Sweet Subterfuge

Kevan ignored her words, feeling for his phone to text Dylan via WhatsApp. “Give me a call in ten minutes.”
He only came for his parents sake. Now that a.. social lormalities had been taken care of, it was time to “retreat.” He did think of
accompanying his parents until the end of the event, but it was annoying to be in the company of Uncle Bernard’s family, and he
could not stand their drivel
Seeing that Kevan disregarded her completely, Maria had trouble keeping the smile on her face. “Kevan, boy, it’s not that I’m
criticizing you or whatever.” The reproach in her voice grew stronger. “Earning money may be important, but you should be
supporting your parents well too! When your parents are gone a few years later, who are you going to spend all that money on?”
*Don’t worry, Aunt Maria. Kevan put his phone down and smiled faintly. “The money I give my parents every year is more than
what your sons are able to eam combined. Besides, I have a daughter to raise too, so I must work hard to earn more.”
Maria’s face had originally darkened when she heard the first half of his words. After hearing the rest, she could not stop herself
from smiling even as her gaze was filled with smugness as well as scom. “Well, that’s true too.” She went along with his train of
thought. “Girls must be nurtured well. You only have one daughter, Bethany, so you must prepare and educate her so that she
can succeed you.”
Kevan just grunted in response.
“However-“Maria suddenly frowned and changed the subject. “Why didn’t you bring Beth along today? I haven’t seen her in a
while, and I miss her.”
Kevan let out a hirt of panic at the appropriate time, while poorly attempting to maintain his composure as he said. “She went to
classmate’s home to play.” His expression and tone of voice were very much unnatural.
Cody knew about Bethany’s kidnapping, and he was constantly paying attention to the progression of the kidnapping case. But
because all his information came from Ruby, he did not know who the culprit behind Bethany’s kidnapping was. He could only
send people to keep an eye on Anthony and Violet to see if Bethany had been salely rescued. But Bethany did not appear up till
now, so he could not help but be agitated.
Cody had known from the start that Bethany was his daughter. Ruby’s pregnancy was something he planned too. His original
scheme had been this: Kevan would get murdered on his and Lana’s wedding, and Ruby’s child would become the only kid from
his line, who would naturally inherit Microworks. By then, she could give Microworks to him.

However, man proposed, and Go d disposed. Alter being in a coma for six years, Kevan woke up miraculously. Thank goodness
he had lost his memories, so he did not remember his past with Ruby. As a result, he did not know that Bethany was not really
his daughter.
Cody’s plan was able to continue, but his acquisition of Microworks would have to be delayed by a few more years. He could
wait though.
Since he was able to plot against Kevan once, he could do it again. And for the second time, he would not allow any accidents to
happen.
However, Bethany was crucial to this whole plan. There would be no Microworks without her.
“Really?” Cody asked. “Kevan, I did hear some things.” He paused before adding, “About Beth,”
Kevan’s panic was more obvious. “What is it?” He asked “quilly,” refusing to meet Cody’s gaze.
Anthony and Violet were well aware of the situation as their faces had become a little solemn. The other Rogers also leaned in
curiously. afraid that they might miss a word.
“Beth has been kidnapped, hasn’t she?” Cody’s gaze was sharp, looking as if he could see through Kevan.
When the others heard that, they gasped in shock
“Beth has been kidnapped? When did this happen?” “Goodness gracious! How could this happen to us?”
