Chapter 420 Asked For Leave
Rachel was busy drinking lemon water. She almost choked when she witnessed Marlon's awkward flirting.
She witnessed Daniel's flirting before. Daniel was a player and a professional womanizer, but she had never seen him as shameless as Marlon was now.
"I'd like to remind you that your girlfriend is right here..." The blue swimsuit beauty glanced over at Marlon. With a smile, she said in a calm voice.
Before Marlon could open his mouth, Rachel immediately responded. "I'm definitely not his girlfriend! He is my customer. We're in H City for business."
Hearing Rachel's response, Marlon shrugged and asked, "May I have your phone number then, please? I don't have any acquaintances in H City. How about you take me around and show me the night view of this spectacular city tonight?"
The blue swimsuit beauty looked at Marlon up and down. He was rather handsome and dressed smartly. She didn't hesitate and took a napkin to write down her phone number on it.
"You really jumped the gun. There are so many pretty women here. Look at this one and that one. Why were you in such a hurry to choose one?" After the beautiful girl in the blue swimsuit left, Rachel said to Marlon with a laugh as she pointed to other women who were passing by.
"Do you believe in destiny? You see, Rachel, there are so many waitresses here. However, they sent her to wait on our table. It's because of destiny. She was brought to me specifically, to meet me." Marlon said. He had his own reason.
Rachel glanced over at Carl who was sitting in the back in silence and said, "Carl, why don't you ask Marlon to set up a date for you?"
Carl was old enough to have a girlfriend, yet he didn't have one. Chad was already married.
Carl immediately waved his hand and replied, "Oh, please don't! Besides, I don't like the women here!"
Hearing his reply, Rachel smiled. She thought that it would be necessary to discuss with Hiram to find a woman for Carl who was too passive to do it himself. Otherwise, he would probably become a bachelor and live alone for the rest of his life. They finished their lunch. Rachel noticed that Marlon didn't focus on what they were eating. He was too busy looking at beautiful women instead.
"Was the lunch good?" Rachel asked intentionally.
"Yes. It was delicious!" As usual, Marlon uttered without thinking.
When they left, Rachel suddenly wondered what would have happened if Hiram had come to have lunch here? Would he have asked some beautiful woman out?
It was definitely the perfect place to test a man in that regard.
In the car, Marlon started saving the numbers he had collected, on his phone. Although he already explained his understanding of destiny, he had asked for at least three women's numbers.
He said that he had to be prepared against want.
After lunch, Rachel returned to Streams Company with Marlon.
Hiram had sent someone specially to negotiate with Marlon so that Rachel could take a break.
Considering today's particular situation, Hiram allowed Rachel total freedom, which meant that she neither had to stay alone with him nor report to him about where she went.
Rachel seized the opportunity. After she sent Marlon to Streams Company, she went out.
Where would she be going to?
She would definitely go to the RaR Company.
Rachel disappeared for many days. Although she had Celine to complete the routine management on behalf of her, she was still the boss of the company. No matter what, she should return to her company, even if it would be just for an inspection. "Oh, my goodness! It's you! You're finally back! I can't believe it!"
When Celine saw Rachel, she was shocked. So much so that the documents in her hand fell onto the floor. Celine leaned forward and hugged Rachel. "When did you return? Why didn't you tell me that you were coming back?"
Rachel stared at Celine, who was very excited to see her and pulled her hand. Celine was dragged into the office by Rachel. "I'm sorry, Celine. I should have informed you when I left. I'm really sorry for making you worry about me. Thanks for looking after the company for me..."
She didn't inform Celine that she had left. In fact, she didn't tell Fannie either.
She didn't know how to explain her disappearance to Fannie.
"Save those tears, please. It's okay. As long as you are safe. You didn't know that when you left, your husband came to ask me where you were. I was so freaked out. I thought you had been kidnapped again!"
Celine said. She didn't believe that Rachel would actually run away. She thought that Zachary had come back to take his revenge and kidnap Rachel again.
Just as she imagined it, she knocked the wooden table with her hand. How could she curse Rachel for such a thing?
Rachel then laughed out loud and said, "Don't worry. I know you were worried about me. You know that I had to leave, right? I hope that things will be better now that I'm back."
It was a deadlock. She didn't know how to face it, so she chose to leave.
Celine figured out that Lydia's jumping off the stairs must have had a tremendous effect on Hiram's parents, and that they must have blamed Rachel for it.
Rachel never made decisions based on impulse. She left because she didn't have a choice.
"How's the company been these last few days, since I left? Is everything alright and running smoothly?" Rachel asked.
Celine threw up her hands and said, "The company is running at the same pace as usual. With Hiram's support, everything has been alright!"
Rachel knew that Celine was telling her the truth. Even though RaR was not a branch of Streams Company, Hiram was still looking after it for her secretly.
"Rach, how about we hang out tonight? We haven't spent quality time together for a very long time." Celine suggested. She wanted to talk to Rachel about everything that had happened. She wanted to pour her heart out to Rachel. Rachel hesitated for a while and said, "Okay, but I need to ask for leave first."
"Ask for leave? What do you mean? Whose permission do you have to ask for?" Celine asked with a puzzled look on her face.
Rachel pointed to the profile photo on her phone. Celine then understood the whole thing and giggled. "Well, I got it. 'A burnt child dreads the fire.' Hiram made a restriction for you because he was afraid you would leave again. Am I right?" "Probably. I agreed and made a promise to him." As Rachel replied, she dialed Hiram's number.
Within two seconds, Rachel was put through.
"Honey, may I ask for leave and go out tonight? I want to hang out with Celine, since I haven't seen her in a while." Rachel tried her best to sound as gentle as possible. Hiram remained silent for a while.
"Okay, but be home before nine." Hiram replied in a low voice.
"Sure. I'll be back then." Once she had Hiram's consent, Rachel became very excited.
She then turned around to high-five Celine.
Since Marlon had a date tonight, he wouldn't need Rachel as his accompany. Rachel would just see him off when he left.
As soon as it was evening, Rachel suggested that she and Celine should go out for dinner. However, after dinner, Celine asked her to go for a drink at a bar.
Celine was tipsy and quite emotional.
"Rachel... Philip wants to break up with me. He said that he wanted to break up with me!"
Rachel then understood why Celine drank so much. She wanted to drown her sorrows in wine, with the hope that she'd forget about how he had made her feel. "What happened? You've been getting along with each other so well, haven't you? You even discussed about the marriage. Why does he want to break up with you?" Rachel asked in a shocked and surprised tone.
"... He agreed on meeting my parents, but then he regretted it, as he learned that I was married once before. He doesn't like that. He doesn't want returned goods!" As Celine said that, she poured herself another cup of beer and drank it quickly.
"Rach, why can't I just be happy? Why is it so hard for me? I wanted to find somebody wealthy, but I have come to learn that no rich man would ever settle for me now. Well, I guess that I'll just have to find someone ordinary. As long as we get along with each other, I can settle for average. However, now he wants to break up with me! Why? Why is this so difficult?"
Celine said, as her head leaned against the table. She sounded bitter.
She was married once. However, her previous marriage only lasted for six months. She married based on an impulse. Once they realized that they couldn't get along with each other, they got divorced immediately.
"How about you talk to him again? Philip is a good man. I don't think he is unreasonable." Rachel suggested with knitted eyebrows. They were now living in the modern world and people didn't care about marrying either a divorced man or woman. People would be happy to get married, as long as they were attracted to one another.
"Rach, you haven't realized that men and women are different yet. Women don't mind marrying divorced men, but men on the other hand... They do." Celine forced a slight smile. She then poured herself another cup of beer.
Rachel let out a slight sigh. She took a look around. All of sudden, her gaze froze on a man and a woman who were sitting in the corner of the room.
She suddenly stood up and blocked Celine's sight, as she was about to look in the direction that Rachel stared at.
"Okay, just let it go. If he wanted to break up with you, then just accept it. Celine, you know you deserve a better man, right?"
Rachel regretted her suggestion for Celine to have another talk with Philip, who was now already dating another woman, and to make it worse, in this bar too!
Somehow, Celine had seen them. She didn't feel good after what she had seen. She then pulled Rachel off to another corner. Once she laid eyes on the man she was too familiar with, she immediately stood up.
She took the beer bottle on the table, and without giving it a second thought, walked towards the man and the woman. 0000☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
