Chapter Epilogue.
Rounds of applause echoed in the hall as Francesca gave a bow, her cheeks flushed from excitement. She had been ecstatic when she was given the opportunity to read the history of Et cor caritate day. She had not even officially joined the school yet she was speaking in front of the entire student body as well as the guests present.
" You made it." Rose said softly. She hugged Cole, pulled back and squeezed his hands.
" Of course I did. I wouldn't miss this for the world."
" We're glad you're here." Bryan stated giving him a pat on his shoulder.
" The school has changed so much, I haven't been here in years!"
The three stood in silence as the celebration raged around them.
" I wish she was here." Rose said softly.
" This day is about her."
" I wish she was here too."
The were squeals of shock and disbelief around causing Bryan to chuckle.
" Looks like our prayer has been answered."
Cole could not prevent the large grin that formed on his face. His wolf was incredibly happy with his mate being near. She changed out of her mission suit as she approached them and ran a hand through her hair.
" You made it." He breathed out.
" I did. The meeting with Hades was shorter than I expected." She replied smiling. She had been incredibly busy juggling her duties as a Luna and her duties as the Elysian.
He pulled her closer and kissed her nuzzling his face into her neck. He let out a whimper causing her to laugh and ruffle his hair.
" Enough with the PDA, there a lot of people that want to meet you." Rose stated. Iris rolled her eyes and pulled away from Cole.
" Chill, I just got here. I like what you've done with the place by the way."
" Thank you." Bryan chirped pulling Rose into his arms. The two had taken over Crest Hill after Travis and Emily retired.
" Iris?" A voice called.
She turned back and standing behind her was Sebastian alongside his sister, Shirley.
" Hey guys!"
" Hey Iris." Shirley greeted hugging her.
" Loved the grand entrance by the way."
" I try."
" Seb!"
Seb bowed earning a glare from Iris.
" You're a piece of work." She muttered and he grinned.
" I thought you weren't coming."
" I thought so too but here I am!"
" We, the magicians have a very special gift for you-"
" Please no. I don't want anything. You should know this by now!"
" They won't listen."
" Look, I don't need them apologising for anything, okay?"
" Yes ma'am."
Iris looked around with a satisfied smile on her face. Seeing the members of her fraction interacting together without any discrimination gave joy. It proved to her that she had made the right decision all those years ago.
* Flashback*
Iris wasn't sure of where she was exactly. But the one thing she did know was that she had ended the war. She just hoped that Rose could unite everyone in her absence.
She thought about Cole, the pain on his face as she took her last breath; her heart clenched. She loved him and it wasn't only the mate bond. She thought about how he would take her death. Cole was strong, but he was a werewolf and she had heard of how painful a mate's death could be. She wasn't a wolf but so she could only imagine the pain he would be in.
" You're up."
" Who are you? Where am I?"
The voice materialised into a tall man. He had dark hair and a handsome face. He looked young but the aura he exuded showed that he was anything but young.
" You are in the underworld. And as for your first question, I go by a different names but I personally prefer Hades."
' Hades, god of death.' She thought.
The realisation finally hit her that she wasn't dreaming, she was really dead.
" Oh." She replied softly.
" Iris Gonzalez, I admire you. Not a lot of leaders are willing to sacrifice themselves for their people. I know for one that my idiot brother would never do that if he was in the position to. I mean you did cost me a lot of souls but I'll live."
" So, uhm-sir I-"
" Oh please, call me Hades."
" But aren't you a god or something?"
" I am but we belong to different fractions Iris. As far as ranks are concerned, we're equal. Have a seat."
She sat on the chair opposite him and she gulped.
" But I'm dead. You-you guys can't die. Why-why am I here?"
" I swear on the river Styx that I don't know. The fates decide everything. But what I do know is that you're immortal."
" Immortal?"
" Yeah, you can't die."
" But I'm here."
" Being in the underworld doesn't necessarily mean you're dead kid."
" So I-…I can go back?"
" When the time is right, yes."
Iris bit her lip at the revelation. She was overwhelmed with the information Hades was feeding her.
" Pomegranate?" He offered but she shook her head.
" Ahhh" He drawled.
" Smart girl."
" So I get to go back?, And when I do, I become immortal?"
" I guess." He shrugged.
" But you've always been immortal."
He propped his feet on the table.
" But I don't want to be immortal." She said softly.
" Why not? Immortality is fun. You get to live through different generations, experience different trends- I for one am loving these jeans. They're much more comfortable than those itchy togas."
" I get to be immortal but the people I love don't. I'm going to have to watch them die while I live."
He raised an eyebrow.
" You're a weird kid." He stated and it was her turn to shrug.
" I guess I'll see what I can do 'bout the whole immortality stuff. In the meantime, chess?"
" Why not?"
***
" I can't believe you're leaving me!" Hades sniffled.
" I have to go Hades."
" B-b-but who's gonna play with me? I'm going to be so lonely again."
" I'll come visit you as often as I can."
" Promise?"
" I swear on the river Styx."
He smiled.
Cerberus ran up to her and nuzzled her heads against her legs.
" Hey sweetie." I cooed rubbing her body.
" I have to go now but I'll be back, okay?"
She whimpered and I chuckled.
Hades held my hand and looked me right in the eyes.
" You're a great leader kid, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. There's always going to be a place in Elysium for you."
" Thanks Hades. And just for the record, I think you're wonderful. You're not as bad as people make you out to be."
He started tearing up.
" Hades, are you crying?"
" Yes! Now go before it gets ugly."
* Flashback over*
She was brought back to reality by a nudge from Cole. She looked down at the 10 year old girl glaring at her.
" I know!, I know. I missed your speech and I'm sorry."
" I don't care about that." Francesca said hugging her.
" I'm just glad you're here."
Iris smiled and hugged her back.
" I love you mum."
" I love you too kid. Now run along, we adults wanna have fun."
Francesca giggled before running off to play with her friends. The girl had her father's icy blue eyes but her mother's blonde hair. Personality wise, she was a perfect blend of them both. She had her father's determination and calmness but her mother's wit and mischievous nature.
Cole squeezed his mate's hand lightly as they both stared at their pup.
" I hope she's more like her father." Rose mused causing Iris to glare.
" She'd be so much cooler if she was like her mother." Bryan countered causing Iris to smile victoriously.
She was about to speak when she saw Rebecca, the Oracle.
" What is she doing here?!" She screeched glaring daggers at her. As if sensing the stares, Rebecca turned and walked towards them.
" What do you want Rebecca?"
" Is that how you say hello to your guests?"
" I'm sorry about my manners, it's just that nothing good ever happens when you're around."
Rebecca chuckled.
" Shoot the message Gonzalez, not the messenger."
" It's Hernandez."
" Anyways, I'm not here for you."
" Then who are you here for?"
Rebecca looked around then smirked when she found who she had been looking for.
They followed her line of sight to the small group of children that were playing in which Francesca was among.
" No." Iris breathed.
