Chapter 14
Larissa went downstairs with Kevan. He said he had left something behind at the hotel and wanted to get it back.
His legs were much longer than Larissa's, and she had to jog to keep up with him. Even then, she barely could-due to how fast he was.
Although she wore flats, her feet were starting to hurt from having walked around for the whole day. Her leg muscles were getting taut too. Her calf suddenly spasmed, and Larissa hissed, leaning down to put pressure on that spot.
Hearing that the footsteps behind him had stopped, Kevan's eyes narrowed. He turned and saw that Larissa was quite a distance away, her body twisted into an odd posture.
He quickly made his way over to her and asked, "What's wrong?"
Although Larissa had embarrassed herself several times before him, she still could not help blushing at her latest blunder.
"My..." She hid her face in the shadows by looking down, keeping her voice as small as possible. "...Leg cramped."
Kevan heard her just fine. He knelt down and gripped her calf. "This one?"
His tone was normal, as were his actions as he massaged her calf, but Larissa still felt a hint of suggestiveness in the air. Tensing, she tried to move her leg away from his hand, but he pulled it back the moment she did.
"Don't move." Kevan looked at her reproachfully.
Licking her lips, Larissa forced a smile onto her face. "It'll be okay in a while. You don't have to massage it."
Kevan simply ignored her, using one hand to keep her leg still while the other continued to massage the spot that was cramping.
The street lamps had lit up a while ago. The dull yellow glow enveloped him, which made Larissa realize how gentle he looked at that moment.
Shaking her head, Larissa tossed out this strange idea from her mind.
Kevan Rogers? Gentle?
That was impossible.
"Larissa! I thought I was mistaken; it really is you!" A woman's delighted voice sounded from a distance. Larissa turned to where the voice came from and saw two people walking over on the sidewalk, hand in hand.
One look was enough for her to tell that it was Travis and Amber!
Holding onto Travis' arm, Amber was smiling happily. Travis, however, looked pissed. His stare bore into Larissa, and there was rage boiling in his eyes.
Seeing them, Larissa instinctively wanted to turn away, but she soon realized that her calf was still in Kevan's grip. Pushing on his shoulder, she muttered, "I'm better now."
Kevan said nothing and let go, rising from his previous position.
In just two minutes' time, Travis and Amber had gotten closer.
"What are you doing here, Larissa?" Amber acted as if they were close friends, which only made Larissa feel disgusted and nauseous.
"None of your business," she said coldly and reached behind her with her right hand to take Kevan's. "Let's go."
Once the surprise wore off from feeling her hand in his, Kevan's lips quirked just a little.
"Hold up."
Larissa failed to leave as Travis had blocked them. Glaring at Kevan, he snarled at Larissa. "Who is this?"
One would think that he was catching his wife having an affair.
Well... It was not exactly untrue.
Larissa's answer remained the same. "None of your business." Shoving away the arm Travis had held out in front of her, Larissa's grip on Kevan's hand tightened a little. Her words enraged Travis, however.
"How is it not any of my business?" he roared as he shoved Amber aside. He used his body to cut off their path once more. "We're not divorced yet, Seymour! I'm still your husband!" His eyes were red, and his anger seemed genuine.
Larissa thought that he was acting at first. She figured that he was using this opportunity to slander her again and gain something from it. But now it seemed...
"Of course, I didn't forget." She smiled in amusement. "But...have you forgotten that you have a pregnant mistress next to you?"
Stunned, a hint of panic flashed across Travis' face.
Amber did not disappoint. Just as Larissa expected, she blew up.
"What the fuck are you doing, Travis Hardy? Do you want to get back together with this old bitch?"
She shoved and beat him while yelling obscenities as tears ran down her face.
"Where's your conscience? I suffered so much in order to carry your child, but you still miss this old bitch! If you don't want to marry me or want this child, just say so. I will abort it immediately!"
Travis immediately backtracked. Considering her pregnant state, he let Amber beat him and dared not fight back. He did not even dare to say anything harsh. He just kept soothing her and apologizing to her. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry! How could I not want to marry you or want your child? You two are my most precious darlings! Don't be angry, please. I won't get back together with Larissa. Once she signs the divorce papers, I will have the divorce finalized at the City Hall with her!"
Travis did not restrain himself for Larissa's sake.
Larissa thought that her heart was already numb to everything about Travis, so she could not believe that it would ache right now.
Kevan, who had been observing the changes in her expression, took two steps forward and held her hand. "Let's go."
"Oh." Larissa stopped looking at the couple. She said, "Let's go, then." with her head down.
"Larissa!" Travis shouted.
She ignored him and kept walking.
"You'd better hurry and sign the divorce agreement!" Travis kept yelling. "You're not just delaying Amber and me by dragging things out, you know. I bet that your pretty boy can't wait either!"
He bit out the words "pretty boy" rather hard, and the mockery in his tone was thick.
Larissa did not care if he targeted her. That was just background noise to her. But insulting Kevan...
If Kevan got angry, and she got implicated, then it was over.
So, she stopped and said, "I'm warning you." Her gaze was frigid. "Watch your mouth."
Travis did not expect her reaction to be like this. Shocked as well as embarrassed, he snapped. "What? I've hit a sore spot by calling him a pretty boy? So, he really IS your pretty boy, eh?" He eyed Kevan with scorn. "A grown man like him still needs to be dependent on a woman, isn't he ashamed of himself?"
Larissa was shaking from her anger at Travis' brazenness. She was just about to retort when a shadow fell in front of her-Kevan had stepped between her and Travis.
"Why should I be ashamed?" Kevan was not angry. In fact, he was actually smiling with pride. "Not everyone can be a qualified pretty boy anyway."
