Sweet Subterfuge

Chapter 616

Kevan didn’t spend much time at the hospital, Besides meeting Larissa, he had an important task to accomplish during his visit
to Aldovia -to exchange information and strategize with Gary.
When Gary’s meeting ended, Lewis drove Kevan to Blue Star Shipping’s headquarters which was located in the heart of
Westonia. Westonia was one of the most developed cities in Aldovia, and many internationally renowned companies had their
headquarters established here.
As they drove away from the hospital, they were surrounded by lowering buildings, which lined up on both sides of the road,
blocking the blue sky. Even the sunlight couldn’t reach the pedestrians directly.
“The pace of life here is too fast. I’m not a fan,” Lewis chatted with Kevan while driving. Over the past few months, they had
maintained constant communication, and their relationship had grown closer than before.
Kevan looked out the window, observing the hurried white–collar workers holding their coffee cups, and didn’t find this scene
unfamiliar. Hence, he replied, “Well, you’ll see a similarly fast pace at CBD in Bartham too.”
“Things are better back home.” Lewis sighed and continued. “Racial discrimination is quite an issue here. Just look at Gary; he
holds a high position. And yet, occasionally, he still faces condescension and sabotage from those locals.”
Kevan had always focused on his career back home. Although Microworks Corporallon collaborated with some foreign
companies, its standing in the high–tech industry had never been underestimated, so he couldn’t fully relate to Gary’s
experience.
“When Gary and Lari first acknowledged each other, he thought about gradually moving the company’s operations back home to
be with her. But later, he realized that there are too many safety concems there. So, now he’s going through the immigration
process for her, so she can stay in Aldovia permanently.” Lewis glanced at Kevan through the rearview mirror and said
meaningfully, “Your path ahead is filled with challenges. Be prepared for a long battle.”
From the moment he found out that Gary was Larissa’s biological father, Kevan anticipated the multitude of difficulties that would
come his way.
“I’m addressing those safety concems one by one. I just need one more month.” Kevan replied. The Seymour family had fallen,
his two uncles were entangled in legal troubles, and their only patron, Cody, was about to be unable to protect them anymore.
Just one more month and no one would be able to threaten Larissa’s safety ever again.

“The things you’re telling me won’t change anything. Save them for when you talk to Gary later. Although Lewis didn’t explicitly
state his stance, he’d already sided with Kevan in his heart. Unlike Gary, Lewis was not the jealous type. He could see how good
Kevan was to
Larissa, and he hoped that Larissa would find a good partner
Kevan pursed his lips, feeling nervous at the thought of meeting Gary soon. He tightened his grip on his hands, and his palms
even started to sweat.
Blue Star Shipping occupied the top two floors of the Blue Star Tower, while the other sevenly floors were leased to other
companies.
Kevan had seen pictures of this towering building from a private delective before, but when he saw it in person, it felt even more
grand and impressive.
Lewis took him directly to the top floor, where Gary was wailing in his office, Gary’s office wasn’t as spacious as Kevan’s, but it
boasted a floor–to–ceiling window that let in the bright sunlight. Even in the harsh winter, it brought in some warmth.
Gary still didn’t have a good attitude when taking to Kevan “Have a seal” Gary ordered, as he remained seated in his chair,
without bothering to stand up as a symbol of welcome.
However, Kevan didn’t mind, he had already grown accustomed to Gary’s behavior.
