby's face turned even more gloomy. "Well, Nadia, you are not just stupid, but very very stupid!
"Let's go. What are you two whispering about?" Charles' cold voice disturbed the two with their intense glaring showdown.
They both stuck out their tongues in irritation before hurrying to catch up to their father.
Meanwhile, Nancy arrived at the hospital. As soon as she was done with her initial rounds on the wards, she saw Jill running towards her way.
'What is she doing here?'
she thought and prepared to turn around, but Jill had already caught sight of her.
"Nancy, my good daughter..." her stepmother said breathlessly.
'Good daughter? How dare her to call me that?' Nancy thought, feeling sick in her stomach.
"What do you want? I'm working," she uttered indifferently, not even bothering to look at her.
"I know. But something happened to Fannie, and she was taken away by the police. Please help her! No matter what conflicts you had in the past, she is still your sister and your family. You can't just stand by and do nothing!" The way Jill held her trembling hands together and begged showcased how anxious she was.
Last night, Jill sulked and sat still, thinking about her ten million. She didn't dare to tell Clark as it was such an embarrassment on her part.
Then, time went by while she waited for Fannie. However, hours passed and her daughter still hadn't come back from the dinner party. Exhausted, Jill eventually fell asleep.
But this morning, when she woke up, she received a call from the police, informing her that Fannie was taken into custody.
Utterly frightened, Jill lost all her strength and almost fell on the ground. "What did she do?"
She initially thought that her daughter robbed someone.
"Well, we don't know yet. Let's talk about it later when you get here." The policeman hung up the phone, leaving Jill so scared that she burst into tears.
After thinking for a while, she finally realized that no one could help her except Nancy. So, she hurriedly took a taxi to the hospital, not minding how she unruly she looked early in the morning.
"No matter what, you must help me. Please go to the police station to check what Fannie committed. She is your sister, after all. You should help her!" Jill kept begging, crossing her fingers as she was desperately hopeful at that moment.
"Well, you can go back first. I will go and see her after work this afternoon," said Nancy with a cold face.
She noticed that many doctors and nurses had flocked around them, watching her and Jill in the hallway. And at the sight of this, Nancy felt a surge of embarrassment flow within her.
The Ning family never failed to do something that would make her lose her face in front of the public.
"Okay, okay. I'll go now, but you have to hurry up. Your father is waiting for me at home. He is more anxious than me. If it weren't for his injured legs, he would be the one begging you right now." After saying that, Jill left without looking back.
At the same time, Nancy walked to her office wearing a straight face.
She didn't want to meddle in the affairs of the Ning family, but her guilt was eating her up.
Jill was right. Fannie was her sister. Whether Nancy liked it or not, it was the truth, and there was nothing she could do about it.
And because Nancy had an operation this morning, she tried her best not to think about those messes. She had to focus and set her mind at rest.
Aside from that trouble with Fannie, she still had that problem with Brandy. On top of that, she and Charles were still in a fight. Everything was just too stressful right now for her!
After the successful operation, the news about Fannie had seemingly spread like wildfire.
The moment Nancy walked out of the operating room and passed by the nursing station, she heard the nurses whispering, "Ah, Fannie is the younger sister of Director Nancy. This woman is so shameless that she drugged Joseph. I think she's crazy about money; otherwise, she wouldn't have done such a terrible thing.
"Such a pity. Why does Director Nancy have such a shameless sister?"
"Oh, haven't you heard that? Last night, Joseph fainted and was sent to our hospital. And until now, he is still on infusion. It seems that Fannie has used a lot of drug this time. Ha-ha! If he overdoses, he will die."
"What drug?" Nancy was devoted to work and paid attention to workplace gossips. But now that it concerned Joseph and Fannie, she just couldn't remain indifferent.
"Oh, Director Nancy, everything's on the Internet. You can have a look," one of the nurses said shyly.
"Director Nancy, Joseph is in the internal medicine department downstairs. You can go and have a look. He knows more than us."
"Okay." Nancy took off her scrubs and changed into the white gown before heading downstairs to Joseph's ward, who spent the entire night in torment.
When he arrived at the hospital, the drug effect was still very much alive. Immediately, he was given an intravenous drip and was advised to drink more water. And the moment he woke up, his eyes were red like the wolves'.
Afraid that Joseph would go berserk, the doctor tied him to the bed.
And because the drugs and medicine took a toll on him, his body was sweating wildly all over, causing him to toss and turn all night.
As a result, he was exhausted this morning and had just fallen asleep.
When Nancy stepped into his ward, she saw him on the bed with his eyes closed.
"Joseph, are you asleep?" she asked softly.
Joseph wanted to sleep, but his mind was bugged with so many imageries. And although he was utterly beaten down, his thoughts still ran wild.
"Nancy, what are you doing here?" he asked weakly after opening his eyes lazily.
Looking at him right now, Nancy finally believed that her sister could do such inhumane thing.
"Yes, Fannie drugged me and almost killed me. Fortunately, I called the police. I had a narrow escape from death, and now I just came back to life!" Joseph grinned wickedly, knowing what Nancy was probably thinking at that moment.
