Chapter 4: The heart of Shawn
Shawn stared at himself through the mirror, running his index finger on his face, he was lost for words to say since he never expected to get married after coming down here, to this town. Though he had used the identity of the actual Shawn Cooper, he did not think it would lead him down to the path of marriage.
That was something that he did not see coming and now that he was finally married to Hannah, a beautiful woman who could make heads turn when she walked past.-
When he took on that identity, he never expected that his little wife, Hannah Lockwood would be having such a hard time, and life would be very unfair to her.
Shawn ran his hand through his messy hair. "She was a replacement bride" he shook his head, and a lot of emotions ran through his eyes.
"It must have been so hard for her" Shawn was not happy that despite being a replacement bride, her wedding gown had to be rented.
Other girls would have had their wedding gown bought from the best store in the town but Hannah could only hire. Lowering the mirror down, he walked away, She struggled with so much and he saw that. He hated that she was struggling with so much on her own.
"Hannah, how can you deal with so much on your own?" He could only imagine what it is like to be dealing with a lot on your own.
When the memories of their time together during breakfast flashed through his mind, it pushed a smile on his face, She was a good cook, he needed to admit that.
Though he never intended to admit that to her at all. She would be better off if he didn't admit anything to her.
As he saw her struggle with so much on her own, Shawn couldn't help but feel his heart squeeze over the fact that she was just burdened with so much struggles. In his heart was a twinge of sympathy for that woman whom he had married.
Though Shawn knows nothing about Hannah's true identity and doesn't want to get inquisitive since he is fake as well.
Why are you a substitute? He wondered. While he chooses not to get inquisitive about her, he is also trying to hide the fact that he is an Alpha. As an Alpha, he already knows that he can not stay in a small town for long, he couldn't be living this sort of life for far too long. Someday, it will all come to an end and all of this will have to end.
Shawn just doesn't want to imagine the look on her face the day that she realizes that she is living with someone who is as fake as she was as well. There were bound to be stories but he was not about to reveal his identity, and neither was he going to ask about her own.
When she asked him that question during breakfast, he just couldn't bring himself to tell her anything about himself, That was the best thing and Shawn was glad that part of him was not revealed. "All of this will soon come to an end" His eyes filled with emotions. "I wonder how long it will last? A day, two or another decade or more" He smiled but the smile doesn't reach his eyes. Shawn wasn't really certain and couldn't really say when, but before that will happen, he was going to make sure that he stayed by her side and helped her out in the little way that he can. He had a feeling that somewhere down the line, she was going to need his help and he wanted to be right there without excuses.
When his heart jolted in his chest once again, he placed his hand on his chest.
"You are not allowed to feel this way, it is Forbidden for you"
"Do you know that you can look at any other person but not Hannah"
He knew he had to remind himself that this was not right.
When he came to the town of Wema, it was a small town and he pretty much liked it here since it was the only way out, at that time, he planned for every other thing but this wasn't part of the plan. He never thought he would start to feel
differently towards Hannah.
He ran his hand through his hair once again, something that had become a habit when he was restless, his heart was racing in a very strange manner.
That was weird since his heart had never jolted for anyone in a long time, for a while, he had totally forgotten how it felt for your heart to skip.
"This isn't right and you know that. She is also not for you at all" His lips firmed.
"Please don't ever feel this way because this is all wrong and besides this is Hannah we are talking about, she is off limits, you know that all of this will soon come to an end, so don't even think about
it" He reassured himself nodding his Head.
However, that wasn't easy as his mind kept drifting towards her not to mention that one breakfast they shared together this morning.
It wasn't just the food, it was everything, When he wasn't expecting breakfast, she made one for him as well.
"Hannah" He whispered. "You and I are different In a lot of ways and even if you don't know this yet, I know that, and will not let myself feel this way for you, even the little of it is wrong"
That was the truth, they were
different in a lot of ways and he was only here for one thing, and that's to recover. Once he recovered from his injuries, he was not going to spend another second here, it was goodbye between them because he was
going to leave to reclaim what had always been his and there would be
no one stopping him.
